The veggie enchiladas were fabulous! I love how they let you chose black beans as a side. The service was quick and friendly. The manager have two table touches to us and all the other tables. Showed up with three other guests. Hardly anyone in the restaurant. Plenty of waitstaff scurrying about while the manager sat looking at us from the bar. Not one of them asked us if we wanted a seat. Finally we decided to walk out and go to Tomalles, when manager heard us talking about leaving, that's when he finally tried to seat us. Tomalles waitstaff was excellent and the food was so good. This is the second time we've been here for a late lunch and been disappointed. Had to wait close to an hour for food, had to keep asking for tea refills and, had to keep asking for our queso which tasted like canned cheese as did the chicken in my Chimichanga which was also not seasoned well. Husband had steak fajitas which he said were good but had to track down waiter for his cheese, sour cream and guacamole setup. This place is going downhill on their services and quality. The food was good at our 3/25/21 visit. No complaints on food This was an early lunch and the dining room wasn't busy. However, the female server with bleach blonde hair with dark roots was terrible. She seemed bored and uninvolved. She began taking the order, then said " so that's all?" before even taking my order! The chips and salsa arrived with the meals. She never refilled drinks, salsa or came back to the table. We had ordered dessert when ordering meals. We sat forever and finally asked someone else about the dessert. The server brought out the ice cream and sopapilla dessert forks- no spoons, no knife. Again, we had to ask someone else. She never asked if we needed drinks or coffee. Then, we waited forever for our tab. As an added note, we were seated near a kiosk and every time the female manager with long dark hair used the kiosk, we were choking due to how horribly heavy her perfume was! When she'd walk by, the perfume stayed in the air like a cloying decaying vase of flowers. So, we won't go back. Get your act together El Fenix. read more

The guacamole is legitimately the only thing in this entire establishment that has any taste. Their food is extremely bland tasting. And although I've only been there twice, half of my visits made me quite certain that a third would also not be a charm nor would it be necessary. With my first trip the service was the absolute worst. The server chose to concentrate all of her time on a 6 top, allowing us to sit there at our table with no drinks, chips or food for at least 15 minutes. I kept thinking she would redeem herself but unfortunately for us she never did. The second trip, the service was better but unfortunately the food was not. We ordered to go food last night, we were missing tortillas for our fajitas, my salad had the wrong dressing and was missing most of the toppings, and our kids meal drink was missing. The meat for fajitas as well as the salad looked and tasted like they had just scraped the burnt pieces off the grill and threw it in there. After a long day of driving we stopped in here for some Mexican food, we stopped at 8:30 pm and were promptly told that we would be seated "in a few minutes", 15 minutes later we were told: " sorry, my manager has said that it's to close to closing time (9pm) for us to serve you" Ummm, ok, that would've been helpful information 15 minutes ago, as now most restaurants in the area are damn near closed (as they are all closing at 9 pm). This place is clean and beautifully decorated-- lots of authentic-looking decor that adds to the dining experience. The hostess that sat us down told our waitress we didn't want chips and salsa for some odd reason-- the waitress said so when she double-checked and asked if we wanted chips.. yes we did and I don't know why the hostess told her otherwise. Our waitress was nice; she got our drinks out to us quickly and kept them refilled whenever we ran on empty. She took our food order and our party of 3 ordered the Juarez plate (one beef enchilada, one guacamole tostada, and one beef taco), a subbed Taxco plate (2 beef tacos, one beef enchilada, and one cheese enchilada), and a Assorted Botana platter (chicken and beef flautas, chicken nachos, and fajita beef quesadillas). So I had the Juarez plate and my beef enchilada had the beefy chili on top but absolutely no beef inside-- only cheese. My girlfriend's cheese enchilada had beef inside of it. Either our waitress got the order wrong or the chefs messed up and forgot which enchilada was which before they plated our food. Either way, both of us were disappointed and didn't get what we wanted or ordered. The beans don't taste very good and the rice seems slightly underseasoned. The tacos came out to us COLD. Like the beef wasn't even remotely warm. The chicken flautas were good and so were the beef quesadillas. The beef flautas were a little odd-- but maybe we just wasn't expecting the shredded beef to taste like roast beef. Everything overall tastes mediocre but our waitress checked on us from time to time, and the chips and salsa was very delicious. May or may not come back here but definitely won't order the enchiladas or the tacos again. read more

Nick the manager is always there to greet us and always goes above and beyond to make sure we are taken care of. I went there today and placed an order to go. I wanted a Fiesta Salad plus a salad that only consisted of lettuce, grilled chicken, and pico. The girl that took the order couldn't understand that. My order came out including beans, cheese, guacamole and thin tortilla strips. I sent it back saying what 3 items I wanted on it. The girl that brought it said it was correct this time. THE WORST experience I've had at an El Fenix. Order was wrong, had to correct it three times, to which each time it came back was even worse. They forgot my kids chicken fingers and we found a piece of plastic in my other kids beans. Our waitress was sweet and felt terrible, they comped our order. First timer today for the Sunday all you can eat buffet brunch & it was really good. We went right at 11am and they had all kinds of good food ready. Fajitas, beans, rice, tamales, enchiladas, eggs, chorizo, breakfast potatoes, tacos, pancakes & even posole! They still served chips and salsa but we didn't eat much of that because the buffet was full! They even offered mimosas and bloody Mary's! Our waiter was so attentive & refilled our drinks several times. The price for 6 people (2 of which we're kids) was around $50! Totally worth it! Such a good deal. This location is right of I30 so it was easy to find. I do recommend going as early as they open for the Sunday buffet. It filled up fast! read more

This new Greenville restaurant lives up to the original El Fenix in downtown Dallas. El Fenix's taste is distinctive. We really like it. The Hatch chili recipes are outstanding. I enjoyed the original cheese enchiladas. It was the same taste that I remember from 45 years ago when I first started eating El Fenix. Our waitress was excellent. The manager stopped by to check on our meal. We have only one major complaint. We drink water with our meals. The Greenville water tastes awful, almost undrinkable. The restaurant would do well to either filter the water, or buy other water for drinking. read more

Best service we have had. The waitor was very attentive without being overbearing. The manager was walking around asking people how everything was. Very nice people. The problem we had was with the food. There was no flavor. It was very bland. We mentioned this to the manager and he brought my husband some Tabasco to give it a little kick. We didn't expect excessive heat because that isn't for everyone but there was no seasoning. If you like your food bland, then you may like this. Very impressed with my latest visit to El Fenix. Our waiter Riley did a phenomenal job and the food was excellent. I ordered their new veggie and avocado enchiladas and wiped my plate clean. This location has the best Mexican food in Greenville with a lot of variety. Their staff has great teamwork, and I was impressed with the manager coming to our table to assist when Riley got swamped with a load of customers all at once. The waiter was good but the kitchen is bad news. The food prep time was excessive (40 minutes) from arrival time. The enchaladas had a Wolf brand chili- tasting sauce. The combo fajitas seemed as though they were pre cooked and microwaved; cooking definitely started elsewhere. The shrimp were midget. The grilled onions weren't done enough. It was okay for the lower price, but all the sides were really good. The "large" (y'all) beer is fairly priced at happy hour but is mostly glass and possibly about the amount of a can of beer? Service was very attentive but not well versed on the menu. Only problem on this visit was another waiter was over-serving drunk friends who were very loud and disruptive (in the family dining area and not in the bar). El Fenix is one of the most consistent restaurants when it comes to food as you'll find. No different here. However, the service is somewhat concerning. While there are some very good servers here, there is a disturbing trend recently. Was being seated at a dirty table and asked the host if the table could be wiped down. He proceeded to use the napkin with the silverware rolled up in it, and then tried to give me that napkin! On another trip, order the Wednesday special, the same one I've been ordering for 20+ years at various locales throughout the metroplex, and was told there isn't one. Caught off guard, I wondered if it wasn't Wednesday (it was) before asking the waitress if she was new. Was told she had worked there since the place opened and nobody had ever ordered the special from her. She actually went back to the kitchen to verify if there was one! I'll continue to eat here, but hopefully management sees this and trains their staff better. UPDATE: you can read my reviews of the adjoining restaurants (Snuffers, La Ventana) and their dwindling service. Finally made its way to El Fenix. Have been noticing lately they seem to be understaffed most times. Went in Tuesday night. Had to wait 20 minutes or so, no big deal. After being seated for 10 minutes or so and not ha omg been served chips and salsa or a drink order taken, noticed there were several other tables that didn't have any food, empty drinks, or were trying to flag down a server. Was disappointed tonight. Took my mom here for Mother's Day. They were understaffed and we had to ask for silverware 2x times. The drinks were muddy tasting. I ordered combo fajitas and the came out barely hot. Not even a sizzle. The flavor was sub par and the steak ones were very overlooked. (Read almost burned). The chicken side was barely seasoned. The charro beans were excellent though. Our waiter was doing his best but he was all over the place. When they first opened. Service and food were excellent.
