First, let me begin by saying this place is a hidden gem. I'm often in the poplar area, yet I never noticed this restaurant. I decided to dine here for dinner, and I'm so happy that I did. This place definitely has a lot of traffic in and out, but the wait time is short. In the process of waiting for a table I had the bartender make me a specialty beverage of choice. This tropical flavored beverage didn't disappoint. What's even better is my table was ready upon receiving my drink. Now for the food! I ordered the chicken chimichanga as my meal of choice. Everything about the ingredients, spices, etc that are used in this restaurant are completely fresh without a doubt. This was the BEST authentic Mexican food that I've had thus far in Memphis. The service is amazing, and the manager/owner is an amazing overseer in being sure that he personally greets and meets the satisfaction of every customer. I think one star is being too generous for the experience we had. Our server, a red haired woman who never even gave us her name, provided some of the worst service I've experienced in a long time. I understand restaurants get busy, but this was a Wednesday night. While they had customers, it was nowhere near busy enough to excuse the level of service we received. The entire experience was slow, disorganized, and careless. We ordered drinks and an appetizer. The cheese dip arrived without any extra bowls for sharing. Not a huge deal, so we let it go. We then ordered our meals. My food came out first, but my friend, who ordered the exact same thing, didn't receive hers. We spent the next 10 minutes trying to get our server's attention while my food sat getting cold. We wanted to eat together, and I was also missing all the fajita fixings. When we finally tracked her down and asked where the other meal was, she didn't apologize. She simply walked away. A few minutes later she brought the fajita fixings, but it took another 10 minutes before my friend's food finally arrived. We had waited so long that a fly landed in one of the side dishes. By that point, we were ready to leave. After finishing our meal, which I barely ate because it was cold, I was ready to just pay and get out. We waited again for our server to return. She never did. We eventually flagged her down, and it took forever to get our check. First, she brought someone else's ticket and credit card to our table. Then came the biggest issue of the night. My original bill was $42, but I was charged $60. My friend's bill had a similar issue. We immediately spoke with the manager. He took back both copies of our receipts and told us he would handle everything. He apologized, said he would issue a refund, and assured us he would take care of it. As of this review, that refund still hasn't happened. What makes this even more frustrating is that the manager on duty appeared to witness most of our experience. Throughout the evening, he kept telling us our server would be back shortly, but nothing improved. It wasn't until the billing errors occurred that he finally stepped in. Terrible service, extremely long wait times, billing issues, and promises that were never followed through on. Be very careful if you dine here and double check your receipt before paying. I ordered 3 appetizers prior to working nightshift at LeBonheur, my time is limited. Picked it up and got home and one of the appetizers was missing. The tab was $41 gratuity tip included (strange for 1 person and had to pay for chips with x2 dips and no salsa included - isnt that ironic) Call Salsa's and let them know an item was missing. The hostess was sweet and said she'd have it ready in an hour. I asked if she could also include some salsa she said, sure. I go to pick up the missing item. Its not ready- ( I have to be at the hospital in an hour) I wait. When the dip was ready. The owner was standing at hostess and I open the bag and there is no salsa? I ask, Can i get some salsa? The owner tells me, NO. I have to pay for that separate? I was not happy and turned to leave but made no fuss because I was now running late for work, I get in my car and the owner is standing next to my car? I ask, Can i help you? Thinking maybe he was there to hand me salsa? He angrily asks me if I flicked him off? I was in shock? What? No! I told him that it was concerning for him to follow me to my car and tried to summarize how I had to come back for a missing item. Then he shouts for me not to come back. I can't diagnosis him as I care for sick infants, but he is not stable. It is very concerning that he would follow a woman who is by herself to her car. Food wasn't great, overpriced and most insane encounter I have ever had with a restaurant. I worry for the female employees. read more

Looked like they were steamed or microwaved. No browning at all on anything and zero fajita smell. The pico was void of any lime juice, which is unforgivable and lazy. He has changed the hours, requires 1 check per table for parties of 10, and has hired a rude and hateful hostess. When we asked for an exception this time with the check since we didn't know the policy he said no - called us Karen's and told us to not come back and none of our friends were welcome either. We were shocked as he was so unprofessional. We will not be back as long as he is running the restaurant. A group of friends has been coming to this restaurant monthly for more than 20 years. Upon arrival, we learned for the first time that our group of ten had to pay with one check. When we asked for an exception, we were informed that we were advised on the policy upon arrival and there would be no exception. None of us have cash, so I explained that our other option would have been to leave. This manager (not Caesar) said we should leave and not come back. The food is good or we wouldn't have been coming for 20 years, but we will honor his rudeness and we won't be back....ever. It was a ribeye that was crap quality (chewy like a low end steak). With a watery sauce and three slices of mushrooms. It came out medium rare though.. which was good. Now a lot of folks will think this was good. But it sucked. Mainly because the menu and item totally didnt match that was described. The steak was very low quality. The margaritas were very sugary.. even though they were the fancy especials. $12 each. This place kinda sucks. Salsa is one of those places where atmosphere, extensive menu and attentive staff come together to create a great experience. Portions are generous and the Top Shelf Margarita is inexpensive and highly recommended. Service is quick and food was hot and tasty. My shrimp was cooked perfect, as was my wife's Carne Asada. There is also a nice patio area just outside that you can bring your food and drinks to, but I don't believe they provide service to that area. Expected to receive "large" shrimps but received the smallest shrimps imaginable. Asked the manager, David, why the shrimps are so small, he explained that the large shrimps were cut in pieces and that these would be in fact large shrimps. I've told him that the Manue in this case would be misleading and that large shrimps should be in fact what the word says, large or jumbo. He, insisted that I "have not to show him what I had in mind when ordering, and that he would be done, good night!" So, I have not only a different expectation about how large shrimps should look like, but also how a manager should treat customers! Very disappointed in both! read more

I came here with a Pokemon Go group (because I am a nerd) to celebrate someone achieving level 40 (the max level). We all had a fun time hanging out together but the food was just ok to me. There's not a lot of things on the menu to choose from but I feel like what I chose wasn't as flavorful as I was expecting it to be. I liked it and ate all of it but it's nothing I would crave and have to have again. Hubby mentioned his burrito wasn't good (I forgot to snag a taste). The water also tastes odd and they gave hubby a flat coke (which they replaced with a better one, thankfully). We stopped in for dinner last night and the place was packed with people waiting outside! We were able to get two seats and the bar and I see what the wait is about! The complementary chips are seasoned and together with their salsa it's amazing. I had the veggie burrito, no cheese and it was huge and the flavors were excellent. The burrito was packed with mushrooms that had so much flavor and not over cooked that I had to do a double take to make sure they weren't meat. It was served with refried beans and rice. An hour later I was told it'll be 25 minutes and that same table was waiting for their check? The hostess changed the reason for the delay several times. We were finally seated after an hour and a half. Our food was less than mediocre and service was terrible. We finally ordered cheese dip but didn't have baskets of chips to enjoy it for over 20 min. We have been regulars for years and love the Al Tiempo Salad, the tacos (both soft and hand made shell), the spinach dip is among the best in town and the salsa is of course excellent.
