I returned here after 7 months and ordered the enchiladas combo with rice and beans. Two with marinated pork and two with chicken. The service was great. The portions were so generous that I could only finish half of it. This is authentic Mexican cuisine! It's my new favorite place. The menu is extensive. Been twice now, and absolutely love this place. Cute little store like front, with authentic tasting Mexican food. This is not the place you're going to go if you want margaritas and that such. This is the place you go when it's all about the food. My husband had the fajita burrito with chicken and absolutely loved it. I got just some regular tacos two with shrimp one with steak and they are phenomenal. Yes I get the American style because I don't like cilantro. The green salsa is absolutely amazing and so tasty. They do have a selection of Mexican beers as well as juices and sodas and such. Service is always nice. This has become our favorite Mexican spot. read more

My go to spot for Mexican food in the neighborhood. It's small yet has enough seating if you decide to stay and grab a bite. I usually get chicken and shrimp tacos with a side of rice and refried beans or quesadillas. It hits every time! I've tried to use their online ordering over the website but I had problems with the order going through to the restaurant so I usually just call ahead. The owner got back with me quickly and refunded my order even though I still go my order that day for my inconvenience which was a plus. It's hard finding good authentic style tacos in Tampa bay. This place serves high quality Mexican style tacos. I got the lengua, cabeza, el pastor and suadero (which was actually a carnitas). The tortilla to meat ratio is good. I don't feel they held back on meat like a lot of Mexican restaurants do. They definitely filled it up really nice. All were juicy and delicious except for the carnitas which were super fatty and greasy. The tortillas also tasted great. The ambiance had a Mexican style feel to it. Mexican music playing in the background, nicely decorated interior. The staff that took my order were also very nice. Overall I really enjoyed my tacos! read more

This is a replacement for the former Huarache Azteca. Still the same furniture but also an updated paint scheme as well as 3 new flat screens, all silenced and one playing Univision or one of those Hispanic channels. They're all silent since there is Mexican folk music playing in a slightly loud fashion. Seems like they have quite a take out and delivery business here too. The phone kept ringing and the one lone waitress answered it, took orders in both English and Spanish. There was only one other table occupied beside our own when we arrived. The two fellows (apparently Mexican) were having a leisurely lunch before getting back out to do whatever job they have. Chips and salsa are very generic. Salsa was mediocre; didn't have a homemade taste at all. Whaddiya expect for free, even in a new Mexican place in this sketchy strip mall? Other tenants, BTW: a pawn shop, a coin laundry, a convenience store, a massage parlor, a cellphone store and a dive bar. Not a great place to be after dark if you ask me. As we waited for our real food to come out, several more folks came in for both sit-down as well as take out. Every last one of 'em is or looks Mexican. All of 'em spoke Spanish and that was that. A few of them ordered Mexican beers to go with their food too. I'm pointing all this out just to show that this place seems authentic. Food, you ask? This whole thing started because the Queen Bee was hankering for Mexican style tacos. So she orders three of 'em. One each of tinga (spicy marinated chicken), lengua (cow tongue) and carnitas (pork). She ate the whole thing without offering so much as a bite; she'd definitely return for a good taco fix. Very nice green sauce for the tacos too! That stuff had a nice bite...radish, cilantro and onion atop the tacos was all fresh too. I, meantime, wanted to get a broader sense of their offerings so I chose "carne asada con 3 enchiladas." It came with the standard Messikin rice and refried beans on the side. The three cheese enchiladas (one can choose chilaquiles instead) are topped with a mountain of lettuce, tomato, cotija cheese and crema. I chose salsa roja; salsa verde is the other choice. Carne asada is grilled thinly sliced steak, which was obviously seasoned and marinated first. Then it was topped with a whole roasted onion, a whole roasted jalapeño and grilled nopales, too. Steak was kinda chewy however; at least it was thin enough so a knife could cut through it without the consumer getting an upper body workout. Meantime the whole thing was quite flavorful and a good sized portion too! The rice tasted like it came out of a boxed mix (straight off the Sysco truck), not like abuelita used to make. Blah! Beans were a better side; they tasted like refried beans well enough. However they weren't overly heavy and dense like wet plaster, which is more than fine by me. Unlike the rice, these things tasted well made, with care and love. Finally, the waitress seemed pleasant enough, albeit not overly skilled at the niceties of table service. First she tried to rush us into ordering but I told her politely to leave (twice, no less). Once she finally returned after taking all the phone orders she seemed to have a decent grasp of the menu as we ordered. We did have to chase her down for flatware after food came out. We also had to chase her down for the check, but she was quick with that once we did. She cleared off table as needed while she scurried around with the now-inhabited tables and running to-go orders.. Beyond that, one thing I truly did NOT care for is that we were charged $1.50 each for a glass of water. Why? Well it is JUST a glass of water, for one thing. Secondly, it's really a lousy 16.9oz plastic bottle from Sam's Club next to a cup of ice. $1.50 for a 15 cent bottle of Walmart water and a nickel's worth of ice is a buck and a half? They do sell bottles Mexican sodas and beers if you like either of those. Mexican sodas, including Coke, are made with real cane sugar (no corn syrup) and come in real glass bottles too. So, all in all I feel a bit stingy giving 3 stars but too overly kind by awarding four, but I'm gonna give 'em the benefit of the doubt since the food is tasty and fresh for the most part. So as Yelp STILL allows no half stars to be awarded (Grrrr!), I'd say $27 plus tip for the bill was a lil pricey to me given the service and plain atmosphere. However, the food is still just as good as the predecessors food was. It actually tasted about the same, TBH. Would we or would we not go again? Probably "yes"; I'd just look at other sorts of dishes instead. With the number of Mexicans going in and out makes me think this place has potential. Always ordered to go, and it was good. Especially their Mexican style tacos. We always order cabeza, and lengua since it usually the good ones they sell. We dined in this time, and orders too forever to come out. Almost 30 min.. and then they charge you for water, and this time, the tacos weren't as good as it usually was. The lady that was working there was nice. She was by herself besides the person working in the kitchen..so that's probably why the food came out late? Menudo was good. Limes were dry though. We had to ask for extra limes because they were sooooo dry, and we got charged for that too.. chips they serve while you wait was extra hard, they stab your gums. And they only give you a little bit of salsa. Ambiance is very casual. Inside was a bit small. But there were good amount of chairs and tables to accommodate maybe 20 customers? read more

This is a perfect authentic restaurant with cheap prices and amazing food, they also have real coke with sugar cane in glass bottles we got their chips and queso along with the salsa and the chips are homemade the flautas were cooked to perfection and the tres leches and churros are an absolute delight! My boyfriend had the shrimp chicken and rice everything was 10/10 I highly suggest this restaurant and will be back! First of all, we had to pay for chips to go with the queso. It was the smallest amount of chips. They look like pita chips. Taste was good. But the chips were thicker and didn't have enough to eat with the queso. They brought a tiny side of salsa too. Quesadilla had fajita chicken. The green and red peppers were barely cooked. She brought what lookedkike a child's portion plate with beans, rice and lettuce and a small splat of sour cream. No fountain drinks or margaritas... all bottled drinks. Not worth the money at all!
