I've been here countless times, it's always a great experience in terms of food, drink, atmosphere and good service. My favorite is the bacon wrapped dates, but everything is good, the lamb chops, the duck, octopus, chorizo. I wouldn't drink it anymore, but it's the first time I've seen Kalimoxo on any menu in the US... brings me back to when I was in high school in the Basque Country of Spain. I had a birthday party in the back room and that was a highlight, everyone who attended said we should all take turns hosting events there. The restaurant staff was very laid back about it in a good way, a few weeks in advance we just sort of asked if we could reserve it and then came up with a menu of things to bring out and drinks to have available and it worked out and was one of my best birthdays I can remember. We played our own music on a speaker we bright in, very chill and fun. Some nights they have live music and that has been fun as well. I'd recommend for a date night, girl's night, or a party like a birthday (adults only), office going away, small baby or bridal shower. Probably not the place for a business meeting. While seeming very promising, our experience here overall fell a bit flat in my opinion. We came with a reservation for 3 and got seated quite quickly, but we came pretty early for dinner so there were plenty of seats open around us. Despite this, we got sat at a pretty awkward table - very long and it made things difficult for sharing unfortunately. The menu had a good mix of dishes, all of which came out as soon as they were made. The paella came out last and took quite a long time - we were already pretty much full from our other dishes so just keep that in mind if you order it. Most of the dishes were lackluster - my favorite though was the eggplant, I enjoyed that the most. Everything else was small and not super flavorful. Paella was yummy, but pretty expensive for the portion. Overall, I probably wouldn't come back out of my own volition, but I didn't mind the food - I just don't think the price and quantity/quality of food matched. read more

Valentine's Day dinner was very good. The food was excellent. I have to nit pick to find any flaws, the bottom of the paella pan did not have a crust. The Sangria was very good, it was not too sweet and drank way too easily. The pistachios made for a great beet salad. We asked to be moved to a quieter spot a from right in front of the music, which was live and very good, which they were quick to accommodate. We will definitely be going back! read more

It is a sad day when a restaurant falls out of grace so hard it shatters when it hits the floor. Definitely NOT the 2021 experience... I've been back a couple of times since, and refrained from posting because I thought it was "just a bad cycle". But NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. This is a humpty dumpty story that will not have a good ending if the owners and the kitchen don't turn the tide around. I am a Tapas fanatic. And I expect GOOD tapas when the craving hit. Should have driven into Boston or Wellesley... but no, I decided to stay local. The highs? THE STAFF. Taylor, our bartender was a nonstop drink producer with an attitude that sings with angels. LOVELY. Good drinks too. She was shipping those puppies out non-stop. And that is where the love affair ends. Food: S L O P P Y. REALLY SLOPPY. SERIOUSLY - the bread on the pre-made cheap meat sliders was... STALE. Hard. Dry. ALL the tapas came out at once, and placed on a hobbit sized table. I thought our server was going to die of embarassment, and yet she made all types of excuses for the kitchen sending out COLD hot tapas ALL AT ONCE. And I am writing off their potato-based croquettas. Don't get me wrong, I like portuguese-style croquettas. BUT PLEASE SAY SO. Given the regions of wines, for those of us who understand the creamy-bechamel heart of a croqueta that melts-in-your-mouth, these just don't cut it. The 4 prawns were good but that's where other things end. COLD and greasy empanadas, cold and greasy berenjenas with hardly a whisp of the goat cheese, stale-bread sliders... seriously. The charcuterie plate? Lacks meat, and the cheeses are cut in thick chunks and sloppily thrown together. It is such a cute little restaurant, with sidewalk seating and a rum bar (guess the owner found a reason to write-off a vice with complete disrespect to the FOOD). I'll be moving out of my beloved Hudson in another year. I don't know if I will be back to Azucar. They don't deserve the business. I feel bad for the staff, but the food is not as adorable as the people. What happened to you? read more

There's a lot of good variety here, not only with your food and drink options, but also your choices of seating. There's a cozy, warm, friendly, feel here, and that's also reflected in the service you receive. We stuck with sangria for our dinner here. They make both a red and a white, we had both, and I think they make them to order as each carafe tasted slightly different (which I consider a good thing). The cocktail menu looks interesting too. The tapas menu seems pretty standard but interesting. The charcuterie board is an excellent start for a party of 4. I found the sauces to be flavorful, particularly for the lamb meatballs and the garlic shrimp, and I was glad we got bread with which to sop it up! The pleasant surprise for me were the bacon wrapped dates. If I had to complain about anything, I would have liked the brussels sprouts to be a bit crisper. But all-around, this is a place I would enjoy visiting and would want to sample everything on the menu. read more

We happened to be in Maynard and stumbled onto this gem of a place. We stopped in because of the yelp reviews and we were not disappointed. The service was attentive and fast. The food for the most part was excellent. We really liked the tapas, especially garlic shrimp, the duck, the lamb chops, the calamari and the octopus. Our son really liked the mini burgers. We also tried a few other dishes like Del Mar Paellas, Brussel sprouts, etc. But they were just ok. They were all well prepared, but just not how we are used to them either because of different spice or texture. We will definitely be back. read more

Duck and scallop/shrimp skewers were slightly larger portions. Don't expect to feel full dining here unless you spend $$$. Our waitress was not as attentive given that we were there late and there were only a few tables dining. I wanted to like this place, have tried a few times since they opened but just do not feel satisfied each time. We need a restaurant like this in this community. Went for mother's day, and they clearly over-booked given their kitchen resources. We waited over an hour to get anything other than water. The waitress did her best and even comped us some dessert, but it definitely put a damper on the evening. As for the food, most of it was very good. The mini-burgers and garlic spinach were our favorites. Garlic shrimp and frittata were good too. Tge chicken ka-bobs were pretty plain and boring. Great date spot! My girlfriend and I went here last week and really enjoyed the whole experience. The restaurant is cosy and has a great ambiance. Our waitress, Adriana, was really sweet and helpful, as was the hostess and other staff. The tapas are delicious- we tried the mussels, ceviche, hamburguesas, duck and fried calamari- everything was delicious. Our favorites were the mini hamburgers and the mussels. I want to star out by saying that I'm very disappointed to write a bad review of this restaurant because I was hoping to like it and I'm sure they are a business that's just trying to stay in business..... I'll start out by saying that the atmosphere was great and definitely the best part of this restaurant. I would give it a 4.5/5. I can't say this about any other aspect of my dining experience here. The drink menu is disappointing and lacks variety of Spanish drinks. The beer selection is minimalistic/ very limited with no interesting choices. There are no after dinner drinks on the menu.... Now about the food quality. In comparison to other Tapas restaurants I've been to in Boston, this was highly disappointing. I will say the food was ok but lacked the intense flavors I usually encountered at other Tapas restaurants. First, I'll mention the Hamon Serrano, which there was no way that was Hamon Serrano. It was Italian Prosciutto. The two are very different even though they are both ham. The calamari seemed to be the previously frozen circles that were freshly deep fried for us. The pulpo asado was good and probably my favorite dish here but not worth going back for. The Valencia steak was ok as was the Lomito Al Cabrelas but although these were good, in comparison to other Tapas restaurants they lacked the combination of intense flavors that I always find at quality Tapaa restaurants. My wife really enjoyed the Hongos al Ajilo and thought they were good. For dessert I had the perra Borracha which I thought was really good and something that I would get again if I went back.... (Which I won't). Overall, I was fairly disappointed and have no desire to return..... read more

I wasn't really sure what to expect when I came here. I'd just moved to the area and was looking for a special place for my birthday dinner. My husband and I came here and were floored by the food. Each tapas we had was unique, flavorful, and certainly could not get this food elsewhere. We got ceviche, plato mixo, molletes grilled toast, mini beef burgers, a lamb skewer, and lots of drinks. My favorite hands down was the ceviche but that's not to say the others were bad. They were all stellar but the ceviche was at a whole other level. My husband was unwilling to try so lucky me, I got the whole thing! Service was great, atmosphere was intimate, and the food and drinks were flowing. Absolutely incredible! We went for the first time last night and ordered 8 dishes between the 3 of us (we should have gotten maybe 6/7 then ordered a few more as it was a huge amount of food). Everything was so good we didn't have a single dish we didn't like and we got a pretty wide swath of things. Particular favorites were the papas bravas, brussel sprouts, queso rebozado and the albondigas de cordero (ask for extra toast with this one, the sauce is amazing and you'll want the toast to mop it all up). Drinks were also excellent. Good selection of wines and beers and the bar tender made me a delightful mocktail. Without question will be back and the atmosphere was lovely with being casual enough to grab dinner on a weeknight but fancy enough to do a date night on a weekend. read more

We were really surprised at how cool Azucar is, and more importantly how good the food is. You can't replicate or find anything close in our suburbs. We have only been twice, but are already planning to be regulars. The food is great, the service totally works, and the atmosphere, outside and in, is comfortable. They have put a ton of work in to make it right. You will be surprised! We were pleasantly surprised for sure. The town of Maynard is unexpectedly hospitable to the restaurants, and very flexible on its support of the local businesses. Had dinner here last night. Our server had no idea what was on tap or that I had just ordered a drink from her 5 minutes prior. The food was ok. Nothing was great but I don't recommend the lamb chops as they were so over cooked it was not worth $17. I asked the runner to replace our plates because they were chipped. He proceeded to put them on another table. I stopped him and said "you can't use those anymore" he told me the owners wouldn't get new ones - too cheap he told me. No paper towels in the bathroom. Aside from the food being just ok the sanitary standards are well below par and that doesn't seem to bother anyone. The three people (hosts?) laying around in the entry way didn't seem to be bothered. Finally, hours on Saturday's are posted as open until 11pm but the table next to us was given last call at 9:45pm. My husband and I came here for our second time eating out since covid. They seated us promptly when we arrived for our reservation. There were a lot of outdoor seating options out front and on the side road. We started with tapas: the cod croquettes (good, but tasted like tuna?), the beef empanadillas (very tasty), the brussel sprouts (flavored nicely, though soggy), and the lamb meatballs with mint sauce (pretty good). The traditional paella was kind of dry, and the mussels were very funky. But the shrimp, chicken and rice in the mix were flavored well. The sangria was good and had a nice variety of fruit in it. Service was attentive and overall the vibe of the outdoor seating area was relaxed and fun! We will come back soon. read more

What a wonderful addition to downtown Maynard! This cozy spot serves delicious tapas and cocktails in a fun & lively atmosphere and the service is spot-on. My friends and I enjoyed their vegetarian empanadillas, a big bowl of mussels with plenty of toasted, olive oil-drenched bread for dipping, a big platter of cold cheeses, olives and meats and their house ceviche, all washed down with many glasses of good red wine. WOW! What an incredible little spot. I came here with family after hearing their rave reviews. Was warmly greeted upon entering and shown to a cozy table. Live music is always a plus, and it was especially lovely for the atmosphere. The rooms are small but not cramped, and the decor is pretty authentic. First huge plus for Azucar - tinto de verano on the menu! This is my favorite beverage and it's impossible to find at an American bar, so I usually only have it at home. It's a bit more sour than typical tinto de verano but still excellent. We ordered the aceitunas (olives), chorizo a la plancha (grilled chorizo), tortilla (potato frittata), and pulpo asado (octopus). Everything was plated beautifully and was absolutely delicious. The portions are much bigger than I'd expected, considering it's billed a tapas bar, but are not ~too~ much and are definitely conducive to a shared meal. The octopus in particular was phenomenal, with a really flavorful "fatty" skin and almost chicken-like meat texture, plus the flawless seasoning. I was most disappointed by the tortilla, ALTHOUGH it was delicious, it was just not like I remembered tortilla I've had in Spain. But still delicious! We also had the pera borracha (drunken pear) for dessert, which honestly could be the only thing I ever eat for the rest of my life, it was that good. What I missed was a Spanish beer option - Estrella, Cruzcampo, etc. That would have made the evening perfect. My mom ordered the Devil's Margarita Martini for a nightcap - really delicious sangria margarita, served in a coupe glass. My advice for new customers - order one or two plates to share at a time. Tapas are meant to be enjoyed over the course of an evening, with several rounds of drinks! Some of the tables are rather small as well, so it helps with space to parse out your orders as well. Service was great and our waitress was very good. Food was good. I had better, but nothing we ordered was bad. Price was very high though. It cost $200 ($170 + $30 tip) for my wife and me (2 People). We probably will not go back because i think the price is a little high for what they give you. There are some other restaurants in the area that offer very good food and the bill comes in 25% - 50% less. I thought there was music on Saturday night, but nothing when we visited the restaurant. Having a live performance may have made up for the high cost. read more
