This is the time of great memories. Come here to this local burger joint and start to make them. I fondly remember our neighborhood burger spot (Crickets) and this is the new generation version. It is run by locals and full of local employees. It's were you go to see people you know and went to school with. Heck some of those kids working there may still be in school! The food is good, reasonably cheap and fast. If you want to "Buy Local", start here. When you come inside make a sharp turn and place your order. They have menus on the right hand side and take a look while you wait your turn. After you order, grab a spot inside or outside. Not a ton of space in or out, but enough and a lot of people just grab it to go which helps. After you order, wait your number and then pick up your prize. I have a huge soft spot for crabmeat and went with the crabcake sandwich. I bet their burgers are better. It wasn't bad, it was just good. Others in our party said the burgers were great. I'm such a consistent player that I never met a bad pecan pie nor a bad crab cake. I have a WIDE tolerance for my joy. I ordered a side of fries and they were ginormous. You only need one for every few people so be aware. Overall, super happy and look forward to my next visit. read more

This restaurant is a local institution. It's casual, relaxed and delicious. Indoor and outdoor seating. A friendly staff. It's quick, it's good. They do a nice job of advertising seasonal specials. It's a nice little family owned and run restaurant in the northern neck area. I have been here a couple of times to have lunch and dinner. They have wide variety of sandwiches and subs. My go to has been buffalo chicken sandwich with curly fries. Curly fries are very good. Nice and crispy. You have to order at the front and they assign a number to you. They will call your number once the order is ready. Price is nominal. Very affordable. Unfortunately, they don't have free water. You have to buy bottled water. Decent ambiance as well. read more

My favorite fast food place and its family operated! Real good food fast! Everything they have on the menu is excellent. Fun fact the owner is a huge Coke memorabilia collector. He has some of his collection inside the diner and outside is his locally famous "Coke" truck that he had made. What an amazing little restaurant! From the unique decor (extensive array of all things 'coca-cola'), to the vast menu and kind, efficient staff. The best part was that we had the honor and privilege of meeting and conversing with the 80 year-old original owner, who started the restaurant in 1987 with his late wife. What a memorable lunch! We arrived for an early lunch, so the place wasn't busy at all, but by the time we left, there was a steady flow of people grabbing to-go orders and the tables were filling up. The food itself was excellent! I had the grilled chicken and a "small" order of sweet potato fries. The "small" order of fries was HUGE! A full plate piled high with possibly the best SP fries I've ever had (even better than my home cooked ones!). The chicken was delicious! Not dry at all, and the tomato on the sandwich was a REAL tomato.... Ot one of those pink round slices you get at so many places! Hubs had the Reuben, a generous sized sandwich and potato salad (homemade, handed down recipe per the original owner)...he said all was delicious! The staff even made a special order cup of coffee for the hubs! This no-frills, retro-ish little fast-ish food joint quickly found its way into our hearts, and we look forward to many fun adventures that include stopping here for a nice, easy, non-pretentious meal in the future. Got there at 6:45, and they were out of roast beef. Got hamburger steak, mashed potatoes and peas. ($11.50) Hamburger steak was okay, gravy & onions were good. Peas were bland. Wife got an egg salad sandwich, and sweet potato fries, and she thought is was okay. When we got there, there was an older lady waiting for her ice cream order, and the lady told the girl making the ice cream, "I wanted a cone in the ice cream cup", and the girl that was working told her, "that's not what you said!" Then another lady in front of us told the same worker, "I called earlier", and the worker responded, "sometimes I put people on hold, and I forget them". read more

Ordered food at the counter, picked up when number announced placed on cafeteria trays. Food served on styrofoam plates and plastic utensils. Make your own drinks, iced tea dispenser nearly empty. Newsome's is consistently good. I keep wanting to try other things on the menu, but their Ruben is excellent and so is their steak and cheese so I keep getting those. A sandwich place needs to get both of those right and Newsome's does. They stay open till 9, taking orders till 8:30 pm. They take justifiable pride in getting good steak for that big ole steak and cheese. It costs more but you get more. The menu says it is an 8 -inch sub, but it's gotta be 10 or more inches long. Their Ruben is just right, but would be better on different bread. The onion tanglers and sweet potato fries are only delicious. Newsome's is clean, well-organized, consistent, and professional with an efficient, personable staff. I get momentarily frustrated when I go there, because Newsome's has a challenge to "Eat the Farm" that costs $35 if you can't eat it all. The Farm consists of about 5 pounds of hairy-backed man food topped off with a 32 -ounce milk shake. I know I could have pulled it off back in my 20s, but not now, even though there are 75 pounds more of me. That's the frustrating part. Those who pull off the challenge get the meal free, a bumper sticker and their name forever memorialized on the Wall of Fame. You can count on Newsome's to do you right at a good price. read more

First thing I want to say is that in full disclosure, this is my Son in Law and Daughters restaurant. That being said I do not nor will not give biased reviews, because I know people depend on these reviews to help them make decisions about their choice of food. The 5 stars is based on my lunch experience. This is not a fine dining facility nor do they claim to be. I highly recommend the steak and cheese. They can only be matched in Philly. I can usually eat a half of one, but because they are so good I sometimes attempt to eat a whole one, only to regret it. Every time I go in there between 11:30 an 1 they are super busy, but they are always quick to get the food out. Very friendly staff, great food, and quick service adds up to 5 stars. read more

A genius came up with this recipe. It costs 12 bucks and is worth every penny and more. It is delicious in so many ways with the spectacular flavors and combinations of flavors coming at you from more directions than arrows came at Custer. This was our first time here. We drove up and they have a walk up window to order your food because of COVID. We are lazy so we were so pleasantly surprised that their menu is online and you can order without paying and they will text you when your food is ready. Perfect. They have a wide selection of mainly sandwiches. I got a tuna melt, kids got hot dogs and husband got bbq sandwich. Food was great and portions were generous! Prices were good too. I thought he was joking but he was serious. A tidy small town place to grab a lunch.. staff was very friendly, food was served with a smile and a great seating space to eat. I took advantage of the crab cakes and wasn't disappointed. The menu consists of many of the hot metal grill choices. I was sold as soon as I walked in the door to a Diet Coke fountain service. I'm giving these folks a 4 because the food tasted good. There were a couple of glitches. First, I asked for a Ladies room to wash my hands. The young man, Talmadge, said there was no public restroom. So that was a little disheartening. We ordered burgers, it was nothing but a bun and meat patty. The meat patty was fresh and flavorful. However, since Talmadge didn't ask what we wanted on it, we thought it came with lettuce, tomato, pickles, etc. maybe they just had a bad day, so I'm not trying to throw them under the bus. Just make sure you've got some sort of wipes or hand sanitizer before you go and make sure you ask more questions than we did. read more

We found this little place while checking out the towns near our marina. This spot is the best! Britney and her family make everyone feel welcome during this hard time. They offer online ordering, phone orders and they have this cute little walk up window where you can place your orders and pick up your food. They have a loud speaker system so they can call your order number which is great cause you can safely wait in your car while waiting for your food. The service is quick and spot on every time with great food and friendly down home service! I definitely recommend going here.
