My wife and I visited El Festin Restaurant this evening, and as regular customers who have dine here 3-4 times a month, I feel this review is more than justified. After being seated, a male waiter brought us water and took our order, and that was the last time we saw him until we were paying. When our food arrived, it was delivered by a younger female staff member who then stood directly in front of us, talking over our table to people on the other side of the wall. It was extremely rude and uncomfortable. We ordered the Tampiqueña, which is our usual choice, but this time it was very disappointing. The dish arrived missing tortillas and guacamole. The enchilada tasted off, the cheese was unpleasant, and the steak was overcooked. The rice and beans were only room temperature and didn't taste right either. I ended up only eating part of the steak. I was ready to leave, but my wife wanted to give them a chance to address the issue. Unfortunately, their idea of making things right was giving us a bag of hard chips and what seemed like old guacamole to take home. In response, I chose not to leave a tip, and sadly, they've lost loyal customers. Based on this experience, I would recommend going somewhere else. read more

We were charged for a few items that we didn't order. I'm sure it was a mistake but it took quite a while to get it resolved because I don't speak Spanish. The margarita was very delicious. This is my favorite authentic Mexican restaurant in the area - and there are a TON of great options. Whether picking up food to go or eating in, I have never had a bad experience with Taqueria Muniz. For years, I got the same order of a steak torta because it is so delicious and I found myself craving them and had to return. Recently, me and my husband have started to order outside of our usual selections when visiting this restaurant, and we have not found an option on the menu that we have been disappointed in. My most recent order was a steak chimichanga and it was amazing. Their red and green hot sauces are both awesome. The service is always quick and courteous. The atmosphere is nice and simple. There is a half wall running down the middle of the restaurant so it feels a little more private when you are dining in. They serve soft drinks by the can instead of with a fountain. I used to love this place and it has since changed; the menu went up in price by 20%. I asked for a guacamole today and they said that due to avocados going up in cost they are charging $8.50 for a small when it is $4.25 regularly. Jalisco's down the street on Galena and Elmwood does not charge more nor is there a commodity increase on avocados so I am unsure where they procure their's but it is ridiculous to charge double. That sounds like gouging to me. The food is not the same, the owner is not here and they really went down in quality. The pictures on the wall do not match what you get i.e the Flautitas, as a 6 count are pictured and the Flautas are in the menu and you get 3. read more

Went with coworkers for lunch. Most of them ordered three tacos, but I ordered two. When food was brought out, there were three tacos on my plate which I told the waitress. She looked around, took my plate towards another table, took one taco off my plate with her bare hand and put it on a napkin. When we looked towards the table later, the taco was gone. Maybe it was her mid-morning snack? When we asked a busboy for more chips, he looked at us like we were crazy and copped some 'tude. One of my coworkers said something to him in Spanish and he returned with a half-full basket of chips. 3 stars solely based on service. Food was fine but not memorable. read more

Taqueria Muniz has opened a smaller location off Rt. 25. The old location of Tacos Maria's which was one of my favorite locations for Mexican food, breakfast, lunch or dinner. When I first arrived the atmosphere had changed completely. The outdoor patio was gone, the walls repainted, I was excited. But when we got inside although things got a big upgrade the staff was very confused about what bacon was. I used to order bacon egg and cheese tacos before. I understood they didn't have any so we tried steak egg and cheese tacos. Our waitress didnt even know what Orange Juice was and asked us if Orange Crush was a better option. The food was served and to our surprise there was hair in the food. The chips and salsa they served were partially burnt. The salsa was the only great feature to this small, depressing hole in the wall. I really like this restaurant. The food is good, and the service is also good. I have told many of my co-workers about this place and they order from here frequently as well now. I use to only go to Fajitas Mexican Restaurant in Lagrange for Mexican food. That was the only mexican restaurant that i trusted. I'm from romeoville and bolingbrook, and i haven't had a good experience with el burrito loco in bolingbrook and Ruby's burrito's in romeoville is even more racist towards black people. So if my mexican family members didn't cook dinner at they're house. I'll would just eat a salad or I'll go all the way to lagrange for Mexican food (i love mexican food) but i found this place, because it is close to my job and i like it. I am disappointed in this establishment. I went in to pick up an order to go. None of the workers were wearing masks. I find this troublesome; as it's still a state mandate. Our numbers are going up which means at a minimum in public indoor places masks should be worn. They are not in compliance with this mandate. I think this begs the question what other health department rules that they don't like aren't they following? read more

Walking into the restaurant you notice it is not fancy but it is clean. Super clean. Greeting by friendly hostess/server. Food came out super fast and was quite good. Although not specifically on the menu, they were happy to make me a veggie chimichanga. Food is not spicy but you can add heat with their sauces. If me and my husband could give 0 stars we would. We ordered our food and sat there about 40 minutes until finally deciding to go pay for the 2 sodas we had. The girls upfront seemed confused and unsure about the order being put in. Never bothered to go check if we needed another drink or anything. Dining in is a lot more comfortable here than Jalisco Tacos, there are more tables available and you won't shiver every time someone opens the door. There's music playing, so you're not just subjected to episodes of Sabado Gigante. The Cochinita Pibil (shredded pork) are to die for! The steak were also very good, and my husband really liked the chorizo. Chips and salsa are complimentary and delicious. We also ordered guacamole which was too creamy for my liking and didn't pack much flavor. The horchata was okay too (sorry, but Jalisco is much better). No complaints. No major dislikes. I walked in the door, was greeted by a couple of friendly employees, and sat myself down in one of their simple old-school restaurant booths. They brought out some very tasty chips and salsa for me to munch on while awaiting my taco-based feast. Their taco dinner consists of three tacos with rice and beans on the side. I got three different meats: chicken, shredded beef, and shredded pork. It's impossible to say witch one was the best: all three meats were delicious (and so was the side of rice and beans!) This is the kind of food you just keep eating long after you're totally full. Resist the urge to lick your plate clean... The Aurora area has many excellent options when it comes to Mexican food, but in my opinion, you'd have a hard time finding anything better than Taqueria Muniz! read more

Wow! this place get so much respect from me. I did a return visit and ate in rather than took out. That made a world of difference. I got to see first-hand how good (and friendly) the service is. The other part of that good service is that I was kindly guided through the normal toppings for tacos I had never had before. Nicely done, I didn't feel foolish at all the way they took care of me! I can honestly say the Conchinta Pibil was a treasure, however I loved the Taco de Alambre. I can't go back to Asada anymore. It didn't need anything but what it came with. Liked that they offered regional specialties that I haven't seen in that many taquerias. The conchinita pibil, was one of them, which is a type of shredded spiced pork that I got in some tacos and tried some cabeza tacos while there. Hate to say this, but I was let down by both. The conchinita pibil and cabeza meat texture were kinda soggy and lacked flavor. I did like the red onions what were with the conchinita pibil, which gave it a hot/sweet flavor. Also ordered a pork burrito, which was better than the tacos. Good combination of all the ingredients, solid! Jamaica (drink made with a hibiscus tea leaves) was pretty good as well. Okay so I go here often and I will admit that the food is really good! the meat is very tasty I love it. The only reason why I'mm not giving 5 stars is because the portions have gotten smaller and keep getting smaller and prices keep going up. I had a torta, 5 tacos and 2 drinks my total was $22 plus tip. The owner has become more greedy I remember when his portions were at least normal. I noticed the bread for the torta is smaller. So the things that get me mad is the small portions and the high price. Also the restaurant can use some renovations, the restroom is just nasty there's some sort of wall paper peeling off. Before I forget, the salsa is cold and the chips are hard, you will be way better off going to a different restaurant that serves bigger portions and same quality meat. read more

Stopped by for lunch and was satisfied with what I received. Had the taco dinner ($7.95) which was 3 tacos accompanied with rice and beans. Meat was tasty, slightly on the dry side and rice and beans were typical, but nothing special. Chips didn't seem to be made inn house , but salsa did. Also, two homemade hot sauce options on table (red & green). Tried one of the huaraches with the pastor...this was excellent. Service was great and food came quick. All in all I was happy and will be back. Definitely recommend the pastor, next time I will try a specialty dish. read more

We started off with chips and salsa, which was very good then we had guacamole that was made fresh and we added jalapenos and onions and it was absolutely incredible! I had the enchiladas and all I can say is WOW! So good! This place was cheap too so worth more than what I paid. I would definitely go back here it is so much better than other places I've been. Amazing tacos! Best I've found in Aurora and some of the best I've had anywhere. I had the Barbacoa, Al Pastor and Carne Asada. Then I ordered another Barbacoa and Al Pastor because they were that good. The sauce they give you with the pastor tacos is incredible. Highly recommend this place! read more
