Nice place to get a good meal. Very clean inside. Service is very friendly. You order at the counter and take a seat. Even though we ordered nachos they still brought us out the complimentary ones. While I like the festive decor and music, the music is super loud in here. I have a favorite Mexican spot in Jamesburg and I have a hard time not comparing everything to it. This was a really good meal but didn't even come close to my favorite. If you're in the area it's a decent stop though. read more

Decent Mexican place, not too pricey. We were the only people in there which was a bit of a surprise. My daughter and I shared the chicken burrito. It was good but not great, not the tastiest but certainly decent. My husband had huaraches de res. He said he enjoyed it. I've had better Mexican and I've had worse. I think they're keeping the flavor levels down in this place and i'm not sure why. Also, side note: they were blasting the radio. It was so loud we couldn't hear each other speak. read more

The signature dish - the molcajete is absolutely awesome! Very generous portion of meats and a delicious sauce that ties them together - along with a bunch of different add-in's like grilled cactus, avocado, etc. tacos to recommend: chorizo and al-pastor - for those of you that are adventurous I would recommend lengua (tongue). Word of caution to my brothers and sisters that like me HATE cilantro just ask for it on the side and avoid the Pico de Gallo - you'll be safe from that evil weed. All in all this place is solid - but not my favorite place for burritos - that honor goes to another establishment on Main Street in Freehold which I'll probably review soon since I haven't been there in forever. read more

Holy forking shirtballs, everyone. Either El Molcajete has the best goshdang tacos I've ever had the pleasure of putting in my mouth or... actually, I've got nothing. They're sooooooooooooooooooooooooo good. I usually stick with 3 al pastor tacos (100% Mexican tacos in the menu) with some of the green sauce and some of the red sauce, plus a squeeze of lime on each. Perfectly prepared. Juicy and tangy with the right amount of pineapple and love, topped with some cilantro and some chopped onion. My wife orders the carnitas, which can sometimes be a little heavy on the fatty pieces, to her chagrin and my celebration. DE-LECTABLE. The tres leche cake is also BOMB in that they really do use a slightly dry/possibly day-old yet super flavorful cake for their recipe. Not sure if it's made in-house or not but kudos to that person, whomever they are. Because hotdamn, that tres leches gives me . The rice and beans is also a solid combo. I should note that the beans do come in an excess of sauce. More like a deliciously-spiced bean soup. I don't mind it, though it's not my preference. I enjoy the hoo-hah out of themthere beans, either way; you can bet your bottom dollar on that. One more time though, those tacos: I crave them several times a week, but I never get them more than once in a week. Not my choice. The love of my life doesn't care for tacos the way I care for tacos, so we have to meet in the middle. Unfortunately for me, the middle isn't always at el Molcajete, which is only a block from our home. I can't stress enough how good this place is. My only real issue is hablo español de mierda and I usually end up phoning in my orders. I just start off with an apology and ask for someone that speaks English, which, I know, guys: It's super shitty. If I love it so much, I should learn to at least be able to communicate my desires to the purveyor of my culinary joy. I'm bad, I know. I have some work to do. You're right. The only issue I have with this joint is an issue that I actually have with ME, so five forking stars, man! this place is legit ! they have real mexican food ! the chips are so good ! like the ones at the tortilleria , but it gets even better once you try the tortillas they are fresh made thick made with real corn ! yummmmm the avocado comes in a big molcajete ! the steak is great ! their aguas frescas are real made from scratch ! they also have flans, cake and other mexican sweets . this place has a great vive is really nice and the decorations are colorful ! you can enjoy your meal while listening to great latin music ! read more

A new Mexican restaurant to try! I was in the Freehold area with my sister and was looking for a new place to try and based off the eight previous excellent yelp reviews, chose El Molcajete. Located in a small strip mall off one of Freehold's main streets, El Molcajete is pretty nondescript and easy to miss, but in doing so one can miss out on some really delicious Mexican food. When walking in, as other yelpers have mentioned, this place is super clean from the visible kitchen area, tables, floor, etc. Scanning the extensive menu there's a good mix of traditional Mexican dishes and your Americanized offerings. I zeroed right in on the Chilaquiles Rojos with Bistec, while my sister set her sights on the Bistec al Albanil entree. My Chilaquiles was really yummy with a nice heat level that would probably be too hot for normal people (I love and have high tolerance for hot and spicy food). The red sauce was thick and really coated all of the crispy corn chips underneath, but what really made this version yummy was the smooth melted cheese layered on top which cut the heat factor. The bistec (steak) was seasoned well but it was a bit tough. My sister's Bistec al Albanil consisted well flavored yellow rice (tasted like it was cooked with some sort of broth), tender red beans, a nicely sized steak that had just enough fat, and an excellent piece of Chorizo topped with sauteed onions and peppers. Instead of one of the menu item appetizers we also ordered a Hawaiian Torta. This large sandwich contained ham, cheese, pineapple, peppers, onions, lettuce, and mayo sandwiched in a nice crusty bread. All these ingredients combined to make some nice flavors and textures from salty, to sweet, to crispy, to creamy, etc. I recommend this as it was quite unique. I will be stopping by again to try some more dishes! read more

F this place. Went in with my boyfriend and planned to eat there but the TV was on level 1000 on Univision so we decided to take the meal to go. First I was bummed that the enchilada "platter" didn't come with rice and beans (why is it a platter then?) for $12!!! My boyfriend got chicken tacos, we got chicken flautas to split & I got steak enchiladas. See picture, it was like soup! Steak was also overcooked. What the hell. Such a waste of money. If I could give this place zero stars I would. Even negative stars. I'm actually offended by how disgusting this meal was. First they didn't give me an entire portion of garlic shrimp. My chicken tostada was cold and nasty and had random bones (picture provided). The fajitas had unidentified meat and came with no sour cream or pico de gallo. The chicken fajitas had 3 pieces of chicken. The only good thing about this meal was the squirt drink from Mexico that luckily was not bottled at this god forsaken place. Stay away. read more

This place is pretty terrible, as my first review ever on Yelp it kinda sucks that I felt the need to leave a one star. I ordered a chicken burrito which was 9 dollars for a small portion. The burrito itself was filled with nothing but beans and rice. The chicken I did find, was most definitely a day old if not more so. Hard and stringy. I've never had a burrito that I thought was bad until today. Avoid this place there are better choices in the area. read more

Was coming here regularly getting the same thing every time and the Mexican tacos are listed $7 dollars got them with corn tortillas as always and they charged us $15 dollars for 2 plates of tacos because of the corn tortillas, said something and the owners said oh well tough luck basically. This is our new go-to spot for good Mexican food. Tacos are excellent, and probably my favorite so far are the chicken enchiladas with salsa verde. Homemade tortillas are the differentiator here, and tastes like the food I grew up with. We have ordered out several times, but my reason for only 4 stars is the ambience. The few times I have gone in to pick up my order or have eaten in the music is BLASTING. They have a huge stereo at the counter, and the music is super loud. It's difficult to hold a conversation with someone when you can't hear each other. Outside of that, food is excellent and El Molcajete is part of our regular rotation. read more

We just tried this restaurant. Let me tell you. The food is amazing. If you like spicy food, ask for their hot sauce. Also get Pico de Galo with jalapeño and it's very good. We had Burrittos, fajitas, and their corn and flour tortilla are very good. They get very busy with locals and I appreciate that part. I felt like I was eating in Mexico. Just finished my chicken burrito it was absolutely delicious quality chicken good ingredients their house hot salsa is very spicy and I really enjoyed it. I picked up 4 meals for me and my coworkers total bill was 36 bucks very affordable you get your moneys worth. The only gripe I have is it took about 30 minutes from the time I ordered to the time I left so if you want pick up definitely call ahead. now that I have a copy of the menu they do offer free delivery which I'll be taking advantage of next time. read more

The food and service here is average. The food wasn't bad, but it was lacking in seasoning and flavor. The waitress did not seem very experienced in the food service industry. We were served nachos with frijoles for the table to snack on. The flavor was ok. We ordered nachos with chicken for an appetizer. I had a molcajete burrito as the main. The food here was great. I had fajitas and my daughter had beef tacos and my husband has pork enchiladas. Everything was fresh and delicious. The only reason we did not give 5 star was due to the ambiance. More like a pizza parlor setting then a restaurant setting. After reading the reviews, I've been wanting to give this place a try. We came here for lunch and were seated immediately. The place was empty but the music was blasting. Our server was busy texting on her phone. Daughter ordered the Chicken Flautas, Hubs ordered the Beef Lengua and I ordered the Beef Chilaquiles with Red Sauce. Service was REALLY slow considering the place was empty. It took 30-45 minutes before our meals were brought to our table. They did have a lot of phone orders. I was upset that that they were busy taking care of the phone orders when their live customers were sitting there the whole time! Our server was so busy texting or surfing on her phone that we didn't get our chips until 20 minutes later. We also weren't served our drinks until later. The chips weren't freshly made. It was supermarket chips. I'd understand the delay if the chips were freshly made but it wasn't. Daughter didn't like her Chicken Flautas because it looked like chicken in tacos. We were expecting the Flautas to come out fried golden. My steak was completely well done and couldn't chew it but the chilaquiles were nice and spicy. Hubs ordered the Beef Lengua tacos and thought it was meh. The place started getting crowded 30 minutes after we got to the restaurant. Our server was barely there. What a wonderful surprise. A new Mexican restaurant opened up recently in Freehold Boro. It was without question the best meal I have had in years. When we walked in the restaurant the first thing I noticed is how incredibly clean the restaurant was. Secondly we sat and a very sweet waitress came over to the table and brought us a delicious plate of homemade tortilla chips beans and cheese with a special sauce to dip the chips in. We ordered three different entrees to try out different things they have. When the food came I was astonished at the gigantic proportions and the Beautiful display of food on the plates. Not only was the food incredibly fresh but it had wonderful flavors and and the garnishes on the plates or a meal themselves. We had one piece of Mexican milk cake for dessert and I wish I had room for more. I truly have to say as often as I go out to dinner it was so refreshing to have a wonderful meal from the beginning to the end. This is the kind of restaurant that people should go to to really enjoy themselves and have a nice meal. I felt it would be appropriate for kids and your families or a large group. I would definitely call ahead if you're bringing a large group so that they're prepared. The best way to spend my Cinco de mile. Bring your own booze and cash only. read more

Wanted to try a different place and it paid off. This a simple place with authentic food where all locals are feasting on the fare. We started with complimentary fresh and warm chips and a nice medium spiced salsa and then an order of once again fresh guacamole that holds right up their with the best in the likes of Rosa Mexican and Toloaches. Entrées consisted of chicken with achiote taco (Azteca) that exploded with flavor and drizzled just right with their creme. Another solid winner was the Angus skirt steak with bountiful flavor tender and well appointed with rice, beans onions and avocado. Their Horchata Rice water was a nice touch that was given complimentary to taste which was refreshing. We finished off with Tre Leche dessert which was excellent. The prices are best in town and portions are more then plentiful and although ambiance is basic at best it's authentic, comfortable and clean for a neighborhood place with friendly service making this our new favorite mexican place in a many many mile radius. read more
