Recently at a workshop I attended in Chicago, we had Cilantro Grill provide our lunch for a larger group. They provided a wide assortment of tacos, rice, and side sauces. This was an excellent option for a large group because all items were easily shared! I had a few of the various tacos that were offered, however, the asada tacos were by far my favorite. The steak was very flavorful and went exceptionally well with the available toppings and sauces. The tacos were plenty to fill me up yet were light enough to enjoy during a busy workshop day! The rice and sauces were also a good addition to the tacos. Depending on how much spice you wanted, the sauces provided additional flavors. Also, it was nice to be able to choose which sauces one wanted to pair with their tacos. All items were prepared fresh! The catering provided by Cilantro Grill was a great option for the workshop. The food was full of flavor, the portion sizes were abundant and the taco options provided a way for each attendee to pick what they preferred. Got a takeout order -- a steak burrito with no beans. There was a bit too much sour cream, and I noticed there was barely any tomato. The steak itself was cooked really well though. I also got chips and salsa on the side -- the chips were good, but the salsa had a smoky aftertaste that I didn't really like. I don't understand why reviews aren't higher here. I came here for Taco Tuesday and it was a great deal for a delicious meal. I loved that they gave us limes to add to the chicken taco with lettuce, tomato, and cilantro that I ordered on a flour tortilla. FYI-the tomatoes aren't diced, so I probably wouldn't order them again in the future. Service was fast and the restaurant was clean and cute-see the photos left by others. Fresh, clean taste, not greasy! I was desperate for an iced tea, and was able to get an unsweetened one here, which is my preference. We ordered QDoba over the weekend and this was SO much better. Unfortunately, Cilantro has completely changed. I used to really like their tacos and everything that they served. But, the last few times I've noticed a changed. The meats are under seasoned. They're still good quality meat and product. But, it's just not the same as it used to be. I also hate how they charge $1.50 for pico de gallo on two street tacos. When, that is the only thing that has any flavor. All in all, they have good quality food. It's just under seasoned. They have plenty of seating. Everything is sparkling clean. And most of the people are super sweet and helpful. So, it makes up for what's lacking in flavor. read more

I was craving Mexican food and placed an Uber Eats order. Uber Eats is fantastic by the way! I tried the Quesabirria BOGO which was fabulous! My lunch AND dinner. If you never have tried Quesabirria I don't know where you have been! The Quesabirria is really good here. Now for the Asada torta and I'm assuming any torta sandwich here. The sandwich bun is significantly larger here than the amount of meat on the sandwich! I removed a star here just because of the disparity between the meat and the bread in this torta! Even though this was a bogo special I felt like I didn't experience any savings! I removed one of the buns and folded the other bun in half just so I could savor the taste of a proper torta sandwich. It was ok. There are a lot of great Mexican places around, even though the Quesabirria is good here I'm going to pass and order from my faves. read more

Decided to come back after initially being annoyed at the charge for cilantro, and other things you can find in my previous review. ;-) The foods is still decent. I tried the Carnitas burrito, which was made fresh, and had good, if mild flavor. The size was definitely on the small side, but if you're looking for a light meal, this would work well. The salsas are excellent, at least the medium and hot ones which I tried! Still 'nickel and dime' treatment of customers. Burrito is $9.95, per the menu board, but I was charged $10.35. ALSO, there is a small sign at pickup which says you get a significant discount (3.89%!) if you pay with cash. Why this is placed at the END of the counter, where you pick up your food and have already paid, I don't know. Not customer service oriented, and somewhat petty. Overall, very small for a $10.35 burrito, though still fresh and well made. I'll probably not be coming back since there is a MUCH better / more authentic burrito place a block away, with far more flavor / size / customer service for your buck! If you want Tex-Mex options, there is also another place just a few blocks the other way with a similar burrito for less money. read more

The girl behind the counter was nice and friendly. The day I came there was a long line, but it moved pretty quickly. Reasonable prices. Each location varies with regard to taste and quality. Pretty much a hit or miss for me. So when food is good it is great.

I'd been meaning to try this place for a while, and a local coupon finally got me in. They offer a bunch of different kinds of meat, including a "plant-based chicken." I ordered a taco, flan, and a "Mexican street corn" (elote). $14 less the coupon for the taco. The tacos usually include rice, which I don't think belongs in a taco, so I got mine without rice and without meat. I would ask for beans next time; it was a little naked (there was a small piece of avocado, which hit the spot). The corn tortilla was tasty and sturdy but completely unable to handle the giant tomato slice provided; chopped would be helpful, this is not a salad. Other than the tomato which kept falling out of the taco, it was pretty tasty. They offer salsa when you get your food; I picked medium, which was plenty hot for me. They hand you a bottle (none on the tables). The taco would have been better with mild; the elote was OK but wasn't spiced at all, which was OK since I had this big bottle of salsa. The flan has a very clean label (ingredients printed right on it! No chemicals, no preservatives) and was enormous; caramel sauce is indeed a little skimpy but I found it sufficient. My piece was scored so it could be cut in two, so I ate half. It was a pretty solid texture; flavor was nothing special; probably wouldn't get again. As noted elsewhere, prices are for cash (there's a small sign where you pick up your food). And if you want to use the bathroom, there's a code printed on your receipt. Overall, pretty good fast casual food, but nothing I'd travel for unless I was after that plant-based chicken. read more

We made a special trip from Winfield to try this place. My family was fine with it but my son related it to Burrito Parillla, which he preferred over this place. It's 13 min drive, not enough to bring us back. Things that would help: The serving sizes were small. We spent about $65 for 4 and walked away hungry. Bought my son a bag of chips and churro. Still not satisfied/full. More rice and beans is a cheap option to meet this need. The place was empty when we visited. 3 or 4 people working. Bring the food to the table even though you don't have to. Ask if we need something, Good places up their service when they've got people standing around. Especially if you forget something from the order, bring it out. This group seemed content to stand around and socialize. Don't start closing up the dining room 90 min before closing. It's uninviting. Too expensive to serve dinner on foam carry out containers for dine in. Chips and salsa for free is customary for Mexican restaurants. This is a chain, may not be allowed to do so. The restaurant was cold on Sunday night. Made for unpleasant dining. Small things could make big difference. More emphasis on the experience for the customer is needed. read more

Decided to stop in as it was next to GNC. Great for a quick bite. Friendly bilingual staff who took the time to explain menu options to the guests in front of me as well as myself. When my order was ready I noticed a white board of staff responsibilities for both the morning and afternoon shifts. Cilantro Taco Grill is a solid Mexican food spot that just opened on Roosevelt in Glen Ellyn. They have a menu that includes all the greatest hits and the food tastes amazing! I stumbled upon this place during a recent visit to Jewel and knew I had to try it. For lunch I popped in and, after hemming and hawing over the menu for a few minutes, I decided to go with a Burrito Dinner and two Jarritos. The burrito was HUGE and tasted AMAZING. It was paired with the usual beans and rice and they also threw in some pickled/spicy carrots and cauliflower (highly recommend!). Honestly, I could go on and on about this place as it really checks all the boxes: it's clean, inviting, the staff is friendly, the food is delicious, and the prices are right. It's great! My usual go-to for authentic Mexican food is Los Burritos Tapatios but no more - Cilantro Taco Grill is the new king! Nope! Don't bother. Despite the restaurant looking clean and the atmosphere appearing aesthetically pleasing to the eye, don't let that fool you. I ordered a chicken burrito. The outside tortilla was too soggy and doughy to even cut through, with their plastic cutlery. I found a bone in one side of my burrito, on the other side, what looked like a cartilage tip from a chicken leg. They don't use white meat and don't care of bones are found in your meal. I had to throw it away. My cousin ordered steak tacos and struggled eat them, as the meat was nothing but grizzle. I do not recommend this place if you like good food. read more

I've had the vegetarian tostada at the Cilantro Taco Grill in Oakbrook Center and the one in Yorktown Center. At both places it was made the same way and was very good - lots of sliced avocado and refried beans. But at the Glen Ellyn location it was a different story - just one slice of avocado, the merest hint of refried beans, and a small dusting of Mexican rice. Who puts rice on a tostada? So, they substituted less costly rice for more costly avocado and they skimped on the toppings. $5.42 including tax and a surcharge for paying with a credit card - all for about 200 calories of inexpensive food. I guess some people figure they can cheapen everything up and it won't hurt their volume enough to lower their overall profit. Maybe it's true but I will never visit one of their locations again - so we both saved some money. read more

While I do like the food here (despite the 25% increase in food) they also charge a fee if you use a credit or debit card which they call a "cash discount" as far as I've heard they're not supposed to do that but they do and I would think that the 25% increase should be enough to cover that! read more

How lucky are we to get a Cilantro here next to the Jewel! I've ate at many of their other locations and was so happy To hear that they are opening in GE. Just came with my family.
