I am so happy they opened a location closer to me because I used to go to the Chino location. Food: AMAZING! Ube everything speaks to me! My favorites are the Ube truffle & Ube flan cupcakes. The ube really stands out and it's incredible! I got a Jasmine Milk Tea + Milo Milk Tea, which is part of the $3 tea deal and the Jasmine is super strong! Same with the Milo Milk Tea. I love that the upside down halo halo maximizes the ube and has a simple scoop of vanilla ice cream on top (with the piece of flan, of course). I just found the cupcake a bit dry. The cafe was completely full when I visited. I snagged the last available table near the bathroom. Groups would come and go though. Service was quick. Tried this location for the first time with my wife. Cute little set up with some nooks for more privacy. Could use more seating. Crazy selection of drinks and some baked goodies, lots of Ube choices. We wanted something a little more so they have a few sandwiches to choose from. We both the pastrami panini, so delicious. I had a cookie cream milkshake which was great and my wife had a peach mango cooler which she really enjoyed. Came here for a cupsleeve event and left a fan. A few weeks ago some friends of mine hosted a cupsleeve event at this location and I found it to be a ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC location to do so. The experience was more than welcoming cause all the vendors had enough space outside to set up their spots, and inside the setting was super spacious to decorate. The drinks here are insanely good. So cool to see how much Cafe 86 has grown over the years. We used to visit their Chino location when they first opened about a decade ago. The menu was pretty limited back then and they were only open a few days a week. Now they have expanded a lot and offer way more options. We tried the Milo cupcake, Mini Upside Down Halo Halo, and Mini Mais Con Yelo. All were tasty. I normally skip the halo halo because I do not like beans, but their version uses assorted jellies and boba, and the cornflakes add a nice crunch. It was actually really enjoyable. I remember the first time I went to Cafe 86 was in Old Pas years ago (in the alley by Burke Williams). I was happy to discover that they have opened one close to home in W. Covina! Great for all things ube, they have a plethora of Ube flavored drinks and sweets. They even have a new drink called Matcha Pandan - extra green (if matcha isn't green enough) for all those who want something to drink while wearing their quarter zips. I got a house milk tea, Milo milk tea and Mais con Yelo bar. All were great, although the Milo milk tea was not dissolved and still very powdery so I was getting chunks of Milo powder in every sip. I like the location of their cafe as it was the first door from the parking lot. They had limited covered parking that was very accessible to the door of Cafe 86. The cafe boasts of dark wood, dark pleather, and industrial details making up its interior. It seems like a nice place to study or meet with a friend. It is literally a cafe selling coffee, boba and ube and filipino inspired pastries. I think they had 3 sandwiches offered on their menu. They had a Milo cupcake (dried milo powder sprinkles on top of the icing too!) and ube cupcakes with leche flan on top. Lots of ube, actually. I went to one of their collab pop-up events which featured an artist selling a ton of shirts , jackets, bags, and hats. They didn't have a variety on the designs but great job on the marketing! I drove 13 miles to get here (25mins). Back to the cafe, they had very friendly folks working here (owners?) . She made me a regular milk - milktea even though I specified for oatmilk. She cheerfully explained that the oatmilk option watered down the drink but she made me a second one (oatmilk) anyway, free of charge, just so I can taste the difference. This newly opened Cafe 86 can be found in West Covina, right by The Colony at Lake Apartments. Street parking is available (there is also a parking structure with a sign about validation but did not inquire closer). For their special July 4th deal, Cafe 86 was selling all of their tea drinks for only $2 each (prior to tax). I decided to take advantage of this deal and ordered online: Tiger Tea Hibiscus Calamansi Tea Ube Milk Tea The Rosie Ube Butter Bars- Very, very sweet. The flavor of ube does shine through. I do like the shortbread that the ube is on. Mais Con Yelo Bar- This is also very sweet and is similar to corn bread, but a lot sweeter. Ube Leche Flan Cupcake- Did not get a chance to try this. But I have had this in the past from one of their other locations and always thought it was sweet but liked the unique combination of flan and a cupcake. Ube Cashew Brownie- I like the added cashews but this is also very sweet. -------------------------- (Total= $33.40 after tax with $2 tea special, higher prices ordering online and service fee) I did not realize later on that I paid more than what the cost of these items are in store. If you order online, the price is a little higher per item and also I was charged a $0.50 service fee. Honestly that is greedy but I suppose that is the convenience of ordering online. All of the drinks I ordered were really, really sweet. Even though I ordered them to be made with less ice and no sugar. I had to add more water to my Tiger Tea to dilute the sweetness (just for reference, I typically like to have my drinks between 25- 50% sweetness). The desserts I ordered just feels like someone just dropped an entire bag of sugar into the mix. Which I honestly don't recall these baked goods being so sweet before. I don't know if the recipe has changed or if this particular location has just decided to add significantly more sweetener/ sugar to their desserts... But Filipinos sure do love their sweets (please note that although I am not Filipino, I did grow up eating a lot of Filipino food because I had a Filipino nanny growing up). Service was friendly but had to wait to pick up my items, as this eatery was slammed with customers (for $2 tea, you know people will come in droves and order more than 1 drink, just like I did). I don't know if I would come back. I am a little disappointed with how sweet everything is (as I don't recall their desserts being this sweet from previous visits to their location in Chino Hills and Pasadena.... which that location has been closed for years now). I am also disappointed on the higher price online and the service fee that I was not made aware of. This is my first time trying Filipino style desserts. So let's see if they're pretty good eh or ew. It's been years since my last visit to a Cafe 86 (in another city), so when I was craving Halo Halo, I was happy to find a closer spot in West Covina. I got their upside down halo halo ($10.50), halo halo bread pudding with ube ice cream ($5.95), ube pop tart ($5.50) and ube crinkle ($4.25). You can't go wrong with any of their ube sweets! If you are a fan of halo halo (which they do have!) and love ube a lot, the upside down halo halo is for you! The entire drink is flipped upside down, so while it still has the usual toppings of jelly, boba, flan, etc., the entire drink is ube based and topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and some cornflakes. If you like your ube ice cream more subtle, the regular halo halo is all that. There's retail parking in the structure right next to Cafe 86, so that was nice and pretty easy. Recently tried Cafe 86 to get a few things done and it was really chill. The staff is friendly and helpful- I ended up trying an ube spiced latte and their ube brownie. The brownie was maybe a 3/5, good but I've had better. The latte really won me over, though. The spices meld really well with the ube flavor. I've had ube my whole life and find that lots of places are making flavored lattes with it now, but can't quite get the flavor accurate. This one was really good. I've been to Cafe 86 at other locations but this one seemed a bit larger than the ones I've been to. I happen to arrive on 8/6 so they had a really great $2 tea deal and the tea was super delicious. First time here and was interested to try Halo Halo somewhere other than Jollibee. I asked about the Mais Con Yellow or whatever it's called since it was in the Halo Halo section. Worker told me it was the same thing, but with corn kernels at the bottom. It was NOT the same ingredients of the Halo Halo - didnt have jackfruit or any of the colorful jellies.
