My husband and I stopped there to have a late lunch after dropping off our kids at work. I had a chile relleno with a chicken taco, rice and beans. My husband had a chile verde burrito. My chile relleno and chicken taco were so full of flavor, rice was fluffy and beans were cooked just right. My husband's chile Verde burrito was huge! Call to verify they are open before you spend $6 per gallon gas driving there. Their closing time on Sun is whatever they want it to be without warning. My family (hubby & 3yo) visited this place for a little day adventure. We have eaten at the El Mexicano in forest falls so we were excited to eat here. This place is located in the heart of Oak Glen, surrounded by trees and nature. The restaurant is ran by an older Hispanic couple. They were so attentive, the food was delicious and had that homemade feel. You can sit indoors or out doors, but I recommend outdoors to get the full experience. When you go up to Oak Glen to get some cooler air and a "mountain feel" check out this place! It's a small place, nestled in the trees, with excellent food, and friendly service! They say you can tell if a Mexican restaurant has good food by their salsa, well the salsa was homemade and just the right consistency to enjoy with the tortilla chips. They had a decent size menu with several good choices in which to order from. I ordered a combination plate with a enchilada,, beans and rice. They made me a chicken enchilada suiza per my request at a $2 up charge from the cheese enchilada on the menu. It was the best I've ever had! read more

We have driven by so many times and never able to stop until today. We had an early lunch, Carnitas burrito with green sauce and cheese and an ice-cold beer hit the spot. The service was great, but 3 different servers kept asking if we needed anything, but I guess that is good. I had heard so many good things about their food and on this past Saturday, my boyfriend and I were able to stop and get Take Out. We met the owner, Leonardo and he was so helpful and went over the different foods on the menu. Leonardo has owned the restaurant for the past year and a half. While waiting for my order, I could see through the restaurant's windows, how much indoor seating they had. The restaurant also has a front and back patio, with plenty of seating, The atmosphere is nice and relaxing. I DEFINITELY look forward to coming back. Alright. So. I don't give bad reviews lightly, I'm quicker to praise than to condemn. This place earned it. First, the service was incredibly slow and inconsistent. We waited at least twenty minutes before our order was taken (mind you, it wasn't busy at ALL) and that was only after my sister got up to ask the attendant if we ordered at register or not. No drinks poured, no water offered. Nothing. This continued with the waitress sporadically leaving us high and dry, took forever to bring out a pitcher, and it goes on. Second, the prices for soda (a can of it) was ludicrous and the tea was watered down and awful. Thirdly, the food. The food was passable and I at least enjoyed my tamale, but my father's burrito was flavorless albeit generous with the portion. The worst of it though? They don't mention any allergens in their menu and my mother's enchilada had peanut product in it -- which she's very allergic to. If that wasn't bad enough, the staff was COMPLETELY uncaring, rude, and didn't seem at all upset that my mother was harmed by their negligence. No discount, no apologies, nothing. Me and my family have been wanting to try this restaurant for sometime now and finally had the opportunity. The food was very good but they extremely overcharge. It was a family of six total and we split the bill two ways. We were charged 18% gratuity for a large party on both of our checks I brought it to the attention of the man checking me out at the cash register and he told me that is how it is and did not remove it for me. I also noticed that they charged us an 8% sales tax for California when everybody else up there was charging us 7.75%, he did not provide a receipt to me or my father. They nickel and dime for everything such as another bowl of chips charging $1.50 when 99% of Mexican restaurants especially charging the money that this establishment is, give you complimentary chips and salsa throughout your visit. Me and my family will never be attending this restaurant again and I had several other friends and family members that were waiting for my review because they also have visited Oakland many times over the years and have considered this restaurant. As I was walking there was a huge water puddle on the stairway and I slipped and fell and got injured badly. We went here today, apple season is in full swing so the area was packed. They had a guy doing live music out front and the outside seating out front was crowded but we went outback and there was plenty of seating as well as seating inside. Fast service and good food. I feel the beans can use a bit of seasoning but the shredded beef was fantastic. Hubby got the Gordita with chicken and he loved it. Their "apple season" menu which is a bit more pricey than the off season one doesn't have a kids menu that's the only negative I can find. Great service and build your own michaladas. Mmmm read more

The worst service I have ever received. We waited 1.5 hours for our food after ordering (this is not an exaggeration). After receiving our food we still had not received silverware to eat our food. I went in and asked to speak to the manager. She sent a server to come talk to me instead and then yelled from the kitchen "what do you want me to do about it?" And lower our standards we did. Even still, the food and the service were nothing to brag about. We showed up at around 2:30 pm on a Saturday, having driven around for literally hours trying to meet up with friends at the nearby "Riley's Apple Farm" (turns out that there are three different locations - who knew?). By then, needless to say, we were sniping at each other out of grouchiness and low blood sugar. We needed some good food, pronto. It took us a while to flag down a waitress. When I placed my order, I tried to describe what I wanted - did they have a taco salad, e.g. a salad in a tortilla bowl? The waitress said, "Oh, yes." But when my food finally arrived, it looked nothing like a taco salad; it was a tostada with some lettuce thrown on top. On any normal day, this would have slightly irked me.... but on this day of all days, I wanted what I freaking ordered!!!! So I sent the tostada back, and insisted upon the salad that I ordered. (The waitress claimed that she thought I wanted a tostada.... whatever.) It took a while for the re-ordered taco salad to come out. When it did, I wolfed it down, but more out of hunger and desperation than out of deliciousness. The salad was nothing but average. Some of my other companions seemed to have issues requesting things as simple as silverware and napkins and water, which also took a while to come. Considering the place wasn't that busy, the bad service is a little perplexing. On the bright side, we sat out in the sunshine and listened to the live band playing, and did our best to enjoy ourselves. You really can't beat the setting. But would I return? This is evident not only in its lack of size, but in my following point. 2. SERVICE IS SLOW. I wanted to be graceful about their slow service because the restaurant was busy. It' doesn't take an hour to make & serve nachos, especially when you consider the quality of the food that arrived. It was so basic, so simple, I couldn't believe it took so long to prepare & serve. You need to be proactive with the wait staff to ask for beverage refills, more chips & salsa or your bill. It's a bit ridiculous. 3. The food is average. It's definitely not worth a wait, but considering it's one of a few eateries in the area, there's not much you can do. The wait time is less here than other places during the overcrowded apple season, but it's probably not just because of other eateries' more convenient location. I'll bet it's because of the food. My husband and I rode our bikes up for an early dinner. He ordered a combo plate and I ordered a hard Taco and a chlii relleno, both a La carte. The waiter brought my husband's dinner and a Taco for me. I thought he was going to return with my relleno, but he never did. We waited quite awhile but he never came back outside, even to check on us. My husband went in to inquire and was told that even though it was on the ticket, it somehow wasn't prepared. I told them not to make it then because my husband was half done with his meal. Even though they removed it from our check, we never received an apology nor did our waiter ever come check on us. This is a great little location to get some Mexican food. Decided to get the taco platter with shredded beef. The meal was great the beans and rice were authentically homemade. The tacos were yummy. Been here twice... Wasn't overly impressed either time. I don't consider myself to be picky or demanding. To be treated with a basic level of restaurant hospitality, perhaps I should have been. For no apparent reason. Plan on 45 minutes for food at least. The first time we went, it wasn't crowded. The second time, it was. Definitely more issues the second time around. We sat outside due to crowdedness. We ordered a pitcher of water and 4 iced teas. We received 1 iced tea... Never received the others. Apparently they were brewing more, but it takes longer than an hour to brew...because we were eventually told that we weren't going to get more teas. We weren't offered any other drinks. At least the single tea was complimentary. Probably cost them 3 cents for water. Speaking of water, we received one pitcher, which only filled up 2 out of 3 glasses. Long wait for another. Ended up sharing. Because we were seated outside, we were partially in the sun. About 30 minutes into waiting for food, the crowd died down and several tables in the shade opened up. We didn't take all our stuff and move... We ASKED if we could be moved. No line. Several open tables. Shouldn't a restaurant accommodate the customer if the request is reasonable? The waitress literally snapped, "No!" at us because, "it would mess everything up." Uh, what? I have friends that work in the restaurant industry. I understand that each waitress has a seating area and that, WHEN A RESTAURANT IS BUSY with waiting customers, this is difficult, but not impossible to accommodate. The restaurant was not busy at the time... Hence the several open tables in the shade with no wait. Even if our request truly was impossible to accommodate, the response was inappropriate. Okay food.
