Careful pulling into this place, traffic on Valley Blvd is traveling freeway speeds. This place is in dire need of loving care...i.e. major paint / renovation. Wet beef burrito was ok, yet I've had much better. We were the only ones here. Waitress was cool, but she didn't understand one word I said. I'm surprised that the food came out somewhat right. I used to go to the "other" Jalisco on Valley & Turnbull years ago but I had not been to this location. My dad had been in a mood for cocido (a Mexican type of soup with beef). We decided to try this location and I was hoping it had the two best features the other location had: great prices and tasty food. It does! You know my dad had his cocido and I had the Camerones estilo Costa Azul which is bacon wrapped shrimp. At $9, this plate would be $12-$15 at any of the normal restaurants we normally go to. The food was delicious and the shrimp were big. This restaurant is a no frills restaurant. Don't bring someone here on your first date! But the service is good and the value is phenomenal. None of that matters if the food is not good but you won't have that problem here. They have a Juke box that only seems to play Vicente Fernandez but that's not all bad. read more

Idk about the food at this restaurant but the food truck needs help they need to use better quality meat it almost looks like carne molida de puerco or chicken. Who knows...The onions taste horrible they either the have them sitting in the heat or something but that was the worst I ever had. they replace 3 items cuz they swear everything is fresh made, and she said there's has to been a mistake...I said okay we will try again. but honestly the meat is probably the cheapest meat with didn't get onions the second time, it is not carne asada though it taste like cooked beef or some sort of beef it was so salty, Very disappointing. I did give them 2 stars for good rice and beans. Customer service was decent. She really tried to be nice. Going back the food...The salsa tasted water down, it taste like tomatillos with water. I think I'll leave it at that. And I know good food and good cooking. I cook a lot at home so when I eat out I want to be a treat not a disappointment. Sat inside the restaurant and had the super torta which was delicious- bread was warm and soft, milanesa was also tasty, overall good experience especially since the restaurant itself has a humble and cozy vibe. After eating there many times over the past 3 or 4 years not much has changed, so again I got to go with the food inside, not the truck just outside. Not talking high end dining with over the top atmosphere, but good value and seating is comfortable enough to eat your meal and that meal is always good exept once when I'm not sure but I think it must not have been the regular cook because my burrito was put together different that time and I did not like it. So go inside because the food is just better and little tip.... its safer. Never heard of anyone ever shot inside, but they have outside. Service was good, 4 stars there (they were nice at the taco truck). They messed up an order, but they fixed it so it was ok. It's cool that they had the little table of salsa, beans, lemon, etc. The price was pretty decent too. However, the food was super salty and pretty lackluster. That's where they really messed up. I have always had a good meal at this joint for the many years I have visited. However, tonight's meal of chicharrones in salsa verde was probably the worst version of that dish I've had. First, the chicharrones were semi-crunchy in the salsa. My experience with this dish is that the chicharrones should be cooked until soft and gushy. But semi-crunchy? It's bad enough that the chicharrones look like the kind that come out of a bag. Plus the salsa verde was a bit bland but I would have overlooked that had the chicharrones been cooked properly! What kind of lazy cooking is that? I try not to be too hard on hole-in-the-wall type of joints but this really perplexed me. As I have to factor in the food as well as the service, this place gets 4 stars for food and 1 star for service, so let's call that 2 stars. The fish tacos, rice and beans, and the green enchiladas with beef were above normal, but it was hard to enjoy the meal with the poor service we got. Entered cafe around 3:00pm, hungry and also thirsty for a cold beer. Absolutely no one else there, kind of gaudy interior, zero ambience...the place needs paint and straightening up, gotta fix the 'ick factor'. Seated ourselves, observed two ladies having a conversation behind the counter, didn't get acknowledged, but before long got a plate of chips and hot sauce and two really tattered menus. We ordered our beers and started checking out the menu. I saw the server grab the beers from the cooler but continued to talk to the other lady, with no apparent thought of opening them and bringing them to us. I was about to get up and interrupt her conversation but she finally moved into action. The two ladies started talking to each other again, so when we wanted to order food it was hard to get their attention, and when we finally got someone to stop by, ordered our food. After I finished my beer and wanted to order another, no one was keeping an eye on us, which was amazing because we were the only ones there, the service and attention should have been amazing, but was non-existent. When the server came to take our food order, I ordered my second beer then. The food came fast enough, but I noticed I was only given a fork, the setup didn't include a knife??. So I got up to ask for a knife, as well as some tabasco, which was not on our table. No salt, pepper, tabasco....nothing on the table except a napkin holder. We were there for almost an hour, the ONLY ones in the place, and not once did the server come by to ask how things were. We finished our meal and slid our empty plates to the edge of the table, to signal the fact they should be cleared. I'm estimating we stayed another 15 minutes and had to look at those dirty plates the whole time, never cleared. One last thing....I was having a nice conversation with a friend I hadn't seen in a year, and all of a sudden the server decided to crank up the jukebox with the loudest "banda" song she could come up with, totally destroyed our conversation, so we waited for the song to end. She did not play the song for the customers, she obviously wanted to hear a favorite song of hers, at a god-awful volume. I'm a generous tipper, never under 15%, normally 20%, more if service better than normal. When leaving, I started telling the waitress why I was giving her a lousy tip, and she stopped me midway to ask if I could tell her in Spanish, she couldn't understand me??? Great, poorest service I think I've ever had and I couldn't even tell the server why. Long review, but at least I feel better now. read more

This place hit the spot. Where can you find street tacos with homemade corn tortillas. Everything was so fresh and yummy. The salsa bar they have inside wowzers the onions, salsa, and beans. Everything was tasty. The hours are crazy they open at 5 and close at 4am Friday and Saturday, the best part of my visit is the man taking the order he was so nice. Really nice staff at El Jalisco Cafe, there Mexican food is so delicious and authentic and the best thing about it is that it's not expensive, another great thing is there lunch truck located outside of the restaurant, homemade tortillas are the best and go good with the tacos.
