The place is conveniently located close to the Colonial Theater and it was a convenient place for a quick meal after work and before a 7 pm show. There is limited seating but we were lucky to find a table. Lines move fast and I got a chicken burrito bowl. You get all the topping you want to add including guacamole and sweet plantains. It was a quick meal that filled my stomach.

My cousin and I were roaming around Boston Public Park and the Garden, looking for a nice spot for brunch. He was craving Mexican food, so we decided to give it a try. I ordered a burrito for him, while I got a bowl with beef, veggies, corn and more. For drinks, we had Jamaica and horchata, so refreshing and delicious. The place was spacious, with a nice bar and plenty of tables. I really liked that you could watch them prepare the food and customize exactly what you wanted. It did get a little loud at times, making it hard to hear each other, but overall, the food and atmosphere made it totally worth it!

Always fast and efficient service. The food is always fresh and I love that they provide guacamole as one of their toppings instead of having a surcharge. You can get a taco, burrito or a bowl. Then it works like a chipotle line where you get your choice of rice, protein, and first the hot station(eg rice and beans) before the cold station (lettuce, pico de gallo) and then you are all set. It's always busy but never a long wait. The location is very convenient and is welcoming with plenty of seating areas. Tip: take the paper menu while in line to know what you want before your turn!

Tried this spot with a group of friends. It's a pretty small space overall, tight quarters, and it felt like there was something or someone in the way no matter where you turned. The line moved quickly, which was nice, but the layout made the whole place feel a bit clogged. There's not a ton of seating, so don't expect to dine in comfortably with a group. I ordered the Fajita Bowl, which lets you pick three proteins. I wasn't that impressed. It was good enough, just not something I'd go out of my way for again. Also, the bathroom situation? TINY!!!. Really hard to get into and barely any room to move once you're inside. And you need a code to go in. Overall, the food was decent, fast service, maybe clear out the common spaces.

Was with a group after a concert. We were hopeless and hungry later at night. Then El Jefe stepped into the equation and saved the night. I didn't get to try that much but I needed a quick fix and the Pollo asada fajita bowl Mexican rice guac red salsa hit the spot. Chips and salsa were a great starter too. Not the best I've had, but for what it was and how late it's open, it's great.

I tried El Jefe for lunch via a catering service. I didn't actually step inside so I can speak to the ambiance but I can comment on the food. The burrito bowl was absolutely delicious. It was packed with flavor and what seemed like high quality ingredients too. The portion was perfect. I'd definitely order from here again.

Grabbed lunch here while walking around the Commons area. It's a small place with limited seating. It's an order at the counter place, so be prepared to wait in line. Service wasn't very fast, so the line moves slowly. Also, kids quesadilla meal comes with a super small quesadilla that's perfect for a small toddler but not an older kiddo. They have many soft drinks to choose from. Burritos are very large. I had a carne asada bowl and while the asada was flavorful, the rest of the ingredients were bland. Even the green salsa needed salt.

Stopped in on a busy Friday night -- was pleasantly surprised by how quickly they moved through the line and we were able to get our food! They have very affordable options which feels increasingly rare in downtown Boston. The value here is unbeatable. The food itself was pretty solid. The burrito was tasty but not super well constructed; it fell apart while eating it which was not ideal. The tacos were delicious and we plan on ordering them again. All the ingredients tasted fresh! The facilities were pretty standard -- the bathroom was kind of unusably small but there was free water available. Overall, would recommend for a quick stop meal.

Really (really) solid Mexican spot for a fresh, quick, and inexpensive meal. I found all of the ingredients to be tasty and fresh. Guac was fire! Their horchata is a tad bit too sweet but still really good.

A great place for a late night meal! I got a chicken bowl with beans and veggies. It was delicious and filling. They had a huge line but the service was still pretty fast and efficient. Seating is limited but there is a lot of In and out. Overall I had some good food last minute in the city

For $11ish, you can get a nice hefty burrito bowl here. I went with al pastor today (pork). The pork is so tender and flavorful. Tip : ask them to put their special home made hot sauce on it. This is only recommended for people who has a high spice tolerance lol My bowl pretty much had everything. From pickled onions to corn to onions and cilantro. Is this better than Chipotle? Depending on the day lol I do love that El Jefes have different toppings that I typically like. Sometimes Chipotle hits differently; In a good day lol I do highly recommend this place if you work around Chinatown/Downtown area.

If you are looking for a breakfast come with a side of home fries I recommend this place. For 9.75 you can get a Mexican breakfast two burrito which consist of egg, rice and whatever you like for a normal burrito and a home fries. The services is very quick and friendly staff. The place feel like a diner but still it great place to gra

Solid 4 stars for me. Pretty busy when I got there, but they kept things moving quickly. Got a carnita burrito and it was really good. Service was on point. Would definitely return.

The restaurant gives very vibey vibes like the average Boston trendy taco spot. Moody lighting and those tiny lamp lights they put on the table. It was quite busy on a rainy weekday so I am very glad to have made a reservation. The server was great with getting to us when we arrived and checking on us initially. I think they made the chips in house and they were very thick but they didn't really stand out to me and the guac was very citrus sour. We didnt even finish it . It was wild cause it was like $16.99. The margaritas are not too sweet with the alcohol hidden within the mix. I would go just for these. The tacos were pretty good with baby tortillas. They were also quite messy and they didn't give you any utensils.... My favorite was the citrus or chipotle chicken, my friend and I both got chicken so I am honestly not sure. With all of the visitors here for the tournament, it's no surprise that the place was hopping. We got carded at the door and made our way inside. We initially found a small table towards the back, which were the only seats available when we walked in. After waiting at the table for several minutes, some seats at the bar opened up and we seized the opportunity to sit there instead. We ordered some margaritas, namely the house margarita and a coconut margarita. They were fine. We also ordered the triple dip (chips with salsa, guac and queso), a quesadilla and the birria tacos. Even though they were extremely busy, the food came out quickly. I didn't try the quesadilla but my boyfriend devoured it, so I think it's safe to say he liked it. The birria tacos were pretty solid. Only two of them on the plate but they were super juicy and a stuffed pretty generously. I liked the triple dip the best though, particularly the queso and guacamole. It's definitely very expensive for everything we got; this is likely because the place is located in a very touristy area of the city. For just two margaritas and three food items, it cost over $100. They also had us pay for everything before we received the food, though I get that this is probably because of how many people were there for the World Cup and ordering drinks to go. Overall a decent spot to have a drink, split a couple of appetizers and watch a game.

I was eager to try a variety of tacos, though I was warned the tacos are quite small. It was a fair warning. I ordered 5 tacos, and expected to leave stuffed, but I was hungry again by 4:00pm. Eeeek. These are 3-bite tacos. Although small, I enjoyed the flavors of all the tacos I tasted. My favorites were the seafood varieties. 1) Baja fish - really crispy batter, creamy, spicy slaw 2) Yucatán shrimp - great texture, and spicy bean-like plantain puree. The pork belly was sweet, but a bit dry. In addition to the picked red onions, it could have used another saucy component. The carnitas and chorizo tacos were also good, but were less interesting for my palate. My five tacos were $20, without any sides or drinks. They have lots of shareable sides and appetizers, and I could easily drop a lot of $ filling up on their tasty bites while lingering in their lovely space.

Every search for…read morebreakfast spots mentioned Mike & Patty's as a must stop for the best breakfast sandwich you're going to get anywhere. Enough said! I'm a huge breakfast fanatic, especially a good breakfast sandwich or burrito. This is the original location that was started by two friends and has grown to multiple other locations since. We took an Uber here from our hotel. I imagine if you drive over here, parking will be a challenge. It's almost easy to miss. It sits on a corner of a brick building with just writing on the windows. In all my research I did not catch that it is the smallest restaurant in Boston at only 175 square feet. It's basically a room with most of the space taken by the tiny kitchen. There's also a little tiny ledge on the window with a couple of stools for those who may want to dine in. Customers including us took turns walking in and putting in our orders and then stepping out to make room for more people. It had a steady line the whole time we were there. Hours are limited from 7:30-2 so don't delay. Customer service was straight business, kind of the norm in Boston. Their menu is breakfast sandwiches, a couple of burritos and some lunch options like a turkey sandwich, BLT, or a Rueben. For sides, they have hashbrowns or a plain English muffin. For a small menu, they do have quite a few drink options like coffee, tea, juices, and different flavored milks including banana milk which I have never seen. For their food, they use high quality ingredients from local farms and purveyors and have their own bakery for their bread. My eyes fixated on the Breakfast Grilled Crack mainly for the name, but also all the ingredients looked tasty. It was quality eggs, bacon, four cheeses on sourdough bread. I went extra and added sausage to it as well. I also got OJ to wash it down. We realized our only option to eat comfortably was to go back to our hotel lobby to eat. Even with the travel time, the sandwich was nice and warm and the bread was still nice and crispy from the griddle. This sandwich was indeed one of the best breakfast sandwiches I have ever had. I almost felt guilty eating it because of how rich and cheesy it was. I would skip the hash brown next time. It did not travel well nor did it have anything special going on with it. Hands down one of my favorite meals of the trip that I would absolutely do again if I am in the area.
