I normally don't give reviews if it 3 stars or bellow but I feel that the next time I stop by this food truck (#3) rats will go up to 5 stars. And this is a different location then the one advertised. For me this is one of the new food truck on Joint Base Pearl Harbor Hickam. This is the one that replaced the steak truck behind the PACAF Headquarters building Parking lot. So The first time I visited the lunch truck,I got the three choice item - smoked Ribs, smoked chicken, pulled pork, Smoked beans and spicy Mac & cheese, with a small cup of BBQ Sauce. I thought that everything was pretty good except that the pulled pork didn't have that much flavor, portions was average to small and the side cup of BBQ sauce was a bit on the short side. The second time I brought a couple of my friends from work with me to try it again and get some second opinions but It was only 1130 when we arrived and found out that they sold out of all meats except for the pulled pork, Soooo we left. After going on their website seen that the owner is a veteran and we all need to support so ... I will stop by again and try to bring some coworkers again to see if can change this review from 2 to a 5 stars, but hope that they don't run out of food during peek lunch hour, now curious if the is a online discount is there a military/ veteran discount? A Ten Hut Now that I have your attention, as much as I would have loved to bring more news and score this BBQ a ten, this food truck fell way short of my expectations The ribs was rough and dry. I just wasn't feeling the passion in it. The sides wasn't anything special, possibly canned or very cost cutting insta pre mades. I wonder if there was a time when this place was in its prime, satisfying the heartiest of souls. My employer paid for Tin Hit BBQ to spend the entire day catering for our event. They were able to park their truck in our parking lot so I was thinking our food would be freshly bbq'd and made as we ordered it. However, their food "looked" good, but looks can be deceiving. I got Mac & Cheez and potato salad, beef brisket, and smoked bbq ribs. The Mac & cheez was really watery and not that cheesy. It had black charred crumbs in it, as if it was scooped with a grill spatula. The potato salad was different, and I guess everyone has their own version. The potatoes were extremely crunchy and not cooked well. Their version just tasted like mayo, relish, a little bit of egg, and uncooked potato. The brisket had no flavor, and ribs were dry with Harley any bbq sauce. A few of my coworkers got corn bread as their side choice, there was mold all over it! I DO NOT RECOMMEND this food truck for any event!! Our food was "free" paid for by our company. But even if it was free,I did not eat it. This is for the Pearl Highlands restaurant. I was waiting for them to open heard such great reviews at other locations. First grip was the brisket was shredded, I think of brisket as a slice of meat. It also was dry such a disappointment. The sausage was great, get it with the onions and peppers. The rib was so so kinda bland and chewy. Wow I usually are skeptical about eating at a BBQ place because usually the beef brisket is dry as heck! But I must say theirs are moist and the BBQ sauce is spicy and nice! Thought I'd try the food truck parked at Alii Place downtown. Should thought about it when there was no line. Ordered the brisket plate, mac & cheese and green beans with bacon $12. Just had the Pearl City Location Decided to try the new place in the food court and boy was that a mistake!! I'm from the south and the only thing on my plate that was remotely good was the ribs. The Mac and cheese tasted like yellow raw noodles (try baking it and adding some seasoning) the baked beans were okay.. had the apple pie for dessert and YUCK it was nearly FROZEN and seemed like it NEEDED to be baked before being served... overall I'll never eat here again but the ribs gave the two stars. Tin Hut was recently the food truck to pop up outside of Brewseum during trivia night so my boyfriend & I checked it out. Not sure of their normal location but this was by Ward area when I ran into them. The menu is pretty straight forward featuring 4 different meats: pulled pork, st louis style ribs, smoked chicken & beef brisket and 7 signature sides: smoked bbq beans, mac & cheese, spicy mac & cheese, white rice, pineapple coleslaw, potato salad & green beans with bacon/onion. You can choose a regular plate [$12] featuring one meat choice and 2 signature sides or for the same price, make it a Take Two and choose two meats. There is also a meat trio platter option [$14] if you're really indecisive. For the less hungry there is a lighter fare option [$8] with one meat and one side. They also offer two sandwiches [$10 - pulled pork or beef brisket] which can be made into a plate for $2 more. We decided to try a Take Two choosing pulled pork and brisket as our meats with mac & cheese and BBQ beans. We also got a side of spicy mac & cheez separately. They have containers of bbq sauce on the side you can squirt all over your food to your liking. I only took a little at first and we wound up going back to the truck to slather our meat in more. Both of the meats were cooked well, juicy and flavorful. The sauce was just a bonus. Only downfall was we felt like there wasn't enough brisket portion wise while the pork seemed like the right amount and the brisket was good. BBQ beans were actually on point, simple and old school type but perfect match. The mac and cheese was good; nothing to rave about but creamy, cheesy and again, good match with the bbq meats. The $3 side portion of spicy mac and cheese was excellent in size and delicious with bits of jalepenos throughout. Our food was tasty and the staff in the truck were friendly. While I understand BBQ isn't cheap, I do think the plate prices are a bit high for the portions but the sides are a fantastic deal. read more

I thought long and hard before deciding to write a review for Tin Hut BBQ. They are often on base where we live and their BBQ plates while a bit pricey are usually pretty good. I was looking for catering for my husband's retirement from the Navy. I was extremely clear in my conversations with Frank that I did not want to do anything. We were expecting 75 people that night in our backyard and I wanted Tin Hut to set up and break down. In my email to Frank I could not have been more specific and clear. 75 people. Want the brisket, pulled pork, BBQ chicken, mac and cheese and pineapple cole slaw. Done. I told Frank my husband was retiring after 35 years in the Navy and we were happy to hire a military vet to cater our party. A gal arrived on time to set up. I was making the rounds talking to our guests. When our family finally went up to the tables to get food there was no mac and cheese and no cole slaw. I had a friend who was helping out with the food tables and she said that those two items only served about a dozen people. I was horrified. How could this be? I said 75 people. We also had 2 small bottles of BBQ sauce that were gone quickly as well. I contacted Frank afterwards and told him that we did not have enough food for our 75 guests and his response was "Your order was what we delivered. What I should have done instead of assuming you were making other simple sides was to let you know that one pan of each wasn't enough for the entire party. To feed 75 you would have needed at least 5 pans of sides. I apologize for that. Although too late for your party, one of the attendees requested a catering and we interceded so the same mistake wasn't made." So he acknowledged that HE made a mistake by ASSUMING something that was NEVER discussed. Never once did I say anything about ME making or providing side dishes. My goal was to have everything taken care of and not lift a finger. I was shocked, dismayed and very disappointed that he would admit he made a "mistake" and not do ANYTHING AT ALL to make up for it. Very poor business ethic. If you mess up and your customer is not happy the onus is on you the business owner, to rectify the situation. read more

We hired Tin Hut BBQ to cater our wedding - it was excellent!!! The staff was friendly and accommodating, and overall seemed very excited to be a part of our wedding day! Frank was helpful in creating our menu and determining how much we needed based on our guest list. The food was a perfect fit for what we were looking for in a wedding meal - something filling that most people enjoy! It was a great way to combine food interests of my husband's local family in Hawaii and my family from the midwest. The prices for catered food from this company are very reasonable, especially when it comes to a wedding. We ordered pulled pork, chicken thighs, brisket, mac & cheese, rice and the pineapple slaw. We catered through Tin Hut BBQ at one of our work functions. Let me just start by saying, Frank (the owner) is so easy to work with! He is so friendly and made the process so much easier from start to finish. He recommended his most popular items to us and even threw in a new item for us which was a garlic shrimp pan. He said we were the first ones to try it, it was nice of him to do that and was one of the best garlic shrimps I've tasted. Everyone loved the food (sadly I didn't get any photos), but they did not complain one bit. We had a large party and were given the right amount of food! I so wanted to like this new place set up in the DuPont, WA area. My intention is not to bash this restaurant but maybe help it with suggestions. My family ordered 3 sandwich plates and a 2 meat plate to try other meats. My daughter's pulled pork sandwich was missing the entire sandwich and only got the meat.. totally fine we have bread. My son and I both ordered the brisket sandwich, which would have been pretty delish had it not been for the over use of salt.. but the pineapple slaw help cut it down when added to the sand.. (slaw is yum) the 2 meat plate, well, was disappointing. The tri tip could barely be eaten as it was about 70% fat and 30%meat. Ribs were ok. Mac and cheese needs a lot of help. No seasoning what so ever. Almost dry. It was like a boxed Mac and cheese with some shredded cheese added to help bind it. Our order was $62 and the prices weren't overly priced But for what we received, not worth the price unfortunately for aprx $15 a plate. It has major potential. And I loved seeing what looked like the entire family there working. The young lady at the register loved what she was doing and you could tell. The owner was showing the young man how to make sure every order matched to the ticket. And actually was teaching skills. Loved seeing that. Tried Tinhut BBQ when the food truck came down to Nimitz. The portion size was great for the price. I ordered the beef brisket, mashed potato and gravy, and mac and cheez. For $12 it kept me full for lunch and past dinner! The gravy was perfect but the mashed potatoes were a little watery and the mac and cheez was almost as good as my grandmother's homemade baked mac and cheese! Tin Hut BBQ did a great job with the quality of food. And also with the service! My guests and I truly enjoyed the food that was prepared. I especially enjoyed the potato salad. I liked it because it was different. It had like this sweet, vinegar taste that felt more original to the south. They also provided their original BBQ sauce that was SO Yum, it had a type of tang to it that made me want more! Also, I was worried that the meat might be dry because I have never had it catered before. But, when we ate it, it was perfect and moist. Would def. recommend them! read more

It seems that just after I mentioned that there was an absence of BBQ restaurants on the island that they all started to pop up onto my radar. Unfortunately, while the location in the NEX food court was convenient, the food here was just alright. I was looking forward to trying the brisket, but it was sold out when we tried to order it. I'm not sure if it was actually sold out because we were there at around 11:00, so maybe they just didn't bring any in that day. Having that option crossed off the list, I settled for the pulled pork sandwich. It was simply, in all aspects, average. Perhaps a bit above something you could get in a warehouse store from the freezer section but still dry enough and lacking in smokey flavor to leave you wanting for more. One of the side choices was a cajun mac and cheese. I would recommend staying away from that because it was pretty much macaroni covered in some nacho cheese sauce and maybe some cayenne pepper. read more

If you're looking for some delicious BBQ, this is the truck to stop at and get some. I was doing some errands and caught myself hungry so I decided to stop at this truck and I wasn't disappointed. Had some of their pulled pork with some salad and not only it eliminate the feeling of hunger but it was amazing. The meat was so tender and the amount of ingredients on it was perfect. This is for the location in pearl city so idk if other locations are as bad. But the food was just terrible. Very dry and tasteless. They also messed up on our order by not including the ribs in our trio meat plate. When we asked for it, we got 1 rib even though on the menu it states "ribS." You definitely need the sauce to make the food edible but they don't even put a container of sauce in the plate. The Mac and cheese was bland and tasted like fake cheese, while the bbq baked beans tasted like it was straight from a can. I mistakenly posted a review and follow up of the Pearl Harbor NEX location under their Wahiawa location. I predicted they would probably be gone within a few months due to their inability to have all of their menu items available for even half of the hours they were open. Sadly that seems to be what happened. The last few times I was there, the soda case and the little showcase where they had t-shirts, barbecue sauce, etc were empty, and everything was pushed against the wall. read more
