El Famous Burrito will always be one of my top favorite places! I've been eating at El Famous since I was a kid. It's sad reading some of these negative reviews because my husband and I have never experienced that. The staff is always so friendly, the food comes out fast, and they are one of the few restaurants that do their corn tortillas right. I was so excited to eat my dinner tonight I forgot to take pics before I ate! So you're getting some taco pics mid meal lol. I am OBSESSED with their chile relleno tacos. Staff was friendly, but part of our order was missing, the the ground beef in the nachos was unseasoned, had no flavor, hot sauces were watered down barely more than green and red colored water. We usually ask for three of each but we had to use all of them in the nachos to give them some flavor. Had to use all six to even taste it. We been customers for past 25 years and have been through the ups and downs of several management changes but the food was always good. Like I said, the staff was friendly but the food? Awful. Are here the last two Tuesdays. The place was clean and the order takers were very nice. They messed up one of the orders, fixed it without asking and sent the error home with us. Always enjoy the ambience and the friendly staff. Plenty of parking in front always! They do a great job keeping up and the tables are always clean. Portions are decently sized , but have shrunk in the last year, and the price is right at the average market value. Ordered a junior burrito with extra meat, jalapeño fresco, cilantro and sour cream. what I got was a burrito that was a flour tortilla taco extra large. It fell apart on my first bite in the car. I went in and showed the manager and she said it was my fault because I ordered too many ingredients and that I only ordered a junior burrito. So i explained that she charged me more than a regular burrito, and gave me a junior burrito tortilla and that the burrito wasn't wrapped correctly. She wanted to argue about it, then had my burrito remade on a regular burrito tortilla, told the grill guy to stuff it bigger, which I'm not mad about, except I cant eat it without the burrito falling apart. Husband and I were looking for a smallish late lunch. Tony was surfing yelp and he came across this restaurant which he said he frequented when he was living in Rogers Park. This location is just a few minutes from our house and I like NACHOS so I agreed to try it. The NACHOS were not bad but somewhat soggy unfortunately. I remarked about that but Tony said he should have gone to pick it up much sooner. The nachos were substantial and a reasonable price ($10). Lots of toppings (maybe too many). Went in with my husband and the lady just stared at us and said nothing. It was around 4:30 and it was empty on a Saturday, should've been the first red flag. Burritos don't come with avocado so we ordered them to have it. Was surprised it was $1.50 extra, figured it was a good amount of avocado. We got our order and was also surprised at the amount of fries we got for $3.15. As we were eating our burrito we saw that they completely missed the avocado so I went back to let them know and that I wanted a refund, the cashier told me she could not and one of the cooks asked me if I wanted on the side, which didn't serve any purpose so I said no and I would like just a refund. Cashier rolled her eyes at me and went over to the register where she was in fact able to refund me even though she said it was not possible. Food was mid and definitely not worth the price. I was at a low point in my life with little to eat and not much hope left in my soul. I saw the heavenly glow of the letters spelling out "El Famous Burrito". I knew it was meant to be. I walked in and I was hit with a legendary ambiance of warm food and friendly folks. I ordered 3 Lengua tacos. Little did I know these three simple tacos would change my life. The warm meat hit my tongue along with the smooth cilantro, diced onion, and simple but so delicious, corn tortillas. I left the place with a full belly and a new hope in life. My life changed from that day for the better. I am now successful and come back to El Famous Burrito every once in a while to pay patronage to the ones who made life worth living. read more

I would avoid this place at all costs. I wanted to try some tacos around the area, biggest mistake ever going there. The tacos were so hard it was like eating a cold tomale. Overcooked. I asked for Fries , no beans, no rice, instead they gave me beans and rice, no fries. But that's just the tip of the iceberg. The lengua taco: tongue was barely cut and in huge portions it was almost as if I was making out with a cow. (PLEASE SEE ATTACHED PHOTO) Portions of tongue so large you can see the papillae. Taco... had lettuce, tomato and cheese on it. Nooo!! The tortillas were thick (in a bad way) greasy and rubbery. No limes. The unwanted toppings were just a pile of slop. I couldn't decide whether to give them a 4 star or 5 star rating, but in the end they didn't blow me away. The both times ordering here I got the jr. steak burrito which was the perfect size. The steak was cooked and flavored well, and the other ingredients were great and well proportioned to the amount of meat. Descent tasting Mexican food. Came here for a quick dinner this past weekend because I was in the area and had a taste for Mexican food. I got the combo burrito. I usually test everybody's burritos done not every Mexican restaurant make the large burritos. It was a nice large burrito so they already won off size. I finished it because I was basically starving but it left it's mark because I was STUFFED the rest of the evening. On to taste. It did not disappoint in this regard. While the flavors were not the BEST Mexican food I've ever had, it was good enough to get the job done. Fortunately, they weren't stingy on the sauce. Use to be my go to Mexican place. I would drive from West Chicago to this location. The food quality has gone down hill and so has their portions. I was here recently spent $70 on food and left a tip. My son went up and asked for 2 sides is sour cream they wanted to charge me almost $4. I definitely will not be returning.
