We were in the way to the beach and realized I needed to charge my Tesla. Baldwin Park was on the way so decided to stop by and charge here. We were hungry so decided to try out El Espino while the car was charging while walking in, I expected there to be a posted menu. There was not haha. There is plenty of seating, which is nice if you don't want to sit in your car waiting for your Tesla to charge. The nice lady gave us a menu and we ended up being basic haha. Ordered Pupusas de Queso, Pupusas de Queso y Frijol and Platanos Fritos Solos. Everything we ordered was freshly made. It was very good! Still an incredibly solid restaurant. Mid city/ west of downtown Los Angeles is known to have many Central American immigrants and lots of delicious food. So it's so great to find an authentic Salvadoran restaurant. The food is always savory and consistent. They have their group of regulars that has kept them in business, but if you're ever looking for a true "hidden gem" you have to come to El Espino. They have pupusas and traditional plates. They have aguas frescas and a few beer options. Prices are reasonable so don't expect an Instagram worthy-restaurant, but a restaurant well loved and taken care of. 10/10. Was driving by and decided to come in since I was hungry. It is a very large restaurant. The cashier didn't speak much English but we were still able to communicate. They don't have a menu posted but you can ask for one. I asked for the house special and with pork and cheese. The AC is pretty weak in the establishment so I took my food to go. On a Saturday at 1245, there was only one table occupied. There's plenty of parking since there's a big lot. The pupusas were very hot and fresh! The curtido is perfectly sour for me but too sour for my boyfriend. The jicama is $6 for a large and a little light in flavor for me but still refreshing. read more

Sadly this place isn't it if you're craving pupusas or an ensalada drink. I can't comment on the rest of the food since I only got these two items. The place is clean and the waitress was nice and attentive. The food was disappointing. The pupusas revueltas were a good size and had stuffing in them but they didnt have any flavor. Had to add salt to them. Same goes with their salsa de tomate, it was literally just blended tomatoes no flavor to it. The worst let down was their ensalada. the only fruit it had was apples and "carrots"?!? I've never had an ensalada served with carrots in it and sadly that's all you could taste. Really bummed about this place because it's close to home but we wont be coming back :( read more

Horrible customer service no type of greetings they just look at you and no "we will you be with shortly or anything". After the rude worker helped me she didn't even give me my receipt or even asked if I wanted my receipt. So I grab it as I'm walking out she said "you could have asked I would have gave it to you" and she said some name I'm not sure what she said cuz she said it in Spanish. I had no energy to turn around and argue with her or ask her what she said or had called me. But I will never return here. Food is OK, if you can manage to order. The few times I've been here the service is lacking, the ladies ignore you and eventually when you do order they're not very friendly. The food is very good if you are willing to wait 2-3hours for it. Forget about calling ahead expecting them to have the food ready by the time you get there because they won't have it ready. To add: some of the staff is very dismissive and rude even if you have been a consistent monthly/weekly customer for over 10 years. The same product has gone up in price over the years as well, which is to be expected due to inflation but for the increased relative price you'd expect better service at least. I got here @9:45am to wait and be ready meanwhile they open, but it was 10:03am and nothing. 10:20am, nothing.. my boyfriend asked the next door lady when they were going to open and she said they should be opened by now, but he can leave his order and come later. We opted out. We decided to go down the street and check out a restaurant for pupusas, sadly they didn't serve them. We were on our way to another store when we passed by and they had opened, not even 5 minutes from the time we left and they opened! We walked in and my boyfriend had mentioned we hadn't even left and they opened! Mind you it's 10:59am already. She said "Los hombres siempre son bien necios!" Disrespectful. We called placed an order for 6 bean and cheese pupusas and we ended up getting the wrong order. We don't eat pork, but that's what we got . When we asked the waitress that we got the wrong order. She said we ordered the pork??? We would never order that, since we don't eat meat. We told her we will never return, and she said ok no problem. I have been coming here for years. I really love the food but over the past few years, the business and customer service aspect has declined. Yeah, I know COVID damaged a lot of businesses but the price increases do not justify the service or the quality of the food. I find we pay more for the same amount of food or in some cases, less food. Customizing a plate does not decrease the price. For example, if we order plátanos without beans and crema, we are charged the same as if ordering the whole dish. Another example: ordering a side of huevos entomatadas without all of the trimmings costs the same as ordering the entire dish. Things like that should have a modified price. Unfortunately, I am going to have to take my business to a place where the price is reasonable for the quantity of the food. read more

I asked if he mentioned the deal but due to the language barrier I'm guessing they assumed they could just screw us over. Been here a few time for pupusas given the size you only need a couple and will be filled.

Was looking up Salvadorean restaurants and this came up. From the outside it didn't look all that special. The inside wasn't too special either. The restaurant had some basic tables nothing too fancy. Had a nice TV. which was on a Spanish channel also had a jukebox. The waitress was really nice. We ordered Horchata, pupusas, tamales, and the fried banana plate. The horchata was authentic Salvadorean style which i really liked. The pupusas were great too. Only complaint food wise was the tamales. My Mom said the chicken in the tamale tasted old. The meal total was about $20 dollars for 2. I don't think I will be coming here again tho, unless I'm in the area. There's a better place close to my house. Also it didn't seem too lively.
