Awesome lunch spot in Sayulita! Found it from the great reviews on trip advisor and it surpassed our expectations. My friends and I began with an itacate to share which is essentially a taco made of a cheese tortilla. We shared an itacate with veggies inside as well as a bowl of queso, and ordered 1 taco each. The restaurant puts a variety of dips on the table so all tacos come simple (e.g., just chicken and tortilla) because you have an assortment of toppings on the table - 3 salsas, beans, spicy onions, cilantro onions, and grilled onions. Among my group we got the fish, octopus, chicken and shrimp tacos and all were perfect. I'm not from Mexico, but the meal felt like the most authentic taco spot of my trip! read more

This restaurant has a very busy crowd outside. Easy to find. The kids were able to order the tacos to Their individual taste. The sauces and topping for the tacos were delicious and covered all thee bases. Not a spicy person myself, but hubs tried the spicy sauce and was dripping sweat while eating. If you don't want to treat yourself in Sayulita you should consider El Itacate. You may be sitting at a table in the street that tilts but have a beer or one of their incredible juice concoctions and you won't care. Their Itacate wraps are an original item that remind me of something I might find at an Indian restaurant except with Mexican flavors. They are crispy, juicy and tastily sublime. I normally steer clear of green peppers in anything because they give me heartburn but but their's passed through without a twinge. read more

Super good! Amazing variety and huge portions, don't be fooled into thinking these are street taco size. We ordered too many, but they're pretty affordable with great cuts of meat! YOU MUST try the itacate's - basically a fajita burrito with a fried cheese tortilla crust - I've never had anything like it, was by far the best thing we ordered (we got Pollo) and it was all good. These tacos are one of the best in Mexico. The portion sizes are very generous, the meat is nicely tender and grilled. The salsas are fantastic and the agua fresca is delicious. We tried the sirloin taco, the carnitas (our favorite), the octopus taco, and the chorizo taco. Make sure you get their jamaica/strawberry water. Some of the best tacos I've ever had in my life! They load the tortillas with so much meat you can hardly fold them and eat them. They even have a bunch of vegan options which are just as good. Try the exotic flavored waters they have. Basil-lemon, I know, it sounds kinda crazy but it's really good and refreshing especially if you've been out in the sun the whole day. This busy restaurant is on one of the busy main streets with streetside tables. They have a nice selection of sauces and sides they bring with every order. My friends got the steak tacos and felt that the arrachera ones were the best. The filet ones were not as flavorful and bland. I tried the mahi-mahi taco and it was good. I tried the carrot taco and it was too spicy for me. The Agua Fresca was good but a small glass only. Their portion of Agua Fresca used to be larger. Overall would recommend for steak tacos but there are better places for fish and veggie tacos in town. read more

Loved loved this spot. There is outdoor seating with only a few tables (but wait wasn't bad)! With a party of six, averaging one to two orders of tacos per person and the total was under $40 USD. We were all full and satisfied with the cost, taste, and service by the end of it. Staff are friendly and speak English. I ordered the arrachera (skirt steak) and chuleta (pork/ham) tacos- both delicious but personally don't like ham so would not order that again. Shrimp tacos were also good. We ordered pollo empanizado, which is breaded chicken tacos. After ordering we were treated to an assortment of salsas, limes among other toppings. The portion of meat you're given per taco is enough to make another whole taco. My girlfriend ordered 1 taco and managed to split it into 2. Compared to a typical mexican street taco, you're given twice the meat. While I still prefer lechon tacos out of Aguascalientes, these are hard to beat. read more

The most delicious find! There's a tiny spiral staircase to a rooftop seating area. Super authentic and unique! Try the Itacate burrito. We hiked Monkey Mountain and came down into Sayulita for lunch (staying in Punta de Mita). We were really hungry so we stopped at El Itacate as it came recommended by our tour guide. I didn't ask if the whole place was gluten free, but the tacos and salsas they brought out were. We are also vegan and they had two options. A spicy shredded carrot taco and a hearty marinated mushroom taco. We ordered two of each and all tacos come with two tortillas so with the generous extra fixings delivered to the table it was more like four tacos each. The tacos were super good and the meal was very cheap I think 180 pesos for four tacos. Then we wandered around Sayulita for an hour or so and needed to use a bathroom. We didn't see any public restrooms we went back to El Itacate to see it it was ok if we used theirs having eaten there an hour before. They were totally cool about it. Very friendly guys. read more

Food was incredible! We were only in Sayulita for 2 nights and we came here 3 times!!! We loved the salsa tray that came with beans and grilled onions. Omg. I am a chef of 25 years and have to say this place blows me away. Super simple dishes with excellent flavor. The salsas are all fantastic and prepared lovingly. Vegan dishes amazing! I had a perfectly cooked nopales seasoned perfect , so simple but delightful. The tacos are amazing and very filling 1 is enough but I ate all the sides too because it was just so worth it. My absolute favorite part of the meal is the most amazing little bundles of onion that are wrapped in foil and cooked slowly on there grill. I think these bundles come with everything but this simple item blew me away and I can honestly say it was the best dam onion I have ever tasted, unforgettable. Imagine melting hella cheese...dunno what kine but it's great...so melt the cheese on a griddle, let it harden/crisp up and flip to the other side like a crepe, then use that as your tortilla to wrap your burrito! Well that's what an "itacate" is. And they use tons of steak in your burrito! Big slices! It's pretty greasy af, but so good! Had this along side a couple tacos. Had to try this place out after seeing the constant number of people coming and going. They were out of carnitas and a number of other options, so I went with some Asada and Camerones. The shrimp taco was amazing. The asada somewhat dry and lacking flavor. These tacos were PACKED with fillings. I ordered three but likely only needed two. The service was friendly but the order took quite awhile to get. The server packed me up salsas to go and give me a great to go experience, except for the wait. read more

The food is amazing!! Staff is okay. First time we went by, they told us to come back at a certain time to eat, but when we returned we still waited a long time for them to open (20+ minutes after already waiting 40 minutes). The hibiscus quesadillas were amazing and I wanted to eat here again; but the same thing kept happening (not open, come by later, still not open an hour or two after the initial attempt to eat). This was off season but all the surrounding places were open and doing business. I would recommend eating here, the food is amazing, but I would wait until you see other people eating there or you might be waiting a long time. This place will have you swimming in Queso, which is delicious. But the real secret is the medium salsa. It's some of the best I've ever had, I drowned everything in it.
