Walked in and were seated right away. I'm from Texas and I'm also Mexican. I'm a little picky about my Tex Mex! Loved that they brought us warm, crispy chips and salsa. We asked for a hot salsa and they brought us some out and it was fresh and hot (spicy hot)!! It was sooo good!!! We ordered the cheese and it was white cheese. Not common in Texas so it was different and delicious! We then ordered our good and it was very good and hot. The refried beans need more flavor. The restaurant is clean and bright. I'm more used to banners and colored lights everywhere...lol. I was overall happy with everything and will be back when visiting. read more

Pretty typical mexican food. We were seated immediately, 3 adults and a 5 year old. Located in a strip mall so plenty of parking. Resturant was clean and our server was effieient but not especially friendly. Chips were also served immediately. But the salsa was a bit spicy for us but we had an order of queso that was very tasty and not at all spicy. My hubby and I split chicken fajitas that came with rice and beans, guacamole, pico, lettuce and sour cream. An order for one was more than enough for us both. We stopped by with the team after our kids' game. We had a reservation for 20. We simply requested to sit closer together at the empty tables. The manager yelled at us and kept saying no as we ended up with about 30 people in our party coming over after the game. The manager was absolutely disgusting not even wanting to seat everyone. Telling us to all just sit where he had reserved which wasn't enough seats. We weren't just hanging out everyone was paying customers. BEST CRAB QUESADILLA EVER! (tho they might never have it again...) My family and I have ended up returning here pretty often. It's different from our usual Mexican place and seems to use more variety in its vegetables, which I appreciate. It's a nice change of pace and while it won't ever completely replace the place we love to go to it's now one we will consider if we want Mexican. The Burritos Rancheros come with unique vegetables inside, such as broccoli and carrots. The meat inside was ok but I wasn't fond of the queso inside. I was impressed with the variety of vegetables (lots of red bell peppers, some green bell peppers, onions, some mushrooms and some slices of squash) that come with the fajitas but none of the meats impressed me so it's not something I would want to get again. The Pollo Norteño isn't on the menu but they can still make it. I personally enjoyed it without the shrimp so I bet they already have something similar without the shrimp. I will have to double check when I go back. Great good, great service. Really good lunch spot. The best Mexican restaurant cheese dip I've had.

We're new to the community, discovering, comparing and contrasting the area restaurants... I've been to another Mexican restaurant in the area multiple times but didn't realize this gem was tucked away at the corner at Wolf River Blvd and Houston Levee. On a Sunday around noon, I didn't have to wait for a table. Service by Tito has been impeccable. Prices are fair. Food is good-but not great (hence the one star deduction). The restaurant is very clean and well maintained. There are a lot of TVs around the restaurant playing sports--although interestingly they're closing early for the "big game" this afternoon. The tacos al carbon were good but a little chewy for my taste. As a bonus, they serve coke products (yes!)! I'm happy. You will be too. Pro tip: lunch specials are valid on Saturdays, too. read more

Review update since it won't let me edit anymore. :( :( :( I loved the decorations- they had a lot of little touches which were actually authentic decorations. The bar looked really well-done like they really cared about it. The chairs reminded me of ones my brother used to make in Mexico. The salsa was good, too. I liked the burritos I got. They had different vegetables than usual, like broccoli and carrots instead of onions and peppers. I liked it a lot. The horchata was really good and didn't have a chalky taste like most places do. I brought my friends here and Ms. D said she likes the enchiladas but next time she'd rather get two beef ones, one bean and cheese, and leave out the chicken one. Also she'd like to leave off tomato and lettuce. Since I'm sure I'll be back here again with them I wanted to put this here to remind me so she'll super enjoy her food next time we visit. read more

I wish I had kept a copy of the receipt so I could call out the crap server we had. He was terrible! We received our drinks and cheese dip before we got chips and salsa, or even silverware. When we mentioned it, he abruptly said "it's coming ok" and walked off. He didn't pay attention to what was being said to him and got my wife's food wrong. He breezed by after the food came and halfheartedly check on us, but then again, he didn't listen. She looked at me in disbelief as he walked off during mid sentence. He then was absent for 10 minutes so she just ate it without half of what she wanted. Food was meh. Chips and Salsa are blah. Rice was over cooked to the point of not even being whole grains anymore. Fajita steak was dry and flavorless. No one finished their meals and we just tried to get out of there as fast as possible. My beef burrito was pretty good but that's it as positivity goes. Icing on the cake was being overcharged by the girl at the front register. I saw an old friend and was outside talking to him when "C" paid. She came outside and said "on top of sucking it was ridiculously expensive". $47 and some change is what we were charged. We usually all get the same thing at all Mexi Places. I knew there was no way it was that much and went in to challenge the bill as she didn't have the itemized copy. Register lady grabs the ticket and says " oh I read it wrong, that's a 2 and not a 7". She rang it out for a full $5 more than what it really was. Now, I don't know how she could make that mistake but I am sure I'm never going to find out if it's better a second time. I loved the El Mezcal on Perkins when I was a youngster. I have found that I don't like any of the ones I've been to in the past decade plus though. Had a decent dinner. We went in on a Friday evening for dinner. We were immediately seated and someone came right over to take our drink order and to bring chips and salsa. This was our first visit here. Mexican is often our preferred go to place when we are in an area outside our usual trek. First of all, the service was outstanding. We never really needed anything from our server, but he made sure he was nearby and checking on us in case we did. We started off with cheese dip. It was a nice big bowl of cheese dip. It was the perfect thickness for me. Some are pretty runny. This was warm and thick. We ordered the Fajitas for two with beef, chicken and shrimp. They serve theirs with sliced yellow squash and mushrooms in addition to the usual veggies. We ordered ours with no peppers (hubby cannot eat them). I also requested double beans instead of beans and rice. Both special requests came out as ordered. The meal was as perfectas the service. We will visit again when we are in the area. read more

Mexican food. Our favorite. Being raised in Arizona gave us a whole different perspective on Mexican food. My wife even worked in a Mexican restaurant as a teenager. We have a very distinct palette for it. Saying that El Mezcal is not too bad. As soon as we walked in we expected it to be pretty good as everyone working there were Hispanic. The restaurant was very clean including the bathrooms. The service was very quick and we got our drinks right away. Bonus, they have Dr. Pepper for my wife. The food was okay. Like I said before, Mexican food is our favorite so we are picky. I had the #3 with a chicken enchilada with verde (green) sauce, a carne asada taco and the chili relleno. Needless to say I couldn't eat it all. The chicken enchilada was pretty darn good, the rest of it was not bad. My wife had the #3 with a cheese enchilada with the red sauce, a soft chicken taco and the chili relleno. She said all of her food was okay, middle of the road. All together we are very pleased with the service and the cleanliness, we just wish the food was a little better with a little more kick. read more

This is almost like most Mexican restaurants but not quite the same. In addition to the typical foods you see at places like this, they also have empanadas and crab quesadillas. The salsa is lame, the chips are ok, the chimichanga is fairly good, chilli relleno was below average, guacamole was fairly good. DO NOT GET THE FRIED ICE CREAM!!!! I ordered food online from EL mazcal, Germantown,TN I picked up the take out from the restaurant. The chicken was very dry, no white sauce in it. When I called back the restaurant, the counter man said , we will return your money back. I said I do not want my money back ,I m just informing you because this is happening second time. I got very arrogant answer from him saying we do not want your business. I said what kind of answer is this...... instead of improving your quality of food , he was saying we don't want your business.... whenever we go to the restaurant, they served us in cracked one or a dirty plates...this business does not have good customer service. This is the worst restaurant and service I have ever received! Waiter told us he was busy. We waited 1.5 hours and some of our table didn't even get drinks. The manager then wanted to fight us and told us that there were too many people to listen and literally washed his hands of us and our business. Okay, first of all, since I'm from Texas, I look for "TexMex". This place has it and it's not bad. You really need to take some time to know about the rice and beans, enchilada, and chimichanga. After those items pass the test, you have a good TexMex restaurant. I've brought some friends in from Dallas, and they don't complain. Worst dining experience ever in my life. Don't know how the food tastes because after an hour and a half, we never even got our order taken. Our server, Benito i believe, was annoyed by us even asking for drinks after 45 mins and informed us rudely, "can't you see im busy?" before walking off while we were trying to order. We asked the hostess of we could get a new server. He then came back to the table and got confrontational with 2 people in our party of 6 about us asking for a new server.
