After several visits and pretty much had just about every menu item, I have to say, their Carnitas might be my new top 3 in town. Flavor, technique and spices are fire and not to mention the char that gives it this amazing sweetness/smokiness. Their refried beans are great as well, and the green salsa is addicting. The red sauce sadly needs work, it's flat and bitter.Their guacamole is a must have here, add this to your Carnitas tacos or bowl and you have yourself a very tasty meal. The prices are actually too low IMO, I never say this, but it's true. All & All - All the protein options are good, but the Carnitas is the MUST have. Been looking for Tacos al Pastor since our last usual food truck spot back in So. Florida. El Guero was our first try and satisfied mightily! The double wrap corn tortilla was fresh and the meat ratio perfect! The meat was seasoned and braised so you can see the coloration through and the flavor was wonderful. With just a touch of cilantro and onion the meat shone and was the star! We probably could have done without the full plate but we were doing dinner and surprise-the rice was delish and moist and the beans cheesey! The woman cooking and serving was so sweet and pleasant she makes visiting our local businesses so worthwhile. Sitting outside at Rose City Food Park enjoying the spring sunshine topped the experience off! Score! read more

Ok, I was hungry and another favorite burrito cart about 1 mile away was inexplicably closed, still this place is NOT second choice. My al pastor burrito with spicy salsa was transcendental. Hot, plenty of seasoned pork .... O...M...G. I noticed a few reviews complaining about the prices Deal with it, the days of $5 burritos are over! Another review wanted them to be more tightly wrapped. Maybe but a round burrito doesn't heat up evenly on a grill. They put a half-wrap on it that makes it easier to hold together. Almost every Mexican food cart and restaurant offers a breakfast burrito, but tastes vary widely. El Guero is my go-to cart: I often split the big $5.50 burrito into two separate meals. Unlike at some places, the potato here is mashed-like for better texture rather than included as hard cubes. And the bacon is diced so you don't pull out an entire strip in one bite. The ratio of ingredients is just right and the tortilla is grilled. I wish they'd offer some creative hot sauce options, but the standard red and green suffices. When I got out of the Army nearly 20 years ago, I worked as a long-haul truck driver for almost 2 years. Anytime I got anywhere close to Fontana, CA, I'd pull the truck over and walk a few blocks in the Southern California sun, to a little corner mercado. I'd walk in, past the classic gang snapbacks, and makebmy way to the back of the store. This is where the sweetest little bruja worked her magic. Pouring her soul into each burrito with each fold of the tortilla. Carnitas, pinto beans, rice and pico...all rolled into a culinary masterpiece; a burrito against which all burritos would be measured... ...until now! I love burritos and tacos. If I could give 3.5 I would because the woman working was so awesome. I got three tacos in total, one was carnitas which was REALLY good and the other two were "fish". Turns out they just fried up some skinny Gortons fish sticks and made a taco (one stick per taco for $3.50). Apparently the burritos are the reason people come here but it was a really hot day and I didn't want a heavy burrito. I probably wouldn't eat here again, it was ok but there are other trucks to try. Here's another rave review for El Guero, one of the best food carts in NE Portland and a solid reason to stop by the Rose City Park food court on NE Sandy if you haven't been there already. Update! I came for a cheap burrito, and I got a cheap burrito. Here's where I have a problem: it was over $10. It was a decent deal when it was a $5 burrito but that was the only thing going for them. Here's the thing...I had to fast for a 9:45 blood draw. I was beyond haangry when I started searching on yelp for a breakfast burrito. I was seriously jonesing for an eggy-meaty burrito and was delighted to find that Guero was just .70 miles from the medical office parking lot. Turns out it's in the same food court where I get my favorite breakfast bagel sandwich. I had nooo idea it was just a few carts down. As luck would have it, there were several orders ahead of mine, but that did not deter me. I just added a fish taco to help with the intense food cravings and he directed me to GF Chef for my caffeine fix to help with an intense headache. I was beyond excited when they called out my order. I polished off the taco in a mere seconds, steamy warm tortillas preparing my tastebuds for the main course - their PDX breakfast burrito. The burrito really hit the spot. It was packed with a tantalizing assortment of individually-prepared goodness and the added coffee from GF was just what I needed to go with it. And because I'm a big breakfast fan, breakfast burritos are probably the first thing I seek out at these Mexican carts. Oh, El Guero also has tacos, quesadillas, and the non-breakfast burritos (with the usual beans, rice, choice of meat, etc.), but it's like my internal target locks in on breakfast items first. It certainly helps if there's bacon. And that's just what we have here. A thick $5 breakfast burrito. A warmed giant flour tortilla gets stuffed with cooked potatoes, bacon, cheese, and eggs. A killer sweet deal, honestly. The potatoes are soft and fluffy. The smoky diced bacon is an automatic win. The proper amount of cheese and eggs for my liking. I can get all the flavors in one bite -- but if I get more bacon, that's perfectly OK. Everything is seasoned properly. Most people should be filled just from this breakfast burrito alone. The burrito came with two sauces, green and red. Perfect for the panda to just drink straight. Other breakfast items include breakfast tacos, chorizo tacos, and omelets. There's even a Chorizo Con Papas Burrito ($4.75) with potatoes, chorizo, scrambled eggs, onions, beans, cheese, and sour cream inside a flour tortilla. The regular cheese quesadilla here ($3.75) also comes with beans, rice, and guacamole. For an extra dollar, try the Special Quesadilla with melted cheese, bell peppers, onions, chicken, and guacamole. Fajita plates are $6. Choice of chicken, carne asada, or a "trio" (asada, chicken, and shrimp). On the regular burrito options, my eyes darted to the El Guero Burrito ($5) and the Chile Relleno Burrito ($4.75). The El Guero option is pretty much a Chile Relleno burrito with steak added. For me, the breakfast burrito was a huge hit, and I hope to return and try some more items! They advertise themselves as being open 7 days a week, at least for now. They may open at 9 am. read more

Really yummy and authentic Mexican food hidden in Portland's Rose City Food Park! The service is always so kind when we come and the food is consistently delicious. The only issue we had was we ordered nachos with guac on the side and it got messed up (salsa was on side but guac was on the nachos). Otherwise the food is really great. Their al pastor is amazing! Okay so the burrito is actually $5 but you should give at least a buck for a tip for this monster. Here is the lowdown. The sign says open 7 days a week at 9am. That is somewhat true, he usually arrives between 9 -10am. There are all kinda of options for various Mexican cuisine, but the breakfast burrito seems to be the go to build your own option for most people. If you want it all (mushrooms, potatoes, tomatoes, spinach, peppers, meat, cheese, sour cream, the list keeps going) you can really build a monster and it will still cost $5. read more

I've had tacos and the Cali Burrito here. The food is great and service is pretty good. Last time my wife and I went here we ordered a few tacos and some nachos. We asked for no guacamole... and it came with guacamole. We don't hate guacamole so we ate it anyway. Overall for me this place is 4-star great, but not 5 star excellent. read more

Hands down the best place to get a breakfast burrito in Portland. I don't eat eggs and this place is perfect because I can build my own delicious breakfast burrito without them and it's amazing. Super hot delicious salsa, you can get fresh jalepenos in your burrito, so gooood. 10 yrs in San Diego and I can't say I ever had tacos better than El Guero. The chicken street tacos are perfect.

I first went here wanting to try another truck but it was closed. Ordered $7 vege quesadilla. Total disappointment (just lots of uncooked onions & white muchrooms). It was meh.. I could get better taste and cheaper from package food. Not enough saltiness. Portion was small . And the side bean and rise was literally 2 spoonful and taste like from a can. Now their burrito is huge. But taste is meh.. for the waiting time and the price, I would not come back to this place. also they charge extra if you use your credit card. read more
