My wife discovered this food truck on our way to Schofield and decided to eat here on the return home. It's easily accessible provided you find the right turn and not busy. They have a tent area with benches near the truck to sit and wait, or enjoy your food. I ordered the California Burrito which came as a massive burrito. One of those OMG moments when I opened the foil to see it was huge. I started to get excited thinking about this steak burrito only to discover it was a let down. There had to be a whole bag of cold, shredded cheese in this burrito, mixed with french fries, steak, and whatever else. I thought the french fries were on the side, not in the burrito so this was a surprise, not terribly bad but unexpected. It was the crazy amount of cheese which ruined it for me. It was like eating cheese primarily. I told my wife that I'd rather eat a smaller, quality burrito than this. I didn't even finish it because it was too much...cheese. I do like cheese, but not that much. My wife did try a taco plate and said they were delicious. I believe there were three mini tacos. Given her review of the tacos, we'd likely stop for tacos but I'm not sure we would try the burrito again. read more

As someone who lived in SD for a few years I'm always looking for good Mexican. This place has amazing birria tacos that are tasty, filled with meat, and super fresh. I've come on random days and sometimes they still have these even if it's not the normal birria days. The staff are super nice and the location is right off the road so you can pull in park, order, and enjoy the food. They also have a bench or two if you want to sit there and eat, not a bad setting or location. There's also an interesting pond near by as well. My husband and I were tasked to pass out flyers to reach out to the Latino community. I looked up Mexican restaurants near me on Yelp and el jalisciense came up. I decided to go and get some Tacos on the way. I ordered a magonada and three tacos de carne. The owner Luis was very nice and he gave us a mango with Chile for free! It was the last one so they must sell a lot. I am not surprised they sell out it was so deliciously sweet and with the Chile peer added some extra flavor. Muchas gracias Luis! read more

I discovered what tortas were in college when a friend from california asked me to bring them back to campus on my weekend trips to NYC, and in the process I've developed a taste for them as well. Unlike most sandwiches you'd find in 7/11, these have a lot of stuff in them--lettuce, meat, cheese, sometimes beans, avocado, jalapeno etc. Like yakisoba sandwiches, they're a lot and I often feel gross and oily when I'm finished eating--but no complaints. I passed by this truck on a drive to Haleiwa, and fortunately saw the truck still open on the way back. The parking was a bit confusing--we turned into a back street then had to make a u turn and drive around a building and park kind of by the truck behind a temple or something (sorry--can't help you on where to park). Prices weren't bad for mexican food in hawaii and I love the idea of food trucks generally. I got a carnitas torta with everything, spicy. The pork was crisp, fatty and moist, balanced just a little by crisp lettuce and tomato. The crisp, thick bread soaked up the juices from the pork and peppers, mixed with the cheese and onions. Yum. I also got a cup of esquites for my little brother, and ended up eating all but two spoonfuls during the drive home. The workers gave me a cup of some kind of cucumber lime juice while I was waiting and that was wonderful. Thanks to them for that. Although it's quite a drive, I hope when I get better at driving I can make it back for another torta soon. read more

Lakeside Tacos Sounds good right? Ive passed by this truck at least a dozen times and today was its lucky day. Ive never seen a line here, that alone should caution any adventurous foodie but I had to find out if this lonesome truck sitting by the lake was something special. Hidden off a hard to see driveway on Wilkina Drive, I traversed a narrow path behind a blue building only conspicuously marked with a letter "G." (Dont miss it or else a tricky long u turn all the way back!)I ordered a steak burrito (standard taste testing item for me and Mex food) and three tacos (its taco tuesday yo) each with diffrent meats for sampling (chicken, beef, and pork). Wanted the Tamarind drink but they were out, bummer. Service was nice, but too quick, which made me a bit worrisome on the outcome. Sadly, none of the tacos wowed me, all tasted the same and was made wayyy to fast for me to deem it made to order. The tacos were also a bit soggy which makes me feel bad about mentioning this truck was lakeside to "Lake Wilson" (reservoir, large pond, resovoir, or whatever its called lol). Burrito was better, good size but I did say mild to both orders, they ended up way too hot for my sister to enjoy. The burrito was packed but the meat and beans were a little hard. This is my go to place for birria tacos. Been to five different places specifically to see who has the best looking local version of birria and so far I have to say this is the place. The portion of meat is good. It was moist and flavorful. It's not overly greasy or dry as others. The consume is spot on each and every time. It's soo good that I end up drinking it. Top it off with a Jarrito fruit punch, which is made with with cane sugar, yet not sweet like the foundation punch or try their horchata. Service is also fast and very pleasant. Their wagon is conveniently located in Waikele Outlet parking lot and lots of parking. Give them a try. read more

Shrimp was awesome- big pieces and the avocado salsa on top is very flavorful. Pastor was ok. Carne asada could be better-It seemed like I got the end pieces or leftovers of the carne asada. Well worth the 20 minute drive from Ewa Beach. The spicy burritos were so good!!! We stopped by on our way to Turtle Beach from Waikiki. This had good ratings and we love Mexican food. We were not wrong with our choice. Don't be misled by the location of this food truck. Just before the Mason Lodge on Wilikina you will see a red trailer attached to an older Ford truck. I have been going here for the asada tortas for a few months. The tortas are really good and the bread is perfect. Get it with everything spicy. Today I was getting my wife a torta and the guy said they had beef birria. I haven't had birria for over 20 years since living in Los Angeles. My good friend from college's mom used to make it. One of my favorite Mexican things to eat. So I asked if I could sample, and he gave me a small salsa cup of it. I was immediately taken back to Cali. The beef is so tender and the soup is good enough by itself to fill up a hydro flask and sip it through a straw! I ordered a plate with rice and beans (cuz I wanted the soup). Gotta eat it with cilantro, lime and onions. They serve in a taco or burrito too. Brah!! This birria is action!! Only on Fridays. Highly highly recommend this place. read more

I took my family to the grand opening. We really love Mexican food and living in Hawaii there aren't to many places that serve delicious tasty mouth watering authentic Mexican food that would make you come back for more. My family and I was served with excellent fast service with a smile and very polite. Just standing their waiting for our order and smelling our food being cooked as we watched from outside the truck made me and my husband's mouth salivate with anticipation. I want to thank the men who worked that day for making our first experience awesome! We all went home full and satisfied but we also made sure we ordered more to go because the tacos were really delicious and I knew that when we get home I was going to want to eat more tacos lol oh yeah so good. My wife and I stopped in last night to give these guys a try. She had an Asada plate and a cup of Elotes and I had a torta with the Al Pastor. My sandwich was amazing. No other word for it. My wife reported that her food was delicious although she did feel a bit misled when she asked about the spicy salsa. After admitting that it was her own fault for taking the "it's not to crazy" answer at face value from a Mexican taco truck owner, she decided not to hold him accountable. THE BEST Mexican on the island for AUTHENTIC Mexican food. We tried every place on the island (I kid you not) If you're looking for authentic *not TexMex or Chipotle style, this is the place to go. Trust me. I drive over 25 miles for their food. Yup! Call me crazy. Haha! I've lived in California, Texas and Chicago. All with huge Mexican communities and cuisine. I've also traveled to Cabo, Puerto Vallarta, Rosarito, Tiajuana, Acapulco, etc. They have another location "El Jaliesciense" by the outlet mall, but we find the #2 location better and more consistent. If you go around lunch time they always have a line 15-20 deep. Their flavors are authentic and delicious. I've never had any issues with their carne asada, pastor, birria (beef), or shrimp. Their chicken is ok. IMO chicken is always drier here on island than the mainland and a little less flavorful in general. I order the tacos (street taco style here: cilantro & onions) and burritos (ask for less rice if you're not a fan) so I get the best of both worlds. Some people comment that there's not enough spice in their salsa. When looking at their photos they had the MILD salsa. Try upping it to the hot/spicy. It's a green salsa which is amazing. They also have a habanero one if you ask for it ;-) I eat raw habaneros so I like spicy :-) I ordered the fries once and it was ok. But in all honesty, I go there for Mexican food. Not American based Mexican food. Give this place a try if you're in the area. You won't be disappointed! Everyone we've mentioned this place to goes and loves it. It's even posted all over the military chat boards as my friend told me. Mayita's Grill is another place I'll go from time to time. If you want an idea of what flavor profile I prefer.
