Quick in and out. Think of like a subway but for burritos or Tex-mex food. We both got a carne asada burrito, cilantro lime rice, cheese, lettuce, pico, sour cream and pickled onions. This burrito was TO DIE FOR!!! Quite frankly if we realized how big it was we could've definitely split one. A friend and I went here after watch a show. It was conveniently placed alongside one of the main roads, we decided to try it cause we were hungry. I got the Mexican bowl, and it was so amazing that they allow you to customize it however you want (chipotle style). There was a variety of delicious options and bases to choose from. The workers were very kind; whenever I asked a question reading the options, they'd answer it cheerfully. The restaurant was reminiscent of a small Mexican restaurant, few seats. Overall, my bowl was BUSS (chipotle actually could NEVERRRRR) and I'm was really happy and satisfied. They have a variety of main courses to choose from which is amazing. After walking 20,000 steps in Boston I think we deserved some tacos. We stopped at el Jefe's taqueria. I had 2 carnitas and 1 chorizo taco. My husband tried 2 al pastor and 1 carne asada. I had to have my favorite drink Hibiscus tea. We topped the tacos with our favorite toppings and squeezed a lime over them and popped it into our mouths! Seriously they were gone in minutes. It was busy when we got there, people were in and out. They did have tables and restrooms only for customers. They have a rack of hot sauces to choose from. They are near the Boston Public Garden so could probably order take out and have a taco picnic. Love that this taco joint stays open past 10 pm to accommodate the post theater crowd! We had gone to see a show at the Emerson Colonial and we were starving when we left the theater. El Jefe's is very conveniently located just steps away from the theater, they have a prime location. The place was hopping with a nonstop flood of patrons-post theater crowd, college students and just people walking by. I had a bowl combo for only $14.99 with choice of one protein, toppings, choice of side or dessert and a drink. I got the carnitas with mango salsa, pica, cheese, red cabbage, pickled onions, lettuce. For a side I got the Mexican corn cup with was their corn kernels, special sauce and seasoning shaken on top. One of the most satisfying fast food places, with affordable prices in the area. My go-to is the custom bowl with steak or carnitas as protein. What I like most about this place compared to other places is that the guacamole and plantains are part of the toppings without any additional charge! Service is efficient - the bowl is made within 5 minutes. There are about 8 tables that can be combined if you come as a group. Ordered El Jefe as a late night snack. It's very affordable, with plenty of add-ons and options. My mouth was watering when we opened the takeout boxes. They really give you a ton of food for the price. Everything is authentic; the guac had real avocado chunks, the fish and meat weren't just frozen warehouse garbage. The quesadillas weren't overly oily, and they went perfectly with the spicy chipotle mayo. I would say it's very hearty and heavy, so be sure to have an appetite if you order, since I don't think these keep well in the fridge.
