We ordered: +Quesabirria - comes with 3; the meat itself could have been a bit more juicy, as it was slightly dried out; the consommé was delicious and a great complement +Tacos - we ordered 2 pollo tacos and 2 carne asada tacos; the shredded chicken tacos were forgettable, and we weren't really fans; the star of the show, however, were the carne asada tacos - these chunks of meat were marinated and seasoned very well, and were savory and delicious; there were some chunks with some fat, which the hubs loved; the handmade tortillas were great +a mango juice - freshly prepared, it seems, as it seemed literally 100% juice of a mango; not too sweet either We'd love to try their breakfast or their regular burritos next time, and we're hoping that horchata will be available on the next visit! Was looking for some tacos to-go for Taco Tuesday. Found Tacos Hernandez on Google Maps, so gave it a try. It's not a sit-down restaurant with table service, like Plaza Azteca or Plaza Tolteca, but more "hole-in-the-wall". If you're on the west coast, I'd compare it to Roberto's. The food was good, about what you'd expect from a hole-in-the-wall type of place. The carne asada taco was just right with the size and amount of meat. The chicken tamale was good, but felt like there was a lot more masa than meat. I'm sure every abuela's family recipe is a little different, but I'm used to thinner dough and more meat. I am new to the area and found this place scrolling around a map looking for lunch. We got tacos, guacamole and a side of rice and beans. We also got all 3 of their hot sauces on the side. Everything was delicious. My hubs did prefer the chicken and pork over the asada taco which he thought was too chewy and fatty. The tortillas are thick corn tortillas so no tearing apart when you try to eat them! Authentic places like this are hard to find in St. Mary's. It's rare to find legit Mexican in the DMV. To find it in southern Maryland was a surprise. The carnitas and carne asada were California good and the portions were good. Service was decent. Totally what you would expect from a little joint. The atmosphere is a step or two above a home in the wall.... totally what you want for a taco/burrito shop. Quick service, walked in to find no one else in the dining area at noon. Ordered 3 tacos, reasonable price for street tacos and very delicious (carnitas, chorizo, and asada). It came with radish and cucumber slices on the side, just chopped onion and scallions on the tacos. I was given two small salsa cups, one red and one green, both creamy-style salsa rather than chunky. Not sure which was supposed to be "number 1" and "number 2" on a scale of 4, but I didn't find either of them very spicy (I'm used to it, so perhaps it is spicy for others). Best Mexican food in the area. I have tried several dishes in this small restaurant and they have not disappointed. They have fresh home made tortillas that they serve with their dishes. Quesabirria was on point so was the Pozole. Their salsas are authentic just like the ones in street tacos in Mexico. You should try this place. You won't be disappointed. read more

Friendly service and fantastic food. It's cozy but a very cool little place. No line, so we got our orders quickly and everything was great.

It's the only authentic Mexican place we've found nearby, they even have a vegan option. It is good!

Ordered Tamales, burrito bowl and fajitas. All flavor was excellent and portioned nicely. Recommend eating in with fajitas, or anything that should be served hot. Will try tacos next as I've heard they are excellent. Family owned and also great food truck that serves on Pax River base. Sorry didn't take photo, but will next time. I rate their food above any other Mexican in St Mary's county. It's a small place so don't expect large restaurant ambience, but service is fast and friendly. read more
