I had the lunch chicken taquitos with lettuce, guacamole, sour cream, salsa verde and three taquitos. They were crisp, the chicken was tender and flavorful. My friend had a small taco salad, which he ate in its entirety. The lunch crowd rolled in and it was a decent crowd, indicating popularity and what seemed like regulars. That's always a good sign. Even better, the bill arrived and together it was $22 and some change. With tip, still well under $30 and that's pretty good value. It's not a stand-out, must visit, Mexican restaurant, but it's good. I wouldn't make a special destination trip here, but in the general area, this is a solid choice.

I ate at Mezcal many times because it has a convenient location, but after a while, it was clear that it's kind of a bad restaurant. Service is usually fine-to-great. That's certainly never been the problem. I've dined in and gotten taken out multiple times and have never gotten bad service. Sadly, I can't really recall a single meal that I've actually enjoyed. Mexican food is supposed to be bold and flavorful. It doesn't necessarily need to be spicy, and often times it isn't. One thing it simply cannot be is bland. Unfortunately, Mezcal's food is almost unbelievably bland. To make matters worse, they don't actually have any hot sauces that add spice. I've had more than enough meals at this restaurant to conclude that it wasn't an off day. It simply is the reality of this restaurant: good-to-great service but terrible food.
