Yum! If you're looking for authentic Mexican food and drinks this is the place. Having lived in New Mexico, Nevada and Southern California, plus I've traveled to various places in Mexico dozens of times since a kid -- I'm always looking for true Mexican dishes. It's a small place with a few staff so don't expect to be blown away by the atmosphere and service. But, you can expect delicious tasting drinks. Try their michelada if you've never had one in Mexico. It's a Mexican drink made with (Corona quart) beer, lime juice, assorted sauces and spices. It was served in a HUGE chilled, salt-rimmed clay mug. My husband said, it's one of the best he's ever had. For dinner, I had the green enchiladas with a delicious Mexican-style steak. It was awesome! My husband had crispy flavorful beef taquitos, my mom had yummy street carne asada tacos with a side of beans and our friend had the BEST chimichanga. Everything was served HOT. Big portions. Leftovers for next day with a fried egg. We were all extremely satisfied and thrilled to have found flavorful Mexican dishes that remind us of home and fun trips across the border. Highly recommend this cute place. Don't have high expectations for fast service -- that's not their style. Everything is cooked to order. Clean. Spacious. Friendly. Now, this is an authentic Mexican restaurant. I'm from L.A. and ever since I moved to Tampa 9 years ago, I had not been able to find anything that comes close to real Mexican food. I ordered the Green Enchiladas and Carne Asada, which included rice, beans, nopales, jalapeño and tomatoes. I savored each bite, and felt how this meal was made with love and passion. Only someone who truly loves to cook can make food delectable to the point that I can still taste how astounding it was. My friend ordered the Bistec with Salsa Roja, and Piña Colada which she stated was : "The BEST Piña Colada she has ever had". So this is my plea to you... I haven't had a lot of success with the bars on Corey avenue but this one we liked. They did a good job with the tiki interior and had a number of rum drinks that were quite tasty. Get the one with coconut and blue curaçao. It was good. Being on Corey avenue, this bar tends to attract older people in the afternoon. We were the youngest people there and we are middle aged. Marcellas was an unexpected good surprise. In fact it was unexpected all the way until the first bite I took of my food. When we first arrived, we noted the server never wore a mask. That bothered us. Then while we looked at menus I noticed the prices on mine were $1 more than the prices on my wife's menu. That bothered us. We each ordered a chicken burrito, not expecting much of anything. Then...like a switch was flipped, the food arrived. The burritos were like tortilla wraps that had been pressed in a panini-press. The chicken was tender white meat, & the accompanying ingredients were fresh & flavorful. They mixed in avocado, tomato, lettuce, beans, rice, & cilantro. The server brought out sour cream & a delicious salsa which we topped every bite with. The flavor combo was equivalent to deliciousness-on-steroids. Sure, the price of each burrito was the higher price found on my menu. But the food was so wonderful, everything that bothered us disappeared. We are excited now to take friends here. The place is a tiny hole. The menus are different from each other. The server doesn't wear a mask. And there was a language barrier since they speak Spanish & we only speak English. You know what? I am ALWAYS on the lookout for a GOOD, new Mexican restaurant! I read some good reviews of Marcella's Restaurant on yelp, so I thought I would give it a go... I walked in with high hopes. Marcella's Restaurant has good reviews on yelp, so I was expecting some GOOD Mexican food!! As I looked around, my Spidey-Sense started clicking. No customers, a big wide open space in the dining area with a couple kids bicycles parked up against the wall and ALL of the tables were dirty. Not covered in dishes like a bunch of people just left, but dirty like the plates had been cleared but NOBODY BOTHERED TO WIPE DOWN THE TABLES! A woman came out of the back and dropped a menu on one of the dirty tables and turned away to go do something. I turned for the door and left!!! read more

The food was full of delicious picante flavors and fresh. The food prices are very affordable and this place doesn't make you wait long for your meal. I waited less than 8 minutes. During the 9-5 week day people tend to roam in there less and that's when I wander in to try all the genuine Mexican meals. It's fairly quiet in there with just the sizzle of the stove alerting me my food is on its way. Not too decorative in there but that's fine, I like the no nonsense minimalistic vibe. Me encanto el lugar!!! I loved this little restaurant. From the outside it doesn't look to great at all. Actually the Plaza there needs some TLC. When you walk in the restaurant is a bit dated, could use a bit of an upgrade. It also has a lot of Mexican decorations around, along with two TVs with Univision on and Mexican music playing in the background. As for the menu they have a whole array of Mexican food from a breakfast menu to tacos to typical Mexican sodas, Jarritos. YUM!! I order three different tacos as it was my first time there; wanted to play it safe. The tacos were excellent... so good I took 3 more to go for lunch today!! And they still taste delicious. I chose the Pastor taco; Alambre taco and Pollo taco!! Everything was freshly made with onions, cilantro, avocados, sautéed onions and green peppers!!! Loved the touch of lime and picante!! Went here on a whim for a late night dinner. It was loud there, though not busy. There was at least one person at almost every table, with several at a couple. There was a YouTube channel of Mariachi plying, which i didn't mind, but it was very loud. Feels like a mom-and-pop shop with only a couple people working and improvements being made here and there whenever possible. We were told to sit wherever we wanted, and moments later, a waitress appeared with chips and salsa, and took our drink orders. Other yelpers recommended the chimichanga, and that's what my uncle ordered. I tried some of it, and neither one of us were disappointed at all. In fact, I wish I would have ordered that myself instead of the steak tacos I did order. I think the tacos were ala carte, but I'm unsure. They were supposed to come with avocado, but mine didn't come out with any. I wasn't particularly bothered, considering how jealous I was about not having the chimichanga. The food wasn't bad, but I wouldn't write home about this place. I like how close to my house this place was, and I'd like to try one of their larger dinner plates before I decide whether or not to return. However, if you want tacos, check Juli's on Cleveland Street. Fast service, no frills, and never a disappointment. read more

I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE! I was there recently and they overcharged us for absolutely everything. They make you believe that prices are cheap when they give you an old menu but the moment you go and pay they change absolutely all prices. A meal that was not more than 45 ended up being 80 dollars. I recommend everyone thinking about going there to not to. Specially if you go with American friends, spouses, they are going to charge even you more and try to take advantage of you. Be aware that if you order a cantarito, you will be charge 20 dollars for the drink. It is ridiculous cause you could only expect that from a fancy place in Vegas but not this place. I ordered a cup of Mole Soup and a small burrito with water and the bill came to $14+ The chicken burrito was huge because it was filled with rice, no seasoning and the soup came in a bowl with chunks of cheap stewmeat. It was flavorful. In order to cheat me, another lady who could not speak much English came out and added the amount. I said, "no" and she looked at me like she did not understand. This is something that can make or break a Mexican restaurant. Something about the authentic chips and traditional salsa that really set this restaurant apart from others. NOTE: Closed on Tuesdays and cash only!! Marcela's motto is "The flavor of Mexico at your table." And they definitely deliver it! Marcela's occupies two storefronts in a small strip plaza at the intersection of Gulf to Bay and Yelvington across from Advance Auto Parts. That puts it on the south side of Gulf to Bay about halfway between Highland and Keene. If you see Plateroti Italian Gourmet grocery (which you should definitely check out while you're there) at that intersection, it's just a few doors down. The interior is plain but very clean with about ~25 seats in the main area, and a another storefront to the left with ~20 seats and a large open floor which from a hand written sign appears to be used for music and karaoke from 10pm to 3am on the weekends (I'd call them to make sure if you're stopping by for a late night visit). There are two flat screens tuned to Spanish tv channels. When I stopped by about 2pm on a weekday the interior suggested a very simple taqueria menu, but when the smiling woman at the counter handed me a beautiful full color glossy menu with an extensive list of dishes it suggested more upscale choices, a number of which are very authentic Mex dishes I've never seen in other local restaurants. For breakfast they offer 5 options of mostly eggs ~$6-7. Eight sandwich options run from $6.50-8. There are ~15 entrees ranging from pork chops/steak/chicken (in either guajillo, pasilla or mora sauce with potatoes or prickly pear cactus), chile reyenos, fajitas (chicken/steak/shrimp), 7 other beef/chicken/pork chop dishes, chicken salad, and enchiladas, all priced from $9-13. In addition, they also offer antijitos/appetizer choices of pambazos, chalupas, and tacos dorados, as well as specialty dishes including 9 gorditas choices, plus huaraches & quesadillas. They also have another quesadilla-type dish called sincronizada where ham, mozzarella cheese, tomatoes, avocado, and chipotle pepper is placed between two flour tortillas, then grilled until the cheese melts and the tortillas become crispy. Other options include enchiladas in mole poblano, burritos, taco salad, 7 taco choices ($2), and soup. For the kids there are a half-dozen or so options like chicken nuggets, quesadillas, enchiladas, tacos dorados and sopes. Rounding out the menu are 4 desserts and beverages of Mexican sodas, aquas frescas, fruit juices, Modelo and Corona beer, coffee, and on the weekends atole de galleta, a specialty Mexican hot drink I've never seen in this area. While most everything on the menu sounded mouth watering, I was hoping to just grab two tacos. But the taco choices of pastor,steak/bistec (available with nopales/prickly pear cactus), chicken, chicharron (pork rind), longaniza (pork sausage) and alambre (beef sauteed with ham, cheese, green peppers and onions....think the flavors of fajitas) convinced me I needed to check out the range offered....not for myself, of course, but just for Yelp readers. ;-) So I ordered up pastor, alambre and longaniza. One thing I've noticed as a rule of thumb at many local taquerias, the longer it takes to prepare the food, the more fresh and flavorful it is, presumably because the cooks are taking the necessary time to prepare most everything from scratch. And at Marcela's it certainly turned out that way. The 10+ minutes for just a few tacos to be delivered to the table (while no other orders were being prepared) turned out to be a good thing. These tacos were universally great, served on freshly made corn tortillas with the standard cilantro, onion, and lime wedges joined by an avocado slice. The avocado was a cool contrast to the blazing hot salsa roja. I like hot salsas, but I had to use this sparingly at first to get used to it. Once I warmed up to it, the chile flavors really came through over the heat. The pastor had excellent flavor, and the alambre and longaniza were fantastic...all of three with moist meat. The ice cold flavor of Modelo was a great contrast to the spice, and by the time I polished the three tacos off I was hungry for more. Another alambre and bistek/steak were delivered with a second Modelo, and I found the solo bistek was moist with excellent flavor as well. Overall, while the bistek, pastor, and longazniza were as good as any I've tasted in the area, the alambre really delivered and was my favorite. At $2 each, the tacos were average price for the area, but on based on flavor alone they were worth more. And the friendly conversation I had with the women running the kitchen and delivering the food was a solid service experience. I'm anxious to get back and check out the rest of the menu. It's not often I find one more great Mexican place in North Pinellas that rocks my world with fresh/great authentic Mexican flavors (see my list below). Don't bother to go here. Food was terrible. Carne Asada was super thin and tough as the bottom of my shoes. Chimichanga was dry and had fillers of rice, peas, beans and no Queso Blanca. The waitress was too busy on her cell phone to even bother with us and we couldn't hear her or her hear us when we tried to place our order because there were 2 TV's that were so loud it hurts our ears.
