Quite literally in the middle of the street, this stall has carved out a small oasis. An old man with an accordion plays his soul out, sorrow echoing off the buildings, while a family of five clings to an off road ATV to pick up dinner. The kids' eyes widen as the elderly lady at the griddle passes them a hunk of juicy pineapple for the ride home. I was honored to be greeted with a genuine smile and felt welcome in this little universe. Sitting there, I realized I was witnessing a slice of intimacy with the locals that most travelers never touch. Half a dozen salsas in mismatched tubs of varying sizes power this taco stand. The hunks of pastor are heavily marinated, lightly perfumed with clove and cinnamon, delicious on their own. There is no Trompo spinning the meat, there is no theater to the preparation.. just the sound of the griddle sizzling up plump morsels. And the avocado jalapeño salsa... I would eat wet cardboard with that, it is that good. The ripe pineapple ties the whole symphony together like a cherry on a sundae. If there is a place of zen in the taco world, I found it. A fleeting experience that left me with a lasting memory of one of the great dining moments of my spoiled privileged life. This is not just tacos. This is transcendence. read more

So great. We came here on a taco food tour and these were my favorite in the area. I got the mixto, which was a mix of carne asada and chorizo. And dang was it good! The chorizo in particular was out of this world, and the salsas were a glorious addition atop the tacos. The seating area is really nice, right on the street. I would definitely come here again. read more

Fast, friendly service. My wife & I had two asada quesadillas, asada taco, & 4 al pastor tacos, & ice cold modelo especial. Nice little piece of pineapple on the al pastors. A little frijoles, grilled onions con queso for on fresh flour tortillas. Plenty of limes, cucumbers, & 5 different sauces. Excellent ambiance in the shade. A block from Los Muertos pier. Recommended by an ex-pat friend of mine. Their chorizo is so good! It's crispy and so flavorful. Great in a taco or quesadilla. It's hard for me to stray and get anything else because the chorizo is that good here. Always a must stop at least a couple times when I'm in PV. Reasonable prices and even better than many of the taco restaurants (or other taco street vendors). read more

This is the best taco stand we have ever been to. This our go to place for lunch when in Puerto Vallarta. The tacos are our mainstay meal, however the asada quesadillas are especially good. For two of us it is around 200 pesos. read more

This is one of the original taco stands in the Emiliano Zapata area, and I doubt they have ever changed one bit. And that is a good thing. Super tasty carne asada tacos in pure form and no-frills. Great meat, excellent sauces, and good toppings. This is a must-visit when in the area. The family has been here a long time and does what they do, providing you with a basic and genuine morning/lunch taco that is great. Now it is only outside shaded seating, located just a few hundred feet from the beach. read more

THE BEST!!!! Don't pass this stand by. On my recent trip to Puerto Vallarta I ate here a half a dozen times. Friendly service, great prices, awesome food! Two quesadillas with meat, beans, grilled onions, cabbage and salsa were 80 pesos, which is roughly around five dollars American exchange. It is definitely bookmarked in my notes as my go to place the next time I'm in town. read more

If you are looking for real human interaction and Amazing food, this is the place to be. I used to come everyday in 2018 and when I came here in 2020 , before I said anything, they announced my usual order. I most cried. Best tacos in town and we've been all over. They are so underrated. The cooks melt the cheese in between tortillas and their condiments are always so fresh. The meat is always the most important part and it's juice and flavorful. The best part is you're not waiting for hours in a long line like the big name restaurant around the corner. read more

We took a cruise through the Panama Canal and our last stop was Puerto Vallarta. We did not plan to eat a "meal" and ate on the ship before hand, but saw a tasting group at this stand and figured why not, let's give em a try. We ordered a machaca taco and asada taco. In USD they were just $1 each, pretty much a steal as the cheapest I have found in Los Angeles is $1.25. They had big piles of meat on the grills and tortillas being nicely toasted, so everything definitely looked delicious. But the flavors were nowhere near what I hoped or expected to be. They were bland, boring, and had no "spark" to them that I had hoped for. A few years back we went to Ensenada on a cruise as well and had some of the best tacos ever in Mexico. These, however, tasted like a mediocre taco truck in LA. I wish we tried more stands to compare but these tacos on their own aren't worth the appetite. read more

What a nice find! This is the kind of place where they verbally tell you what's on the menu, which is only a few items. These tacos are done right. Delicious and filling and the price is right. Great smiles and clean outside tables. I had 4 pastor tacos and a Pacifico and it was 40 pesos. The salsa's were very tasty as well, the spicy ones are very spicy, be warned. Enjoy! read more

One of the best taco stands I've found in the area. It is family run and extremely friendly service. tacos were only 1.50$ and I was full off 2. Extremely fresh, served HOT and flavorful juicy meats. Authentic tacos with a wide variety of self serve salsa options. You can see them prepping the meat and how fresh it is! The line right around the corner at ponchos is always way too long so I tried this and very glad I did!! My favorite part was the fresh perfectly grilled and seasons onions that were added to the tacos! The Quesadillas looked great too but I was too full to try! read more

Great tacos, cooked in a more non traditional way than other street vendors. The server was telling us they serve them a bit different as well, with cabbage, onions, and cilantro. We ordered their quesadillas and a bunch of tacos. We ended up having a ton of food with a small bill. If you're on a taco tasting adventure in PV, I'd stop in to give them a try. read more

This is one of my favorite street tacos in PV. It is simple honest to goodness flavor and it is really reasonable. Friendly owner and staff as well. It's easy to order and quick. There are many assortments of meats...they don't cater to vegans or vegetarians...sorry. Don't forget to pair your meals with sodas. I love the Coke in Mexico because they don't use corn syrup . Can't wait to go back to PV and feast on these tacos in my afternoon walk. read more

If I could give this place 50 stars I would. I was a little skeptical when we first got to Puerto Vallarta because I have a horrible stomach at home so I wasn't quite sure but every time I pass by it was stuffed with people chowing down on delicious looking tacos sauces and quesadillas. We got the carne asada beef quesadilla 's with grilled onions, lime and cliantro. They also have basic smaller tacos with no cheese in pork or beef. This place we were told has been here 49 years. BEST FOOD IN PUERTA VALLARTA. Skip the big places by the beach and eat here. We got 4 quesadillas ( they are the same size as tacos in the states) a 7up and a corona for 175 pesos (10 bucks US. We cant wait for lunch tomorrow to go again. read more

Ended up at this place during a food and booze tour. Then we had so much fun with these guys we went back again and again!! Remi, Arvey, Max, and Malene (sorry if I spelled that wrong) were so much fun! They always went above and beyond to get us what we wanted! They were nice enough to give me a few Spanish lessons while I was there!! The tacos were delicious and I am dying to have more of that hot hot sauce!! Make sure you try the orange one! We never could remember the name of this place so we coined it Johnny's Tacos this year because it's my husband favorite taco stand. Don't just take my word on this. Everyone we talked to that had eaten here had nothing but good things to say. That includes us. Two delicious beef tacos and a sweet fruity homemade drink 90 pesos. Tacos served on on a plastic plate that's covered with a plastic bag (so they can re-use the plate, can't get more authentic). One street north of San Marino hotel just up from the pier (and Oxxo haha, they're everywhere) read more

Great taco spot! Tried the pastor and the meat (chorizo and steak) tacos. Both were super delicious. They have buckets full of sauces for you to top off the tacos with as well, everything from mild to spicy plus some guac. They also have a little seating area which was nice. I would definitely go back! read more

Great location. Right next to a flower garden. Great service with good music... (Bad Bunny on the background) let's talk about the tacos... I just say best in Puerto Vallarta. The first visit was fine so we went a second time. On our second visit, my husband asked about the pizzas and was told they weren't available. The courtyard in back does seem to have a new pizza oven installed but the wood sat beneath it unused. It wasn't working on our first visit either but we didn't ask about the pizza. If you are not going to fire up the pizza oven, at least advertise you do on Friday, Saturday and Sundays or whenever it is you do operate it. We seemed to be the first to arrive on our second visit. As we had hoped, two elderly ladies were seated and three songs into their visit Cardi B also arrived to sing "WAP". We were not certain if they were listening to each songs lyrics but they did sway back and forth in their chairs in tempo to the beat. That was fun. I wanted the chicken fajitas and the waitress returned to indicate they had no chicken. I was not sure if this was some Mexican version of the U.S. version of dealing with shortages in baby formula. I glanced toward the pizza oven and switched my fajita order to flank steak. They must have been sorry about the missing chicken and gave me a serving that would feed two. I asked for three extra tortillas and had the remainder boxed up as I wanted to pass it along to a hungry homeless person. Mission accomplished.

You have to pluck a third of the meat with your fingers just to get the tortilla to structurally hold. There is always a line. On a random Tuesday it stretched down the street long before the door opened. I waited twenty five minutes at four in the afternoon for a seat inside. No to go orders, no doggy bags. You eat what you order and leave behind your self respect. The dining room is packed tighter than a turtle's pecker. A dozen staff members move around each other like bees tending the hive, the rhythm wild and relentless. The tacos themselves are intimidatingly large, the vibe unlike anything I have ever seen. Come for the al pastor, and come hungry. If you cannot finish, no option exists but to weep over the abandoned morsels.

Our group picked this restaurant based on Yelp reviews for a large dinner with 8 pax. The owner was…read moresuper nice and accommodating, especially when a few un-expected guests joined us. He suggested a bunch of signature dishes that could be served family style so that we could more easily divide the bill but also make sure we all got to taste different things. Service was excellent. I am so sad to see this restaurant is closing. There were many more dishes we enjoyed, all excellent, that I cannot name because the menu is no longer available online. See pictures. Guacamole & Salsa: made right at the table side. Both dips and chips were super yummy so we ordered several refills. Duck Tacos: amazing. shredded duck meat on a blue corn tostado Shrimp Ceviche: amazing. Large portion, just overall great. I certainly hope the restaurant reopens sooner than Yelp indicates.

However, as me and my friends (it was 4 of us) were leaving the restaurant, our waiter chased us down claiming we did not tip enough. Here's a note from my friend detailing more of what happened: "It was 150 pesos which is a little more than 10% of the total. In Mexico, 10% is completely customary, especially for tourist. Locals will give even less and typically leave only about 50 pesos. I don't know if he was expecting for us to give him more just because we're used to giving 15 or even 20% at a time but I always do at least 10. If it's one of the really nice restaurants where they take care of absolutely everything then I do get more than that but this was just a normal place And I did fold the bills because I clipped it into the checkbook, so there is a chance he thought it was just 50. But to flip out and say it's not enough that he deserves more or just to take it away is crazy in my opinion." We may return, but this really turned a perfect visit into a not so great one in the end. The 3/5 is for food and service, would've been 5/5 had we not been stopped as we were leaving for not "tipping enough".
