I've passed this place on Tudor for 3.5 YEARS and never even realized It was here! Saw the high reviews on Yelp when I had a taste for good Mexican food. (That "King" place is trash.) I came in and was immediately wowed by the instant feel of being transported to the southern AZ, northern Mexico I was familiar with. I got a hit of that home made salsa and I was SOLD. The HOT and the mild mixed made me HAPPY instantly! I tried a wine margarita and I knew I had a new spot!! I got the 3 combo plate. Rice that was seasoned well with beans that are seasoned too....ummmphhh! Taco, Chile relleno, and a burrito! All 3 were great but that beef taco...brought me back today. 2 beef and one chicken taco...mango wine margaritas today and Ramon! Excellent food! Beautifully decorated. Superior customer service! We were warmly greeted by the effervescent hostess/waitress and seated right away in a cozy booth and brought us two baskets of chips & salsa. The four of us ordered different dinners-two combination with beef taco & cheese enchilada and cheese enchilada, tamale and chile relleno, steak fajitas and shrimps taco & chile relleno. Everything was delicious, especially the Chile rellenos. Throw in a couple of margaritas, the waitress coming by to chat with us, and it made for a great end to a very long travel day. Other wait staff were very friendly, too. It was a wonderful atmosphere and a great dining experience. Highly recommend. read more

Came here for dinner after a day of chores and the food was amazing. I got the enchiladas acupulco and it had delicious seafood and crunchy vegetables topped with cheese and cream sauce. My boyfriend got the el jefe and the steak was juicy and tender. The rice and beans were also great. The tortilla chips were ok, but a little stale. The house margarita was a bit too sweet. Visited on a Thursday night at 5:30 and was the first customer with others trickling in as it got later. Decor is classic Mexican restaurant. I was greeted immediately and seated, provided with water, chips and two salsas. The booth seat I was in needs to be replaced, it was past dead and uncomfortable. It's like sitting on springs covered with upholstery. It made it as if I was at the child's table, with the table at chest height, so not very comfortable. I was so exhausted from work I didn't have the energy to complain or move. I would sit at a table next time. Server is friendly and personable. Told me the horchata is his grandmother's and it was better than many I've had. The friendly teasing was a bit much for my brain dead self, but it was fine. I ordered the al pastor burrito plate. The menu says their al pastor is beef, but it's pork. The server said he had a special where he mixes al pastor with chorizo, so ask for that if it sounds good to you. I asked for spicy so he gave me that, plus a nice grilled jalapeño on top and some pickled ones as well. Made for a great spicy dish. I was kicking myself as soon as I dug into the burrito, since it was the same rice and beans in the burrito as next to the burrito, so a double helping. Next time I'd get the burrito a la carte and get something else for variety. The refried beans were good, and the rice was better than the usual food service rice. Came in for birthday with daughters.. Older lady service worker, think it's owners wife, was pushy and rude for us to order. Ordered chili relleno's and tacos and was served enchiladas and rellonous. When it was brought to the older lady's attention she was rude and took the plate as I was actually wearing from under me. The kitchen scraped the enchilada off and put a taco in its place brought plate back. When I brought it to her attention what happened to the enchilada and taco and that my plate shud of been totally remade she said no we don't do that.. That was a treat! I went in for lunch with fellow foodie James. Neither one of us had been in before. We got there at 11:15 on a Wednesday morning and the place was very quiet aside from the Latin Music wafting from the speakers overhead. We were immediately seated by a very friendly gentlemen who I am sure has never met a stranger. I would say that he was infectiously friendly. James and I warmed right up to him in no time. We were given menus, cold water, and hot tortilla chips along with a few bowls of salsa. The menu has a lot of familiar offerings with a few things that I was un-familiar with. I went for an ala cart plate with a chili relleno, spinach enchilada, rice and beans. It was very good. James had a couple of enchiladas and a taco. The food was everything that we expected and a little bit of what we didn't expect...all for the good. My second trip was with Mrs. B. We went for lunch on the following Sunday. The place was at 80% capacity. We got the same outstanding server who welcomed us and got us seated. He informed us that we had made a very good choice to join him for lunch. He pointed out to us at the restaurant was full of Mexicans. He said that if you go to the Mexican restaurant where the Mexicans eat, you're probably going to get great Mexican food. (His words not mine) He was right! I used to wonder if Anchorage had fallen into the trap of living up to Taco Bell's standard of great Mexican food. This place is a rare find! I brought my mom and we ordered their seafood tacos and enchiladas- generous portions PACKED with seafood (way more then I saw last time I ate at Simon and Seforts). Delicious and really generous portions - not small like most other places these days !! and my mom asked for a special drink she likes - the bartender clapped her hands and brought her the best drink she's had in ages. This place was pretty bad. The decorations are all over the place. The booth seats are uncomfortable and sink in a lot. I ordered the tongue tacos, three tacos with rice and beans. The beans were refried beans and the rice was over cooked. The tacos had olives, which I had never seen before. The meat was unseasoned and the tortillas were so soggy that it couldn't be picked up without falling apart. I had to use a knife and fork to eat the tacos. The only reason I gave this place 2 stars instead of one is because the service was quick and friendly. read more

This has been a go-to for ordering lunch at work when we're craving it. Not only do they deliver, but their lunch combos are such a good deal. Normally I get the two item combo for $11 and it comes as a packed plate with rice and beans. The options are all delicious and filling, and we always receive chips and dip with our orders. I've also tried the torta and it's one of the more satisfying ones I've had around town. The ratio of bread to filling is spot on for my taste. It's consistently good already from a to-go standpoint so I can only assume that having the food at the place itself is better haha. Born & raised in Texas & have lived in AZ for the last 20 years and this was some of the best Mexican food I've ever had. I had the "El Jefe" (Carne asada, cheese enchilada, rice & beans + corn tortillas) - amazing! My wife had the carnr adobada burrito & it was good. Not too spicy & good flavor. My brother in law had the fajitas for one & loved them - " the meat was really tender & flavorful".
