Awesome food, great service, and welcoming venue. Our party had the pulled pork, brisket, steak and cheese, and pork rinds. We consumed so fast that I didn't get any food pictures. As a group of foodies, it did not disappoint. We will definitely be returning soon. At the time of this review, the address was not correct. It's across from Westmoreland High School, just a quarter mile from the posted location. Don't miss it if you are in the area.

The ingredients were fresh and the bacon was delicious! They gave me 3 little containers of dressing, which was more than enough. My husband had the Chicago- ish dog and really liked it. The worker was patient and kind as we decided what to get and our food was prepared pretty quickly. They were not busy on this Saturday afternoon. The orders are to go and they have picnic tables available to eat at. The restaurant is located in an old brick house and the entrance is the black metal door. There are many great food choices in LaPlata, but this is a must try! I can't wait to try another salad!

We stepped inside and found the nice cozy lobby entertaining to see and read while we waited for the meals to be prepared. We ordered 4 dogs total and got 2 chips and 2 bottled drinks with the meals. The hot dog itself was insanely good and the bun was fresh n soft. We snagged 2 of the cheese and cheeto hotdogs. Those needed a little bit more cheese to hold it all together and probably should have eaten those there instead of driving home with them 20 min. It allowed the cheetos to get soft and mushy from the hot steam. We also got 2 other dogs. One had tomatoes, cheese, and bacon on it. Believe me it was loaded with bacon. You would love this one if you love bacon. Just maybe needed a lil more of the cheese sauce. Was a lil dry. The last one was a classic chili dog which was our favorite one we had. Would go back to try a few of the others or the enormous salads we saw in there. Just remember to pay or ask for more sauce next time. Jake n kev

They also came with fries or onion rings, funnel cake fries, and a drink of your choice. Two of the guys had the root beer and said it was pretty good. Now as for the dogs, the two guys that had the coneys were happy with them, although one was hoping for a little more spice from the chili, but it was by no means bad. The burnt ends dog was said to be pretty freaking good. As for the American dog, we'll that was a different story. It wasn't a bad dog, but it tasted like it had been boil cooked and not cooked on the griddle. Additionally, it wasn't really that warm. I guess warm is a good description for it. It would have been better if it was hot and you could see some cooking marks on it. Alas, it was and had neither. But again, it wasn't a bad dog, but it could have been much better. The onion rings were pretty tasty though, as were the funnel cake fries and crinkle cut fries. This night was Wednesday, so it was trivia night. At 6:30. At about 6:00 people really started to come in, and by 6:30, the place was packed. Guess trivia night is a big hit... The people working there were super friendly and you fealt as if they were happy to be there. I would have given it 5 stars, but tbe warm dog just brought my experience down a bit. But don't let that stop you from going there, because you'll probably have a good time with good food and good people.

The moment we arrived, it was clear how much excitement this place has already generated -- people were willing to wait in the cold just to get inside. And once you step in, you understand why. The decor is stunning. Guests immediately started taking photos of the walls and ordering area, and I did too. The space is vibrant, modern but with a throwback feel, and it sets the tone before you even place your order. Now, the burgers. Incredibly tasty. Perfectly smashed, full of flavor, and cooked just right. You can tell a lot of care went into crafting the menu, and the limited opening‑day selection was a smart move, it kept the line moving and made decisions easy. The atmosphere was another highlight. At one point, a to‑go customer ended up sitting with others when the place filled up, and it sparked a friendly conversation between a loyal customer from the previous location and someone brand new. That kind of organic community moment says a lot about the environment Smash House is creating. Overall experience was deliciously good. Would recommend.

I ordered the OG Smash burger with double patty and made it a combo to add on the fries and a drink. Everything tasted good, but the burger did come out a bit greasy. That's expected though with a smash burger or any burger honestly. The smash sauce on the burger tasted very similar to spicy mayo and the fries were nicely crispy. The fountain drink options included Coke, Diet Coke, Sprite, Lemonade, Mr. Pibb, etc. I was told this was their new location and the interior looked nice. However, when the restaurant got busy, it felt very cramped given their setup. There was a good amount of seating, however not much room to wait for your order without feeling like you are standing in the way when all seats were taken. The drink station was also all the way in the back and becomes a one way path when it gets busy. The path to get from placing your order at the cashier up at the front, to the drink area in the back, got slim when busy since people were sitting at the tables and the bar. Although my first time here was a bit overwhelming given how busy it was, this place was a great option to get your smash burger fix! They also have other options including hot dogs, chopped cheese, tacos, etc. so there's something for everyone! I enjoy supporting local businesses and I'll definitely be back to try some of their other menu items!

The hubs and I stopped by for an early lunch, and we tried: their BBQ (slow-roasted prime pork shoulder in pulled pork form, served in a potato bun with coleslaw; wasn't a fan of this, as while the buns were generously packed with the pork, the pulled pork was just too wet and vinegary for my taste), the Junkyard Dog (sloppy joe, cheese sauce, shredded cheddar, and red onion; this was just okay), the Kim Dog Un (kimchi and wasabi peas; really enjoyed this, as the kimchi was super well-fermented to perfection, and the wasabi peas added a very nice touch to it! Kind of reminded me of a kimchi jjigae/budae jjigae in a bun!), a side of Mom's Mac 'n Cheese (kind of bland), and the red bliss potato salad (too dill-centric). They use Oscar Mayer all-beef dogs. This time, (Apr 2026), the "big" one of their two food trucks was among the dozen vendors invited to Food Truck Friday at the Elkridge Volunteer Fire Department. This larger Catalyst truck serves their full menu: dogs, smash burgers, chicken sandwiches, fries, soft drinks, and more snacks, sides, and sweets. Their menu has ten dressed dogs, vegan dogs, and fourteen toppings for build-it-yourself requests. There are combos that save you a few dollars. Ok, usually, they have those soft beverages, but for this event, the VFD is the sole beverage-seller, at good prices, as a bit of a fundraiser. Of course, we get Catalyst's Chicago dog! Tyler always has poppyseed buns he makes from fresh-baked rolls! They make a perfect mix of toppings with genuine short bitey sport peppers, bright tangy relish and a pickle wedge, fresh dense juicy tomato chunks, bright chopped white onions, good old yellow mustard. And while that's our go-to, we admit we're coming back to try other vendors at Food Truck Fridays at the Elkridge Volunteer Fire Department! But most of all, we're looking forward to Catalyst Hot Dog's brick-and-mortar opening in Burtonsville in the fall of 2026! Oh, and a pro tip: If the listed hot-dog event is at a smaller venue, call that venue ahead of time. Sometimes the events cancel or change dates without enough notice for Catalyst to post about it.
