This place is pretty legit. Not super expensive, and the food is consistently good. The women working there are very friendly and they bring the food out to your table once you've selected what you want from the buffet line behind the glass. I went with carne asada, pechuga de pollo, and rice and beans. Overall I'd say for this type of restaurant Campo Bello is better and has more variety (guacamole/pico de Gallo), but El Malecon is open on Sundays whereas Campo Bello isn't. Food is consistently good. Overall probably the best Dominican food on this side of bay ridge. Really enjoy the oxtail, pernil, arroz con gandules. The chicharrones de pollo are so good too but the boneless chicharrones de pollo are suited for little children lol they are like chicken tenders. The chicken was dry and cold, the arroz con gandules was dry, and the pernil was so-so. I came in with my mother expecting much more, we were pretty let down, especially with the service! We went up to the food and were told to sit down and then when ordering at the table we were told we had to order by the food?! I've been here a couple of times. The food is good!!! But I have to say the waitress/cashier's that takes the order are not friendly they act as if your begging them to buy their food. Okay so I thought they were BBQ because they have a huge sign that says BBQ outside but apparently it's from the prior restaurant and they're too lazy to take it down. I go inside and say I want bbq chicken with rice and she looks at me in Spanish and says we don't have bbq chicken we only have regular chicken. I said what?? She then stares at me without blinking for literally 45 seconds. Then I looked at the menu and it said bbq chicken 12 dollars. I asked my friend to go order a bbq chicken and I sat on the side with shades on. She asked her coworker in another language if they even have bbq chicken. The coworker kept saying yes. So I go up to the counter where my friend is and she looks at me and says oh yeah we can put bbq on the chicken is that what you want. At this point I'm like wow. Regardless of the sign outside, they have bbq chicken on the menu. I paid 17$ for bbq chicken rice and a salad. Don't go here if you want slow paced uninformed waitresses. The food is good though. Decided to try here bs driving down to sunset. My kids asked for thirds! Portion size was great a full ton of rice and 8oz beans with enough sauce for our liking. Stewed chicken was great. Wish I would have asked for some potatoes. If they do that. When you order online be specific on what rice you want with your meal. (Yellow or white) pernil was tasty and came with some skin. Just tried El Malecon and was very pleased to have such a wonderful restaurant in walking distance from my apartment. The pernil was excellent as was the Mofongo. The food here is really good. However, the customer service is horrible. I work at a corporate store in the area and all the employees complain about the customer service and stop going there. I kept going there because the food is so delicious. But I will no longer be going there because they were extremely rude. In more then one occasion I've walked into the empty restaurant and not one person has approached me to ask me if I wanted something. Same thing happened today. I walked into the restaurant which was empty and 3 women just stood around watching the tv and mingling among themselves. One walked to the counter where I was standing and took a glance at me as she starting writing on a paper. Not one time asking me if I needed help. It is so rude to not acknowledge someone that chose to purchase from your business. I have learned my lesson along with my other coworkers and will not be giving them anymore of my money. read more
