We had lunch today and it was absolutely delicious. My husband had a brisket sandwich and I had a pulled pork. Both were outstanding. Their barbecue sauce is absolutely perfect. Great balance between vinegar and sweet and a nice black pepper kick. We had our two Jack Russell pups with us (Whisky and Pippa). They shared a half chicken. Marginal food, self service, no ambiance at all. This is a town with very few choices for dining out. You'd have to try real hard to put up a more un-appealing storefront and ordering station than those at Young's BBQ. Crude set-up, lackluster atmosphere with sloppy hand scribbled notes taped or thumbtacked to most of the walls, cheap paper plates, all plastic eating utensils -- just a sad way to see a restaurant being run. A smart investor would build a clean, pleasant, well-run barbecue restaurant in Lampasas... right next door. I had the pork ribs, cold and disappointing. The pinto beans were tasty but room temperature. "Would you like something to drink? Get it yourself!" And half of the drink selections were out of order with handwritten notes stuck to the dispensers. Our order was 2 pork ribs for me and tea to drink; a chopped sandwich and tea for my lunchtime companion... nearly $35 Never, ever again. We stopped in this BBQ establishment and we're pleasantly surprised. The staff were friendly. The portions were good. The chopped beef was not fatty at all. Great bbq spot in Lampasas that I found craving after hiking in Colorado Bend state park. Only bbq spot I found open late and dog friendly with outdoor seating. Service was very kind and asked if it's our first time which it was. Opted for the 3 meat plate to try a little of everything. The brisket was so juicy and moist, the pulled pork was flavorful, and the ribs fell right off the bone. The sauce was the perfect pairing to go with the meat. It did not disappoint, it was both fatty and tasty- satisfying every craving for authentic bbq that I had. The potato salad was exceptional too- vinegar-y and had chunks of potato! If you pass through here on your way., this is the best stop. I had the chicken plate, and the ribs were on special. Everything was spot on. It was real, true Texas bbq. I almost had to leave Texas without any good bbq. I had tried other places. This place is the real deal. I made it to the Rockies before I finished it all. My car smelled like home the whole time. I cannot tell you how good these ribs were in the mountains. It was one of the best bbq experiences. The sauce here is first class, the wood was correct. They were very nice to road weary patrons. We enjoyed the delicious smoky brisket, and the portion was very generous. We also loved the cole slaw as much as the sandwich. It was fresh, and had the perfect amount of sugar and vinegar. So good! I've had the BBQ in the past (it's good) but this review is for the breakfast. It is sooooo good! One of the best breakfast burritos I've had that I didn't make myself. I went for bacon, eggs, hash browns and brisket. Damn. There were more options but this is the perfect combo for me. Spouse had the light breakfast which is the standard fare of toast, hash browns, sausage patties and two eggs. Nothing lite about it. It was filling and delish. Kids had waffles. Important to me was that the tea was good. So many BBQ places have stale, moldy tasting tea. This was clean and sweet. Price was great. Same breakfast in Austin would run you $35-$50. What this place really has going for it is variety. My husband was able to order breakfast, while I ordered a brisket Sandwich for lunch. Unfortunately, while the brisket was flavored well, it was a little dry - just added more sauce. My husband had a good breakfast with two meats, eggs, hash browns. They had several types of stubborn soda and big red in their fountain dispenser. I saw they also had lemonade anti. I went for the blackberry soda which I really enjoyed. When you're in Texas, you think BBQ. I found myself in a small town about an hour and a half outside of Austin in a town called Lampasas. Do a search for BBQ and Youngs BBQ shows up. I believe they're the only show in town for BBQ. From what I could tell, they're a family owed restaurant and when I arrived in town, it only had 1 review with no photos. Well, now 2 reviews and I thought to give them a little social media PR by adding some of my own photos. I had the 2 meat combo with sliced beef and pork ribs. Both meats had great flavors on their own. Add their home made BBQ sauce and it gives it quite the zing! Note, they only have 1 type of BBQ sauce which is like a tangy peppery sauce. So, if you prefer a more traditional thick sweet sauce, it's not yet available or at least I didn't see it available. My recommendation to the owners would be to add a thick sweet BBQ sauce as an alternative to their tangy BBQ sauce they already serve. My meal also came with 2 sides so I chose their cole slaw and macaroni salad. Both are made from scratch. Their cole slaw is different as it is tossed in a vinaigrette type dressing vs the traditional white creamy dressing. So, if you ever find yourself passing through Lampasas, stop by Youngs BBQ and give them a try. You won't be disappointed. read more

The brisket wasn't my favorite - I found it a bit dull although it was tender and juicy ((even at 6:30pm) - but there's plenty else to eat. Love the sauce - not too sweet and very tangy, and the vinaigrette coleslaw was the perfect crunchy tart antidote to the rich meat. Potato salad was ok but pretty standard. The warm cobbler comes in little glass jelly jars with canning lids - very clever. I would definitely return if I'm back this way. We made a trip from Sun City to Lampassas, Tx to eat at Young's BBQ after seeing the restaurant on an episode of the "Daytripper". We arrived after the lunchtime rush and ordered brisket, smoked Turkey , and jalapeño cheese sausage. The brisket was great with excellent smoky bark. The smoked Turkey was great. The sausage had a unique jalapeño/cheese and spice combination. We are really glad we saw the "Daytripper" episode and followed up with a day trip to Lampassas. read more
