They have this place decorated so nice for Christmas! The staff was insanely nice and talked through all the options with me and were great. I ended up trying the flautas and dipping them in queso. Used to love this restaurant. It was one of my favorite places to eat. Unfortunately that is not the case anymore. I ordered the Haskell special with shrimp. It was so salty I couldn't even force myself to eat more than a couple of bites. My husband ordered crispy beef tacos. The beef had way too much cumin flavor. The chips and salsa tasted good. The iced tea was fresh. When the waitress asked about the food, I mentioned that mine was too salty to eat. She didn't offer to have it remade or ask if I wanted something else. She just said I will let the cook know. Was not pleased with that response considering that I left the entire plate of food untouched except for a couple of bites. I ended up going to Sonic across the street afterwards because I was still hungry. Hopefully it was just an off day for the cook as usually the place is packed with patrons. read more

In town for nephews baseball game....and it was taco night at El Jalapeno! We had dinner here before the game. I love Mexican and this definitely hit the spot. The queso was super yummy and the salsa was stellar. I am a fan of medium salsa with full flavor and this had it! They do have a great variety on the menu. I heard about the awesome burgers they create...but on this trip I was there to dominate tacos! Our server did a marvelous job. Our drinks were never empty and her service with a smile was very appreciated. She and the kitchen staff should be commended. If in the area again we definitely will stop in. I had a chick soft taco (2) and 1 chicken crispy taco that I was super excited to eat. It was a great selection. The tacos were stuffed - well worth it. Get in here, eat and thank me later. The most bland Mexican I've had in my entire life. Taste like water with the smallest sprinkle of salt. Servers were nice. Ambiance is definitely lacking. Hands down the most trash Mexican food I've ever had. Would not recommend at all and will never eat here again. read more

Solid Mexican food in the small town of Haskell. If you live in or around Haskell you are well aware of the limited dining options. And you are probably aware that that this is a good average Mexican restaurant. If for some reason you are traveling through Haskell, this is a decent place to eat. Drop in have a burger or their Mexican food. I ordered carne asada, but somehow the waitress got confused and brought me carne asada tacos. Probably my fault, I think I got her a little flustered when I ordered a chili toreado and hotter salsa. She didn't know what a chili toreado was. The tacos were still very good though. We ordered a variety of menu items and they were all good. We got there at about 11:30 Sunday morning and by the time we left the place it was packed with customers waiting. read more

This place was hopping on a Thursday night! The mother daughter waitress team was taking care of the entire, full house. Personable service, even under pressure. Good food and great atmosphere for quick dinner and a tasty adult beverage. Glad I took the back roads home today and found this out of the way place. read more

Excellent service, was greeted right away by a young waitress named Ashley. She sat us and took our drink orders which came out real quick with three bowls of chips and salsa for seven of us. Very nice!! I've been to many Mexican restaurants in my life and one unique thing on the menu is their "white Queso". It's pretty stinkin' delicious ;) I ordered a wet burrito with steak and shrimp, was asked what type sauce I wanted on top and chose the green chili sauce. It's spicy but oh soo good! The salsa that comes with the chips is not spicy at all but the flavor is pretty decent. I asked for the extra spicy and it was real good. Parking was easy and it's set in an easy to find spot. read more

El Jalapeno is housed in a crumby looking building, but YUM the food is great! I find excuses to drive 30 minutes to Haskell just to eat at this little place. I am addicted to the PORK WET BURRITO (I do not care for the other wet burritos). Be warned, the wet burrito is enough for 2 people or at least 3 meals. There is room to improve, but I am a fan without a doubt. read more

El Jalapeño has a variety of food for many different tastes. They use local beef and you can taste the difference! The burgers are awesome! The chicken fajita nachos are AMAZING! Really good white queso. Wet burrito is huge and taste if you like rice ( I don't but my husband does). Fajitas are good too. I'm not that big of a fan of the chimi which is usually my fav but I'm a fan of so many other things. Taco salad with white queso and fajita chicken amazing! The tea is really good. Most the wait staff if really good now. Our favorite is Chelsea she is AWESOME! Great personality, customer service, and overall great waitress. Monday's and Tuesday's and not good days to go. Food and waitstaff does not seem to be as good on those days. Weekends are the best if you want the best cook and waitstaff. Chicken fried steak was a 4.25 (on a 0-5 scale) good quality ground meat good breading fake potatoes and canned corn with big portions. You will not be disappointed with the portions here! The prices are reasonable too! The building is old, so if you eat out for the atmosphere you will be disappointed, if you eat out for the food you will be happy with your experience. The front room is LOUD! Even if there is just 1 or 2 families in there so keep that in mind when they seat you if you have issues with sound. read more

When you live out in the country, it's sometimes hard to find a decent restaurant. El Jalapeno, while not the most authentic Mexican restaurant I've been to (grew up in San Diego, CA), is a great, quick lunch or dinner spot. Their beef (ground) is loaded with oregano and gives off a great taste. I now use a good deal of oregano when making tacos at home. Their tamales and chiles rellano are outstanding...a good judge of any Mexican restaurant. read more

I love Mexican food. Its one of my favorite foods. If it wasnt for Italian it would be my number one...HOWEVER, this place is just GROSS. Haskell is a small country town, and I believe this is the only sit down restaurant in town, so my family and I gave it try. We were so exicted to eat. WHAT A MISTAKE. This place was SO dirty, service was slow...mentally and physically. Food was medicore at its best. When we got home we literally felt sick. One of the WORST restaurants EVER. A year ago I would have given this place 4 or 5 stars easily but it has really went downhill lately. Instead of shredded beef, they have started using ground and their queso has gotten extremly watery. Authenic mexican food. No fuss no frills just good service, good prices and awesome food. If you don't eat it spicy be sure and ask if it is 'calente?' I ordered something I couldn't eat and had to reorder my meal. It came very quickly and they didn't want to charge us for the dish I was unable to eat so my husband split the price of the dish with them. It appears to be a family owned and operated business. You can here the people in the kitchen talking and they are not speaking english. read more
