We popped in to El Mex while visiting Lake Bowen. I loved, loved, loved the artwork on the walls. Stunning. Per our usual we ordered Fresh Guacamole with all the goodies. It was delicious and refreshing. The hubby had the Carnitas Tacos and I had the Carne Asada tacos. The hubby said these were the closest to the California street tacos we miss. read more

Delicious Vegan Friendly meal item Ate lunch here with a large group of friends, selected because they had a vegan option. Ordered the veggie fajitas with no cheese, no sour cream. Staff was great, they immediately started taking beverage orders and everyone enjoyed the chips and salsa. Everyone liked the food and service, wish I lived closer to return regularly.. Our lunch take out order was close to $40 for 2 burritos, nachos supreme and a side of guacamole and it was pathetic. Pictures attached! Do not go here. It's a giant rip off. I will never order again and I will warn all my friends from ordering from here. There are too many food options to settle for this, I even tipped $5 for the takeout order because the guy seemed to understand what I was asking for. I don't like queso so I just asked for shredded cheese instead of a cheese sauce... there was not any cheese at all in the burritos and barely any on the "nachos". This was a giant rip off. Well I have given El Mex another try- should not have. Food was cold - most places the plates are super hot not here, the service was slow and to boot they charge an extra 4% on top of your bill for using a credit card. Terrible on multiple levels. Waiter took forever to initially come to the table and return with 3 waters. Chips were stale and flavorless. After the food finally arrived every plate and it's contents were cold and the portions were small. Waiter only came to the table one time between the food arriving and taking our order. This is the last time I will visit, not to fail to mention that this is not the first time this type of situation has occurred at this place. Also when I got to the counter to pay the bill I was informed that THERE IS A 4% UP CHARGE TO USE A CREDIT OR DEBIT CARD!!! Slow service. Took a long time before my drink was refilled. Several minutes before anyone appeared to seat us and there was only 2 booths full at the moment. Never asked to refill chips or check on us. Only time we saw a waiter was to take order and bring food. Never even brought the bill had to go up front to get it. Just as i was about to pull off a short man ran, banged on my girlfriends window, and started yelling we never paid. Usually don't have a problem with this place but I placed a to-go order today for a shrimp quesadilla and the shrimp were raw. I don't usually complain but when I called up there to let them know about the undercooked shrimp the man who answered called our conversation useless and was extremely rude. Prob my worst experience eating Mexican food. I got steak nachos, was $7-$8 bucks. I got about 10 soggy nachos covered with about 3 pieces of meat. Wilted lettuce, what smelled like rotten guacamole, mixed with sour cream. A couple pieces of tomatoes. I took one bite tried to get the owners attention. We were in a pretty big group he spoke to everyone except our party. I ordered a beer, was told the owner would bring it over. I'm assuming because she was under age. Never brought it over, the waitress brought it over warm 20 min later. People like it, it's why we went. We had a party of 12, none of us will be going back. read more

This place sucks!! Worst service, food order was not correct, took 40 mins for them to take our drink order, another 20 after that to order food, then 40 mins to get food. This restaurant was hosting a car show event so why would you not properly staff your business when you know you will be busy. Just plain poor management all the way around!!!! I don't even want to give them a star. My dad went there today and placed to go. They had just opened and he was the second person in there. He waited for a while for them to even take his order and then after paying, and waiting 40 minutes, they had still not brought him his food. In fact they had sat and served food to several people who came in after him. They also stood around talking and joking as if they didn't have a customer to serve. My dad was so angry at the lack of respect that he left without getting his money back. That will be the last dime they get from our family and we recommend spending your money in the other Mexican restaurants nearby. New businesses can't afford to be so rude! read more

This is by far the WORST Mexican Restaurant ever. We got a table right away but it was down hill from there. The place was filthy dirty for starters, so were the menus. It took us twenty minutes for us to get a waitress and menus. We tried to order a pitcher of beer and they didnt know how to even ring it up... when we had been there a week or so before and had ordered one. Twenty went by just to order drinks. Then we had to go to the bar to get our second drinks because our waitress was MIA. When she finally came to our table we still didn't have menu's dirty ones at that. Don't places know that's where most of your germs come from, wash your menus. When we were able to order another twenty minutes went by, by the time we got food (not our food mind you) it was not cold, it was stone cold. When we were able to flag someone on the wait staff to have our order fixed. That took about ten more minutes. When our food arrived it was HORRIBLE!!!! The ground beef in my tacos was just that ground beef absolutely no flavor what so ever. My husband's ordered his without sour cream and it was dumped on top. His food was cold as well. We sent our plates back and another fifteen minutes went by just to reheat. We flagged down the manager and told him of our situation he was very apologetic and comped us our whole bill drinks and all. Now we are not the kind people that go around trying to get a free meal. But I wouldn't have paid for that meal either way. The manager was the only bright spot in the place. He was running around cleaning tables, running food and taking orders. Some of the wait staff needs to either be fired or re trained and their cell phones have no place on the floor. We saw at least three of the wait staff including our waitress texting on their phones while customers were waiting for some kind of service. Over all it took us almost 2 1/2 hour to try to have two drinks and Mexican food. We live less than ten minutes from this restaurant and we will never go back. I have no idea how these other people can post such positive reviews they are either related to the owners, are friends to the family or are just down right not being honest. If I was able to give less than one Star I would. read more
