Went a few times it's pretty good. I was a somewhat loyal customer, one day they switched to adding guac by default onto burritos. When I order my burrito and it came with guac I told them they messed up / asked if they could make me a new one. The small spanish lady refused to help me out, that's the last time I ever went there. read more

I almost don't want to review this place because I love it so and want to be able to get a table! The food is so tasty and authentic! Even the fried beans are light and delicious. Wow, either the people reviewing this place like to settle for mediocre food and quality of service or perhaps they need to step out and eat in some other Mexican restaurants to sample other cuisine. This place is not an overall good place to eat. One or two dishes does not make a restaurant if they continue to sell a bunch of other items. Perhaps they should minimize their menu to focus on what everyone else thinks is good food, namely their burritos, tacos and flautas. Maybe the Superbirrito is the only way to go. This place is operating on a shoestring budget, which is not in itself bad, but I'm not gonna feel bad for them like some of the other people who over emphasize how good this place is when it is sorely lacking in service and flatware. Also any Mexican restaurant that can't prepare their own salsa and Tortilla chips, they come from a bag, cannot be worthy of the reviews this place is getting by some diehards. It's ok. The food was decent and pretty authentic. We didn't have any drinks. The kids they had working there looked under whatever age it is that you need to be to work in a restaurant. The chips were tostitos, I think and the salsa was what is called pico de gallo in every other place I've ever been. Kind of pricey for what you get, I think it was $13 or something for 3 tacos. El Huipil has great service, food and reasonable prices. Even on a busy nights you can expect a short wait time. I would HIGHLY recommend the Tofu burrito, baja tacos, and the churros. Also if you are looking for INTENSE flavor and a very interesting dining experience the ceviche is the PERFECT dish for you. Not perfect, but very very good. It's a popular place, so service can be a little off during times when they're overwhelmed. And the food is good quality and very consistent. Drinks here are pretty good as well. Not the best margarita I've ever had in my life, but eons better than the otehr "chain" styles restaurants in this area of Metrowest. This was our first time at El Huipil. I had the mole which was extremely flavorful. The flautas, while perhaps not equal to some in the home of tex-mex, Texas, was also crispy and very tasty. I think I've tried every restaurant that serves burritos within a 10-mile radius of Acton. El Huipl is the best for flavor, authenticity, and atmosphere. For a very reasonable price, you can be transported to the wondrous places that gave the world enchiladas, tamales, el pastor, refritos, mole, and yes, burritos. You can take it to go wrapped in foil, or go up-market to trendy, experimental Mexican at Villa Mexicana. The best Mexican food I've had since I was in Mexico. This place is amazing! Atmosphere: The servers are friendly and helpful, although not proficient English speakers, which I see as a good sign for the food. The atmosphere is just what you'd want to see of a decent Mexican joint. It's not over the top, but it's not sparse and cold either. Food: The best Mexican I've had. The tacos are probably my favorite thing on the menu. The chimichanga is also pretty good. Chips are awesome. And they have beer! I think I'll try the burrito next time. Prices are reasonable. 3 stars is being generous. Service is sub par and the waitresses are actually kinda rude. We went for a going away dinner and felt unimportant and rushed out of the restaurant. All this would be fine if the food was actually worth the price they charge but it's not.. I love Mexican food it's actually one of my favorites but theirs is nothing to write home about it's just adequate at best. Worst quesadilla ever and their guac tasted like lines not avocado. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else to eat it's just not worth it. And if you're on the north shore try howling wolf or taco lupita definitely worth a visit!!! read more

Great Mexican food! Prices recently went up but still affordable. You used to be able to order at the counter, pay, and sit down and eat it, but now they wait on the tables (I assume they do this now for the tips) it doesn't seem like the kind of place where you get waited on, especially since the menu is posted on a board at the counter. The burritos are delicious. The food comes out in less than 10 minutes every time. I also love the churros! They are the perfect dessert if you are feeling sinful. The waitresses don't always check to see how the meal is after they deliver the food, which on multiple occasions I have needed more napkins, more water. Etc and had to wait it out or go get it myself. If they want to make tips they need to be more attentive to the customers. The food is good enough for me to return again. read more

I tried this tonight, and I can't say I am impressed - but I also think it was good enough to give it one more try. I am hard to please in this area since I grew up in Texas and have spent my fair share of time south of the Mexico border...I can say it isn't exactly Tex-Mex and it IS closer to authentic food from Mexico. Atmosphere & Service: I walked up to the counter, and nobody was there. A man eventually came out of the kitchen, and took something outside without acknowledging I was standing there. After he came in he took my order. He was not particularly friendly and did not seem to really want to be there. He was friendlier to someone who came in later who was obviously a local regular - so, maybe he just thought I was an interloper? Too bad as I now live walking distance from the place...his demeanor left me feeling uneasy. He told me he would bring me my food - so I sat down at a booth inside as the few tables on the sidewalk outside were taken. The place was really bright and again - not inviting - but it is a quick place, not a place you go to linger over dinner anyway. When he brought out my food he gave me one napkin (one ply) folded over - you need to get more from the counter. It felt odd having your food delivered to your table, but then needing to get up to get napkins from a dispenser on the front counter. The Food: The nachos were good - although a mess - too many chips - it would have been better with fewer chips so the cheese actually hit more of them. The cheese seemed sparse. There was too much lettuce - the chips were buried beneath. The flavor though was nice. The salsa though is why I will be back - you can tell they just made it. It is delicious and fresh. It was a nice surprise. I am envisioning buying that by the pint and using it for a myriad of different personal recipes. I ordered also a chimichanga (chicken) - (and yes - this was WAY too much food!) which was not all I had hoped it to be...and let's face it - that isn't REALLY a MEXICAN thing as much as a Tex-Mex kind of thing (as, I admit, are nachos.) Anyway - I expected it to be crispy and it really wasn't and the sauce on top was not my favorite - not that it wasn't good, I just think I would have liked a different sauce better (and I would have asked about it - but it did not mention that there was a sauce on top in the description on the menu board...) - The chicken inside was o.k. - it seemed a little watery, but I ate it and it was fine - not fantastic - just fine. The rice did seem authentic to what I have had closer to the actual Mexico border - and when mixed with some of the aforementioned salsa was pretty good. I think perhaps the chimi would have been good with a tomatillo sauce instead - and I also expected some cheese inside, which if there was some, it was not apparent. I saw a sign on the door that indicated you can bring your own adult beverages - so keep that in mind - they do not sell beer/wine/cocktails if that is something you would like...but there is a liquor store nearby. So - the takeaway - worth a try, but I am not a fan...yet...stay tuned! read more

Good quality food, but terribly slow service. Meals came out one by one, after waiting 20 minutes for our order. Then, upon the final meal to be brought out, the waitress tells us that they ran out of that item - would have been good to know that 20 minutes prior. Overall, perhaps great for takeout but the in-restaurant service was abominable. :( read more

After reading such great reviews about El Huipil, we decided to give it a try. I got the chicken enchiladas with red sauce and it was great! Just the right amount of heat, not dried out, just really good. The rice comes fairly plain and is really good with the hot sauce. The prices are cheap (15.00 for a steak taco, chicken enchiladas plate and enchilada plate), the place is clean and nicely decorated, and the service was really fast! This just might be my new favorite spot for a quick eat in Maynard. read more

Quesadilla consists of a floppy, dry wrap with some dry chicken and lettuce, with no flavor or sauce. I had the equally awful mole the other time. I am so happy that this cute little place opened up! I came here with my husband and kids for a quick bite before catching a movie at the Fine Arts. The staff was quite sweet and attentive and the food was reasonably priced and yummy. The decor is minimal, but it's cute, clean and bright. If you eat there, order the flan for dessert. Order several, actually. Pretty amazing with a fresh cup of coffee. I look forward to visiting again next time we catch a movie in Maynard. read more

I am not a local person although I do work in Maynard and surrounding towns quite often and with the chance we visit Alanzo I will be honest if you order what your favorite is alanzo will make it and make it perfect there has been a few speed bumps in the road "remember I've been going there since basically day one long before the bar etc etc" and I can honestly say yes sometimes it's a miss but if you hit it when alanzo is there you will be more than satisfied he's not only a great guy he's a hell of a chef ask for your favorite he will deliver it with true chef experience. Also Tracy is a great waitress very personable all in all 5 stars for about 5 years of enjoying there great lunches and homemade salsa and hot sauce.... great people great food you will not be hungry or disappointed read more

Been going here since it opened. Keeps getting better and better. The huevos rancheros (available on the weekend only) are an absolute must try. It's a giant plateful of flavor. Eggs on top of a crispy tortilla with a delicious chipotle sauce, avocado slices, queijo fresca, rice and beans. Delicious! The new shrimp tacos are great too. Update: I'm knocking this down a star because, as others have noted, the burritos are bland. Could really use some spice: jalapeños, cilantro, lime, etc. to improve. Went there with my wife for lunch and was very disappointed. When we went in, there was no one else in the restaurant, which was very strange. The waitress was very unfriendly. The salsa was actually pretty good, although watery toward the end. I order the Super Burrito with chicken and my wife the chicken tacos. My burrito arrived in aluminum foil as if takeout. Both the burrito and tacos had little flavor. Chipotle much, much better. The chicken in my burrito was chopped so small, it was virtually tasteless. There was no hot sauce on the table. Is this a Mexican restaurant? Since our waitress never checked back with us to see if the food was ok, my wife had to get up and go to the front counter and ask for some. This place is pretty good Mexican for Maynard. That said I find there Burritos to be bland they need to kick it up notch! Also the name is hard to pronounce and difficult to understand. It means a some sort of formal Mexican Dress. I would kick up the flavor and change the name to something easy for people to pick up.
