This was surprising delicious. The seafood was wonderful and very reasonably priced. We were both really happy with our meal. The salsa was a little disappointing, tasted a bit like tomato juice, but we asked for hot sauce and salsa verde and that really had flavor and kick. The server was really great. Very friendly and really explained everything well. His personality made it feel like we had known him forever and really had a nice impact on our meal and choices. The restaurant itself is beautiful with bright colors and art everywhere. The music was fun. Really upbeat Spanish tunes that just gave this restaurant a wonderful energy. There's not a whole lot of restaurants in this area open on Monday... but we were sure glad they were open... The kids got their usual cheese, quesadilla with rice and they each get their own bowl of cheese dip lol.... I got the street taco combination of steak, chicken and pork tacos. They were delicious my friend got the enchilada combo... it was Bean,cheese,beef and pork.. he said it was great... We were so hungry. They brought us an extra bowl of chips while waiting for our food and their fresh salsa was very good. The service was fast and very pleasant. Today the lady was unfriendly, the fajitas were so salty couldn't eat it - when we told her she said ok and walked away. She was so indifferent and not welcoming. This is are only Mexican Food Restaurant in Montross. We only have 7 restaurants in Montross, and is counting a Subway and Cajun chicken restaurant inside a convenience store. I have eaten here three times in the past. I was never impressed. We just recently gave it a chance once again, and boy are we happy we did. There must have been a change in chefs, because we were absolutely blown away with the pork enchiladas platter. Everything was amazingly excellent. We will be back more often now read more

Excellent food and good service. The restaurant inside is charming and decorated nicely. There are colorful chairs with unique folk art images. The outdoor patio is really nice. It was extra hot so we sat inside. She brought chips and salsa right away and the salsa is good. They serve very toasted and thick chips. I prefer lighter chips but the salsa made up for it. Ordered guacamole to start. It was fresh and very good, topped with some diced tomatoes. For entrees, we ordered chilles rellenos, which here they stuff with shrimp, and the cocktail de camarones. Both were delicious but the shrimp dish was excellent. Somewhat like an excellent gazpacho with lots of shrimp and avocado. Both plates featured fresh ingredients. We will return for sure to try other dishes. The exterior doesn't indicate the charm of the inside. read more

The place looked closed when we walked in, the lights were off and no one seemed to be on the place, just as we started to walkout someone came out of the kitchen and told us to grab a seat. We ordered a cheese quesadilla for an app and I got the "taco combination" plate (one steak, one pork and one chicken). Here's what missed the mark: - The chips were cold and the salsa lacked flavor or texture, almost watery. - My drink was flat. - Cheese quesadilla was a gooey soft soaked mess. - Although the food looked good, it lacked flavor across the board. I think just a little more salt or some citrus would help out a lot. - Biggest grip: no hot sauce!! I love hot sauce! They had no bottled hot sauce and brought me some house made stuff, but all it tasted like was oil - no heat or flavor. Here's what was good: - Service was very friendly and attentive. - The place was very clean. So, I'll come back again soon and see if I was just, perhaps, there on an off day or something. We stopped by to try this place because it was close. We had heard it wasn't very good, but decided to give it a try for ourselves. The salsa tasted like pure tomato sauce, not very flavorful. The wife got beef chimichangas, that was more like a burrito than a chimichanga. She ate 3 bites and said the steak was tough and overall the dish was not very good.. I ordered the combo fajitas, which was also not seasoned very well. While service was good, the food definitely was lacking.....pretty sure the cook was not an authentic Hispanic, as I've NEVER had broccoli in fajitas....or any other Mexican cuisine that I've had read more

We spend a lot of time near Montross and had driven by El Mariachi several times. We usually go to another spot for Mexican food but a few months ago we wanted to give it a try. My wife had a quesadilla. It looked great. She ate one of the triangles and reached for another. As she lifted the food off her plate, a juvenile cockroach scurried put from underneath her food. Despite the lack of a crowd it toon ten minutes just to be greeted and offered a drink. And we're not food snobs... We were just hoping for good chips n salsa and guac. She eventually waved at me to seat myself, but didn't put the phone down for a long enough period of time that I considered leaving. Finally she came over and brought me a menu, silverware, and a some chips and salsa and greeted me (without an apology). I ordered the Speedy Gonzales. It wasn't speedy. It wasn't very good either. The meat was chunky and chewy. The salsa was oddly tasteless- like it wasn't seasoned. She didn't check on me until I was almost finished. Got here right after it opened and ordered the lunch deal for a special burrito and enchillada. The food was delicious. It's no top tier restaurant, but at least the ingredients they use is fresh. The meat was cooked well and juicy, not dry like other Mexican restaurants I have been to. Portions are decently sized for the price you pay. We came here on a Sunday afternoon and there was one waitress and one person in the kitchen. That was all the staff we saw. When we arrived, we knew the place wasn't going to be packed because there was only one car on the parking lot. However, when we walked in the place really looked closed. It was dark and there was no staff to speak of. There was one family that seemed to be about done with their dinner. We waited there for a while and finally the waitress came out. She seated us and disappeared again. The place didn't feel as dark once we were seated. After a while, the waitress came back with freshly fried corn chips that based on the time she was away I think she fried herself. The chips were good, but the salsa was not, mostly tasted like tomato sauce and a couple of pieces of onion and maybe cilantro. It was like the Mexican flavor and freshness were missing. The steak fajitas were not bad but the steak did not taste like it was marinated, just quite salty with a lot of seasoning. I must say though that a couple of people in our party did love the flavor of the steak. To me, it just wasn't Mexican. The waitress was nice and it looked like she was really doing the best she could, but this place really needs more staffing. I wish the food had been better. Stopped in for the first time yesterday - have been passing this restaurant for six years. I asked the ladies at the local farm stand if it was good and they said they *loved* the food there. So I went over to the restaurant and I ordered a chicken enchilada for lunch ~really enjoyed it. I asked for very little cheese and they gave me what I asked for. The chicken was well spiced and the corn tortilla was tasty. I liked the pico de gallo. This restaurant also runs a little grocery store, and it seemed that the waitress is working in both. She took my order, was friendly and accommodating. I'll stop here again. I am all for helping small businesses like this one stay in business. read more
