What surprised me was the fact that it took us about twenty minutes to drive home after picking up the food, then we had to bring the kids up who fell asleep in the car, which was followed by us having to get situated in the house before even getting to sit down to eat and it was still delicious... The Lechon disco fries was easily the big winner of the night. You really can't go wrong when you take one of my all time favorite munchies dish disco fries, then elevate it by adding one of the best pernils around on top of it. I can't imagine how much better this dish would have been if we ate it right away. I ordered the pernil platos (shredded pork shoulder) for myself which just showcased the pernil on a bed of rice with beans and maduros. Once again, their pernil is great, some of the best I've had. In the end I didn't even get to finish it since my kids kept wanting more! My wife went with the special tonight, Lechon Fritos which is basically deep fried pork belly. Seasoned well, I was sneaking a bite from her plate every chance I got. We also ordered 3 empanadas - beef, chicken, and guava & cheese. Beef was picadillo filled and pretty good, chicken was a bit dry so only so so, but the guava & cheese was fantastic. Once again, these guys just nailed it. Last but not least, my wife had also ordered tres leches. Now, I love tres leches, so it actually kind of rare when I find a spot whose tres leches lives up to my expectations and I gotta say, this one did. My aunt frequents this little hole in the wall and told me I needed to try it. I'm so glad I did. The ladies ordered pernil with arroz con gandules and I got the mofongo with pernil. I can't tell you how delicious and sexy the rice was. It was cooked perfectly. The pernil melted in my mouth. There was so much food when I finished I felt like I had just finished thanksgiving dinner and was swollen to the point of agony. But I couldn't help myself. I was in love. I can't wait to go back and try the chuleta. I also ordered a beef pastelillos, chicken pastelillos, and the guava pastelillos. The chicken was delicious. So flavorful. The beef was ok, but not nearly as sexy as the chicken. The guava was so different. It had cheese and caramel in it. I was shocked when I took my first bite. It was mouthwatering. It just opened up and this business is fire. I walked in and the place is already with people eating and ordering take out. And not just Hispanics, no the places was packed with people from all over the globe. The menu is small and simple. It does have traditional Puerto Rican food and the fried stuff. I didn't get the fried goodies because I need to look good in my shirt tonight so I avoided it. But next time I will definitely get that. So I ordered the special Camarones al Ajio (shrimp in garlic sauce ) with arroz Con gandules and tostones. (Rice with banana ) . I ordered a small soup on the side. If you aren't able to chase down their food truck, you could stop by their small sit-in restaurant a few minutes past Five Points. Empanadas ($3/ea or 2 for $5): We tried the Spinach/Cheese, Chicken, and Chorizo and definitely enjoyed them. They were freshly fried, so that's always a plus. Each one is pretty large and stuffed generously, while the taste was great; they were flavorful. In order of preference, however, I would go for Spinach/Cheese, Chicken, and then the Chorizo. Pernil Plate ($9): El Lechon de Negron is best known for their lechon (roasted pork), so this was a must order for us. I was really happy that the pork was tender, juicy, and flavorful. My fear was that it would be dry, but I'm glad that was not the case. All plates are served with arroz con gandules, maduros, and a side salad. Mofongo Plate w/ Pork ($9): I've never had mofongo, so I could not skip on this. It comes with your choice of meat, so I went with roasted pork. The mofongo was interesting--it had a great crispy crust and was pretty flavorful; I thought it would be bland. It came with a slightly sweet tomato-vegetable sauce, but I chose not to use it. The roasted pork was a good match. Bistec Encebollado Plate ($10): The thick strips of beef tenderloin were tender and juicy, which went well with the caramelized onions. It was flavorful, but I would've liked a little more sauce (or "the juices" the beef and onions were sauteed in). The arroz con gandules and plantains were great sides. Good little spot, at first I was looking for a food truck since it says that it's a food truck but then what you find is a nice little spot with great parking where you can eat inside or out. I ordered some pork with rice and mofongo, waited about 15 for my order to be ready, I have to say that it was pretty good, the portions are good, not too big and not too small. I have eaten here 3 times recently as my daughter lives near by. It is becoming our go to quick inexpensive place to eat. The first time we had the Cuban sándwich and the pernil. Both were really good & very authenic. The rice & beans were killer too. The next time we just had the empanadas we had 1 of each, beef, chicken, BBQ pork, and chorizo. All were outstanding, the crust is crunchy & delicious. My daughter loved the chicken one, I loved the chorizo. Next time in de had the cheese empanada, plus the pollo chiccaron. Again another awesome empanada. The pollo chiccaron was flavorful and delicious. I go to the Dominican Republic each wonder for 45 days, the PC reminded me of the chicken I get there. So, so good! I got the pernil platter with yellow rice and maduros. The food was ready fast, and it was hot and delicious. Obviously the pork is the star of the show, but even the little salad is worth your time. The price is right, too! I've seen this truck around a few times and have always wanted to try it but ended up getting something else on a whim. Last Saturday (Sept. 13th) they were awarded best truck at the 2014 Trucktober Fest at Monmouth Park....as such, it was time to try: I ordered their signature dish the Pernil. It is a pork shoulder marinated in "a homemade" mojo sauce. The pork was very tender with good flavor. It came on a bed of spanish rice with beans. Rice was perfectly cooked. The beans good too. It was topped with two pieces of platano maduros (ripe banana) which was fried. Also very good. I can't wait to stumble upon this truck again and try more. My first visit and it was during Covid 19 so I can't speak to the service or general ambience. But I ordered a chuleta/pork chop entree with arroz con gandules and maduros (for my lovely bride); my son had a Lechon Burger with fries and I had a Mofongo with pork (extra sauce). It reminded me of a time where no one was better at Lechon than my cousins in El Barrio and later in Brownsville, Brooklyn. It was so well seasoned! The mofongo was not crunchy (no chicharron) but it was still good and flavorful. Portions were ample and enough for another meal. Since my cousins are no longer with us, I can only have the tasteful memory by coming back here. Hopefully this lockdown will be over by then and I can sit and enjoy. read more

I met a few staff members at an Instayum event in Paramus and loved what they had to offer so I decided to make a personal trip. It's very easy to pass this place because it's somewhat in a cut but once you find it there's a ton of places to park. The storefront was very inviting and as I walked in I felt like I arrived in Puerto Rico. The ambience was great and a super clean establishment. The menu was easy to follow through and everything looked delicious. I ordered the chimichurri chicken that was seasoned very well and had the right amount of salt to it. The pork chop was salty but tasty. The only disappointment was the Chicharron de Pollo. It really had very little flavor. The yellow rice with pigeon peas and the maduros were very tasty. Ordered this food a few times. Overall the food is ok. On three different occasions I ordered the pernil. Each time the arroz con gandules was quite dry and could use a bit more flavor, same for the pernil. On my recent order this past week, I got the pernil and it was extra dry. Seemed like they literally gave me leftover scraps. I keep ordering here because I really want to like the food and am hoping one day I will get lucky and they mistakenly add more flavor to the dish! If I could give them 10 stars I would. Long story short I had a terrible Uber Eats experience- while nothing was the restaurant's fault they did everything they could to help and make things right. Enough that they literally turned our negative experience into a pleasant one by their care and amazing customer service. I used to always see the food trucks in front of city hall, but never had the chance to actually try their food. The other day me and my friend went there to try it out. The place is on the edge of Union, I would almost consider it Elizabeth. It's kinda difficult to see, and if you didn't know it was there, you might not go into the complex and try it out. You walk in and immediately are welcomed with Caribbean music. Salsa, bachata and merengue. The location is pretty small. Maybe about 6-8 tables total. Even though the location is small, it doesn't feel cramped. There are a lot of traditional Caribbean dishes. I tried a chicken empanada, pernil (picnic shoulder), and some rice and red beans. The chicken empanada was extremely delicious. It wasn't too salty. It wasn't dry, and it had a lot of shredded chicken in the empanada. I would definitely recommend them. The pernil was also extremely good, not salt either. The beans were my least favorite part of my meal. I'm not a big fan of having potato in my beans, but that is a personal preference.
