El Frias has been in Lampasas for a year or so, but since we have four other Mexican restaurants, I haven't tried them yet. I arrived about 1:00 pm on a Tuesday. After the lunch rush there were only two occupied tables so I was seated immediately. The server led me to my seat, handed me a menu, and asked me what I wanted to drink. I chose water with lemon which was quickly brought along with chips and salsa. The salsa was flavorful and not too spicy. I ordered TexMex Enchiladas from the lunch section of the menu. My food was brought to the table surprisingly fast! The beans and enchiladas were hot. The rice was a little on the room temperature side but still warm enough not to complain. I finished my food pretty quickly and lingered a bit munching on chips and salsa. No complaints from the staff. I asked if they happened to have churros and they do! The server said that they come four churros to an order so I asked for an order for dessert. The churros took about 7 minutes or so to cook. They were served extremely hot since they just came out of the fryer. They were served on a plate arranged like a hashtag with five dollops of whipped cream. The plate was sprinkled with cinnamon sugar and drizzled with honey. Each churro was filled with a cream custard. They were very tasty! Total came to $22 with tip. Not too bad these days! read more

Fast friendly service , awesome chill outside patio, it's huge with spaced out comfy seating and a bar outside. We only came for drinks as it was my wife's bday . We each had a marg to start ( the mango was DELICIOUS) and we ended up both getting both of their own beers , the light and dark Mexican lagers. Both were delicious !!! We ended up getting chips and queso and beer battered shrimp cause why not ! Both were expensive in my opinion as the queso was 9 bucks ( it was pretty good ) and the beer battered shrimp were 11 dollars ... they were good ,,, but not good enough to charge 11 dollars for 6 shrimp. Usually get food once we get to Austin, but decided to try a spot in Lampasas. The good reviews led us here! Good salsa! Cheesy white queso. Ordered the Tex Mex enchiladas and the Fried Shrimp Taco plate. Their refried beans and their black beans were both yummy! Good food. Really fast and friendly service! Very clean inside. Husband and I were out doing our weekly shopping and decided we wanted Mexican food seen this place had good reviews. When we got there around 3ish we were the only ones but very fast service. And it has a good atmosphere with adorable art on the walls. This place is amazing! The Barria tacos were juicy and very flavorful. Husband got the chicken enchiladas, it had cubed chicken not shredded which was different but he enjoyed! The place is awesome! Very nice and very clean. To start, the tortilla chips were served warm and very lightly salted. This is one of my pet peeves, why do restaurants serve 1/2 cup salt on their chips? The salsa for the chips was excellent too, so we asked for refills so we can put it on all of our food. I ordered the chicken rice bowl and hubby ordered tostadas. "Everything" was delicious. Our waitress was the sweetest person ever. Parking is ample and right off the main road. We came in with our family at about 4pm on a Friday. The place was empty, but we were promptly greeted with great hospitality from a friendly server. The place is adorable and also has a very welcoming patio. The food was great and had some unique flavors! They had both refried and black beans, both red and white Spanish rice. The chips were crisp, the queso blanco was perfect! Fajitas were hot and cooked when we ordered. The shrimp in the fajita trio was especially delicious! This is a new spot in Lampasas (formerly Bill's Burger). Easy parking, big patio for when the weather is nice. They've updated the interior and it's all nice! Cool inside with the crazy heat outside and the drinks are good! Their well tequila is El Jimidor, however we would recommend adding a shot as they tasted light, although the presentation was good. I got a couple ranch waters and they came dressed with Tajin. We got the Volcanes appetizer to share, it's a big nacho / tostada, and I'd order again. Easy to split up among a group or for your own snack. I got the grilled shrimp tacos with an a la carte Birria taco on the side, yum! Would totally order again. I felt comfortable asking about gluten free and didn't get sick at all. Really friendly and prompt service, love to see it!! Couple other photos to share from the group I went with, cheers! Their refried beans are amazing, their loaded queso is to die for! The cheese enchilada was really good. The rice was amazing. LOVED the corn tortillas. I thought they were made there but was told by waiter is it not made there. That's okay. It's fantastic! Had their jalapeño margarita. Then had another because it's THAT good. Service: was okay. Our waiter was not attentive and I had hassled for 2 orders of corn tortillas and he only brought one. Then brought one again when we asked for 2 again. Had to flag down another waitress as he was not even looking towards our table and the place was not busy. There were other customers, just not busy. Despite the not-so-good waiter, we are still giving 5 stars because their food was phenomenal and I loved their margaritas! Can't wait to catch them In the weekend for breakfast! Food and service were top notch. One young lady was running the entire front, hosting and serving, with just one cook and about 10 tables on a late Friday afternoon. My shrimp cocktail was top notch, and the in house dark Mexican ale was really good. The homemade hot sauces are the real deal, be sure and ask for the hot sauces. They have a green and a red that are both delightfully spicy. The regular salsa for the chips is good too. My daughter had nachos as she always does and the meat and chips were good food. My husband and I ate here after a golf tournament in San Saba and it was great. I tend to always order fajitas every time I eat Mexican food but I had their cheese enchiladas and my husband ordered the beef enchiladas and they were both amazing. The El Pastor Tacos were good. The Buria tacos were not very flavorful. The patio was really nice! The service was very slow but it was only two servers for the whole restaurant and one of them was hostessing and serving. The young lady who was the hostess was very kind and did a good job considering she was doing both jobs, however, nearly her entire breasts were showing from just above the nipple. I had three high school boys with me and that was quite a distraction to our meal. While I don't think that's really professional for a family friendly restaurant, I was more so heart broken for the young woman who I remember being like at her age. I would love for the owner to protect her and help her know that she is more than a body and that dressing as such can protect her from a lot of harm. read more

My husband and I dined with El Frias a few Sundays ago on the way back up from Austin to Dallas. We were so pleasantly surprised at the delicious food and great service. The chips, salsa and white queso were delicious. Sour creme enchiladas and chicken quesadillas were on point and the black beans offered were such a nice surprise to the fatty greasy refried typically served. On the brewery side, only three house brews to choose from i had the regular mexican lager and the PopinLaw had the dark, we both loved ut and definitely recommend. They had the other domestic and mexican names too... and mixed drinks. Food - 7 people all loved our food. Not over sized portions and limited on the sides. (Black beans and white rice topped w cilantro). But all pretty delisc! Our biggest negative is the price - food prices were actually reasonable but the drinks, $4+ for all the drinks - soda or tea. The hostess was amazing - mature woman with silver hair, so warm and welcoming! Have to give a positive mention there. Most of the wait staff were nice also, and service was ok. We were driving through town craving Mexican food and decided to give El Frias a try. As soon as we walked in we were greeted by a very kind hostess who seated us right away. The fresh chips and salsa were great with the perfect spicy bite. Our waitress was kind and took great care of us. We enjoyed a couple margaritas and then exceptional enchiladas for dinner. The food was pretty good. We were there at lunch I got the crispy tacos (2) , black beans & rice. My daughter had the beef enchiladas and my husband had the quesadillas. Everything was good, but the rice was like rice a roni , not Spanish rice , but it was ok. The waitresses were very nice and attentive. The only downfall was the seating. I absolutely HATE sitting on top of other people. Restaurant has one long booth seat against the walls then several tables in front, then chairs on the other side of table. When we were seated at a table for 4 and both tables on either side of us were vacant. They were tables for 2. By the time we got settled in both tables were taken . I had to move my purse for the lady seated next to me in the booth could set comfortably. My daughter was sitting next to me and she was uncomfortable sitting so close to the other people on her side. She said they kept side eyeing her when we were talking. It was just very odd. Felt like we couldn't talk bc they were basically at our table listening. If the tables were spaced apart more there wouldn't be an issue. read more
