Good authentic restaurant down in old Commerce City. This establishment has built a solid local reputation. The food strikes me as New Mexican cuisine (Think green chili on everything, tamales, hearty type of meals accompanied by refined beans and Spanish rice). Vibe and feel is traditional, not trendy. Warm tortilla chips upon arrival with the perfect amount of salt, and red salsa. Huge portions of which we usually take home leftovers. My wife typically goes for the tamales which are in her opinion the best in town, I like the steak and eggs smothered in green chili. Their breakfast is pretty good too...large breakfast burritos where you eat one and are good for the rest of the day. Good mix of locals of all ages and families, it's usually busy on weekend evenings. There are three main seating areas, including a bar. Service is good with a friendly and accommodating staff. (I.e. I'm lactose and requested no cheese and it's never an issue). Had a couple instances where the bill was incorrect and another time where we were charged for a side we sent back. Not a big deal. My partner and I go here probably once every other week. The food is very good. We especially like the stuffed sopapilla - but only order it if you're really hungry because it's huge. It's one of the few places in town that makes green chile with a kick that I can feel - but you can order it mild if you want. If you have a larger group, this is a good place to try - they have a large banquet room they'll open up if you want to bring the extended family. The place can get busy - it's popular, even among all the Mexican places in Commerce City! So keep that in mind. Prices are very reasonable. Drinks are hefty. Service is quick and pleasant. We moved to the Western Slope (in 2020) and we travel back to the Front Range every 2-3 months to buy a gallon of their medium green chili and enjoy their food. It's just the BEST. I've been going to El Jardin since high school when I had a part time summer job in commerce city, so 24 years, and back in the day when the owner was alive prices were reasonable and it was a great place to go, and then about 15 years ago I had a job that did lunches for employees and I catered through them often...but I've realized in most recent years, the prices steadily increased and the portion sizes decreased. The food is still tasty but it's just not enjoyable anymore. For example, I just bought a quart of salsa ($12.99) and I asked for chips with it, I had to pay $2.99 for those and I got a brown bag with my salsa, I mentioned the bag was not very full and she said "sorry that's what they call a side, I can get you another one but it will be $2.99" I said nevermind I'll go to King Soopers and buy a full bag for that price. I came home and counted the chips ... theres 23 chips!! Thats 13 cents per chip and 12.99 for salsa that probably costs $3.00 to make, it's just not right in my opinion. Authentic Mexican food!! Their enchiladas are my absolute fav. A hidden gem nestled in the stank of Commerce City. Hole in the walls usually have the best food. The green chile is perfect and will warm you to the soul. I'm all about the green chile. It's gotta be the right spice level, color, consistency. The portions are big and hearty, spicy, cheesy deliciousness!! I almost always have left overs and they taste even better the next day. My husband and I probably eat at El Jardin at least once a month being that I drive by on my way home everyday. Living in Reunion its one of the FEW places out our way that has decent food. I've never really understood why I have to pay $4 to take an extra side of salsa home - but if I dine in I could eat a pint of it and not be charged. Apparently saying you are a vegetarian and don't eat meat at El Jardin means please add pork to my meal. Easily the worst dining experience I had on my trip to Denver. We had to wait about 45 minutes to get our food and 2 of my friends had upset stomachs for the rest of our trip. Unfortunately after so many years of coming to this restaurant I have to say that I will never ever return or recommend this place to anyone! Everything here has been bad for a while now service, food quality and food accuracy. From coming here often I've noticed that some waitress became part of management which congratulations!! but at least do your f****** job of making sure that your customers are all attended and content. The new manager (older lady with blond hair) was useless as a waitress and even worse as a manager I just don't understand how people wana move up in positions and make more money but can't do their job right. As I drove by many Mexican restaurants on the way to the Commerce City location, I wondered what would separate El Jardin from the rest. Well, as I entered an entirely filled lot and a huge crowd of people waiting to be seated, I figured something must be right. Thankfully, I ordered to-go, as the wait was somewhere north of 30-45 minutes! But I can tell you the ambiance is typical local Mexican and the people around the joint looked pretty satisfied. We ordered (as usual) a deluxe feast consisting of the El Jardin sampler, a Battered Relleno (call protective services), and a Stuffed Sopapilla. When I opened the to-go containers, what I saw was mesmerizing - huge portions bathed in sauce. The rellenitos (in the sampler) were AWESOME and the main courses were delicious - however, the winner is certainly the stuffed sopapilla! El Jardin is literally the BEST Mexican food I have had in such a long time. Now, i'm an avid fan of Mexican food, but it seems as if everytime I go try a new restaurant, my food is just slabbed onto my plate with that generic type of taste, if you know what I mean. Yet, at El Jardin although they do serve the typical rice and beans as a side there is something different about the taste. My first time here I ordered a Chicken Burrito with the Green Chile on the side. We snacked on some chips and homemade salsa before the food came and the salsa tasted so good. I got my Chicken Burrito and it probably had to be some of the most moist chicken I have ever tasted, and don't get me started on the Green Chile. I usually am iffy about Green Chile because my dad has accustomed me to his homemade kind, but I would eat this Green Chile every single day! Another nice thing El Jardin offers (besides its friendly wait staff) is specials every day. Although I haven't "participated" in these specials they do have $1.99 Margaritas on Thursdays and also specials of the day (The Tequila Lime Chicken sounds delicious). We drove out to this place because of the review from channel 7. When we arrived the parking lot was full which is a good sign. The place was pretty packed which was also good! The reason why I rate this 1 star is because the waitress was VERY rude. She kept rolling her eyes when we ordered something, even when my 5 year old needed a refill! El Jardin has become our go to Mexican place. I've had the carnitas several times (and in several different dishes) and frankly never had better. Everything we've tried has been good. I grew up in Arizona and spent a lot of time in New Mexico so I've had my share of Mexican food. El Jardin is definitely in the top tier of Mexican restaurants. Prices are a bit higher than some other places for lunch. I assume that's because they don't have a "lunch menu" but it's worth it in my opinion. Service is consistently friendly and good. We live in North Commerce City and drive by this place all the time going south. After three plus years we decided to stop by on a whim today. Free chips and salsa- it was okay. I liked the chips and thought the salsa was too salty and watered down. My husband ordered the breakfast burrito and I ordered the large combo plate. To be honest we Loved what we ordered and it was simply due to the Amazing and Delicious green chili. My large combo plate was huge and all I ate was the smothered bean burrito. First off, their salsa is perfection. Amazing flavor and spice balance. Started with some posole soup. They had all these little side dishes accompany it like shredded cabbage, onions, limes, etc. It was very good and loved all the little additions I could decide to add or not add.
