I roll into the Niagara Airport area quite often on business, but I usually head out with colleagues or just hit up Wegmans for some stuff to bring back to my hotel room. Today I was on my own for a pretty long lunch break and had a hankering for Mexican Food. Hit up Yelp and decided to give El Cubilete a try. Couldn't be happier that I did! Lovely folks and the service was great. Most important, lunch was absolutely delicious. Got a combo with a chile relleno, chicken enchilada, and rice and beans. So good! Everything tasted fresh and homemade, including the delicious salsa that came with the chips. Most impressive was the chile relleno, one of my favorite things to eat, but awful when done badly. The poblano pepper was fresh and flavorful, the cheese filling perfectly proportioned, the batter coating just right, and most important, it didn't seem greasy or heavy. This is now my favorite Mexican hang out. Warm chips and salsa to start and the salsa is awesome. Grabbed a huge pitcher of dos Equis on tap and arrived with chilled mugs. The menu is extensive and makes for a hard decision. Must return for further new choices. I had the pork tamale with chicken tostado and beef taco. My girlfriend had the beef chimichanga which she thoroughly enjoyed and will have again. See pics for drooling effect and to further make your choices more difficult. Service was ok, food sucked, I ordered the steak Mexicano and for 20 bucks you think it would have been grilled. But instead it was microwaved. Was very hot on the outside but cold on the inside. Also the way it looked you just knew it was microwaved. I asked the waitress and she said it was grilled but she took it back and gave me a new one. Heard about this new, authentic restaurant in the area. Thought we'd check it out. When we arrived, parking lot was full. When we walked in, place was packed- they have indoor and outdoor seating. It's not as big in there as I'd imagined. We didn't have to wait very long to be seated which was nice, but we weren't asked if we wanted indoor or outdoor seating and it was a beautiful night out. Our waitress took our order, brought over chips and salsa right away (which was house made and delicious). Had to wait a while for our entrees, waitress apologized and at this point I was starving. Seemed like they did not have enough staff to run the place - maybe because it had just been opened , I don't know. But all the staff were running around, sweating. Hands down, the best Mexican food I've had in the Buffalo area! My daughter and I went for dinner...the waitress was so welcoming and helpful! She asked if we wanted recommendations and she told us about her own favorites. The salsa was so fresh and herby, served with warm, just fried chips. We ordered the chicken and chorizo burrito and the grand chimichanga in beef and let me say, she did not steer us wrong. The food was out hot, fast and so delicious! Couldn't stop eating but I wanted to try dessert so I brought home half for lunch the next day. Really hard to stop! We had the fried ice cream and fried cheesecake and shared. The cheesecake was wrapped in a tortilla covered in sugar and cinnamon and dressed with whipped cream and a cherry. Melty, gooey ecstasy... My daughter's ice cream was huge and beautiful. The ice cream was cold inside and the outside, warm, crunchy with honey and chocolate sauce. She shared but as much as we tried, it was overwhelming! She was a happy girl... We waddled out, fat and smiling. The waitresses and bartender thanked us, waved and asked us to come again. The place was filling up with tons of people and I was not surprised. It was a great evening and we agreed that this is our Mexican place now. We had to drive a half hour but it was so worth it. I can't wait to bring everybody here! We will be back! The most common way of proving constructive critism is to sandwhich the negative between two positives, which I shall attempt here. In terms of the food from prior dine in experiences, I liked the salsa, as it had a decent flavor and a decent spice level without being too hot for my Mom, who has a sensitive palate. Chips are standard fare. The prior entrees I have ordered here, including the La Bandera Enchiladas, The Burrito Elena, and The Super Chimichanga Negra have all been very good. Overall would rate the food a solid 4 to 4 and a half stars. The reason why I need to deduct stars however, relates specifically to the shockingly lack of proper service from my last visit on leap day 2020. The restaurant was definitely busy at the time my Mom and I arrived, yet we were seated pleasantly by the host at what was then the last open table, and were promptly given chips and salsa. We ate those, but in the remaining 20 to 25 minutes we remained at our table, we were not acknowledged in any way what so ever, while at least 5-10 other patrons had either been given drinks and/or placed food orders. We finished our chips and salsa and waited as patiwntly as we could to have a server come over to take our drink and food order. The final straw that made us leave was when a new party was seated after things had slowed down, and was immediately seen by a server who was taking a drink order directly behind us. This behavior and lack of attentiveness from the staff is unacceptable, and as a result we shall never step foot in the establishment again. To briefly finish my review, I would like to reiterate that the food here is quite good, and probably the best Mexican food available in Niagara Falls, with it being a slight step up from La Galera in my opinion. This quality prevents me from giving 1 star. My hopes from this review is for your future customers to not have to go through the shameful treatment we received. read more

There wasn't anything particularly horrible about it, it just didn't taste like food I'd want to pay for at a (supposedly) good quality sit down Mexican restaurant. What was atrocious was the level of allergen contamination I received despite being promised that they would prepare my food in a separate and sanitary measure after informing them about my rice allergy and celiac disease. I ordered a Fajita plate that came with beef, chicken, and shrimp, and asked the waiter to make sure that it didn't have rice or flour tortillas on my plate, as I can not consume either, and cross contamination will make me very sick. Lo and behold when the plate arrives it has both on it, so I asked if they could make me a plate without either on it, and sent it back. It came back VERY QUICKLY, I'd say maybe 5-10 minutes after I sent it back, so I happily ate it. I will say that it tasted decent, but there was no seasoning on it, and the salsa at the table tasted like marinara sauce with a few hot pepper seeds in it (extremely mild, zero spice). After eating I began having a runny nose, which I attributed to some of the salsa that came with it, but after leaving the restaurant I started experiencing a skin rash and stomach cramps, which lasted until the next day. I suspect that my plate was not remade, and that they simply removed the rice and tortillas from my plate and brought it back to me. (For reference, I am not from Niagara, and came here last year in July.) read more

The service is nice but not fast, we where waiting for a while for our waiter to come back. But the food was lacking things. Example; the number 7 was missing the beans, the taco salad was very mushy and the meet was lacking seasoning, and the chicken salad and came with a few slices of tomato. Also the inside felt very inclosed while it still continues to have Christmas decorations up towards the end of January.They can not even give the right change back, but I'm not Complaining because I got more back. A little gem of a Tex-Mex restaurant in Niagara Falls. I am not crazy about Tex-Mex as I prefer super authentic Mexican and Californian styles, but this food is very authentic, looks and tastes homemade and the place is adorable. The menu is large lots of good options here. Step out of your comfort zone and try something that is not Plate Combo #. In fact, you should never order the "Gringo plates" anywhere unless you are a Mighty Taco aficionado. Try the tamales which are homemade. Meat was dry even burnt and for a 28 dollar entree had only 4 fajitas and the plates with the lettuce and guacamole looked like they threw the food on it. everyone's dishes looked very thrown together and blah. Taste was bland which is something you never should say about Mexican food. Strawberry margaritas were without alcohol that you could even taste. Do not eat here. My husband, former Marine, and Iraq War Veteran went for lunch with a coworker. My husband has a fully-certified Veteran PTSD Service dog that is legally allowed to be there. He was harrassed by 3 employees and then asked to leave the establisment by the OWNER. This was AFTER they had already been seated and ordered their food. His service dog was calmly seated beside his chair not hindering the ability of the employee to do their job. She was not making any noise or displaying any aggressive behaviour. This is a hard one to call. The food was excellent - as always. Hubby had Burritos Mexicanos and I had Arroz con Pollo. We were both very pleased with our food. For food quality - this restaurant is 5 stars. HOWEVER, they have moved locations and seem to be serving a larger clientele base with a much smaller venue. The service was chaotic at best. When we arrived, I had to flag someone down to get our name on the list. We were lucky enough to get a seat at the bar - there was one very nice lady serving a large bar of patrons waiting for tables. When we asked someone behind the bar if we could order a beer she replied "I don't serve beer" without offering an explanation as to why not or offering to send the bartender our way. (We found out later it was because she was 17). When we were finally seated, the table we sat at was oddly scooted in so that we had to sit on the same side. So for the chaotic service we would give 3 stars, compromising on 4 for the final review. Maybe choose a time to go that's not a busy Friday evening. read more
