There are two of these in Park Slope, both with a lovely selection of jewelry and some choice cards and candles. Definitely a good place to shop for a gift for someone. The one I have gone to more frequently is the one on 5th avenue, but I ventured over to the 7th avenue branch this past weekend and was happy with the overall selection and service there, too. Was just in there with my wife and the shop was about to close, which we didn't realize- guess the shop owner didn't realize I speak Spanish and my partner is Puerto Rican- he was on the phone and said " waiting on two fat women who are only looking at the sterling silver to leave" in Spanish. I went by El Milagro when I was in the neighborhood looking at apartments. First, I do not know what the negative reviews are about. Definitely the decor of the store (which is under new management), is geared towards women and people interested in southwestern art/ jewelry/ decor. I met the owner/ manager himself and his cute little dog and they were both very nice - the dog was a cutie and the manager let me try on a ton of earrings before I settled on one pair of silver earrings with a cool design and a very different look. The earrings came to $30, which is not that expensive in my opinion. Yes, they do have more expensive jewelry, but it is a matter of budgeting what you as the customer want to spend and not going above your limit. Clearly some of the jewelry is custom made and some of it is imported, so that should also factor into any decisions. As I regularly buy custom earrings for $20 or above, $30 is not super expensive for me. Next time I am in this part of Park Slope I will definitely stop by again, they have a wide selection of items and, yes, they would probably have something that would make a very good present for someone, especially if I could get something on sale. read more

Bought a "jade" ring for $200, more than I'd ever spent on a ring for myself. The salesman was wearing a black one himself. I loved it, but..with in three months stones had fallen out. I brought it back, and he pretended to have sold it to me years back (a lie). No help was offered just attitude, and he told me to go to another store to have it fixed. When I brought it there, he said it wasn't jade, and it cost another $120 to get fixed. A $320 fake jade ring? Next time I'll skip this experience. You should too. I'm sure most of the merchandise is made by poor Mexicans and over-priced to supplement his yuppie attitude. read more

I was an occasional customer (for 15+ years) until one Christmas Eve. I stopped to purchase several pairs of earrings. I was not greeted by the short dark haired snobby Spanish speaking man with a scowl, instead I was watched carefully as I moved throughout the store admiring the beautiful jewelry displays , never to be offered any assistance, so I walked out disappointed, annoyed, could not believe I was just racially profiled in my own community. My husband has bought me a few pieces from here, mostly because it's across the street. The last necklace was over $200, and I wouldn't mind the price if the product were quality. I bought matching earrings for $100, and 11 months later, they broke. I went back to the store, where they said "well, that happens." I don't expect a lifetime guarantee or anything, but less than a year later? I've told my husband to stop purchasing gifts for me here. I think the rent on 7th Ave. has become too high, and that's what you're paying high prices for here, not quality pieces of jewelry. read more

Hands down my favorite jewelry store in NYC. I always find something beautiful, unusual AND reasonably priced in here. I often wish I didn't walk by twice a day 'cause there is constantly something new in the window display that I just HAVE to have. Sometimes I think that I work just to keep this store in business. Staff is friendly AND knowledgable. I love the jewelry in this place and don't really shop for anything else there. I recently went to the Smith St. store (closing soon) and got a pair of gold vermeil earrings with large raw ruby stones, and a gorgeous, hand-made abalone and sterling silver bracelet (I had been eyeing it for about a year). It was more than I wanted to spend but not more than they were worth. I've worn the earrings twice and have already gotten a handful of comments on them. I still rue the fact that I didn't buy a very expensive abalone/sterling handmade necklace from the 7th Avenue store a couple of years ago. I was making good money at the time and it was one-of-a-kind. I haven't seen it in any of their stores since. I'm sad that El Milagro is leaving my neighborhood but glad to know I can still go to the Slope for some of their beautiful items. read more

I was one of the first customers to this store. I began patronizing it ever since the pet food store at the same location closed and El Milagro opened. Over the years I've purchased countless items. Every holiday and birthday brought the occasion to shop at El Milagro. But that was then. Things have changed dramatically since. The owner got rid of his staff, and subsequently, the quality of the merchandise and the customer service that I used to expect at El Milagro is definitely gone. The last five items I purchased there, all in quick succession, all had defects, and the owner grudgingly agreed to repair a few, eventually refusing to fix the last two. All were purchased within a short period of time during the Xmas shopping season of 2010. I was there at the birth of this once fun store, and now I am bearing witness to its slow death. Don't shop at El Milagro, you'll only be throwing your money away. I rate this store zero stars....sadly, a few years ago it would have received a full five star rating from me. read more
