It's ok. We've been a few times in the past few weeks while visiting Georgetown. After 1 visit to the dining room we decided to sit at the bar on all other visits. The staff seem to be a bit preoccupied during most visits. Not in a rude way, just not focused on being of service. Things just move at a slightly slower pace. The chips and salsas are a good snack but most of the rest of the food we've tried is just ok. It's clearly not a chef driven kitchen. The bartenders are a bit more focused and happy so we just go to the bar instead of the dining room. read more

My husband and I are from the DFW area in North Texas and decided to visit here while leaving our Airbnb in Georgetown. We found out the place did not open until 3pm on a Sunday so we waited 10 mins in the parking lot. We noticed a large amount of cars and people started pulling in and waiting in line at the door! We thought that we needed to get out then and wait too. Right at 3pm, the doors opened, and waiters were lined up waiting to seat everyone. We snagged a great spot on the patio by the river. We only came for drinks and appetizers. We were happy to learn that happy hour was taking place from 3-6pm. Happy hour means you take $2 off most drinks and appetizers. It is a little disappointing you have to purchase chips and salsa, but it was only $1.50 with their happy hour special. The margaritas are very strong! The chicken flautas were so crispy and yummy. There is a type of cabbage slaw/salad that is served on top that adds extra flavor. The chips were extremely golden and crunchy, cooker to perfection. Their salsa is OK but you have two different once's (a red & green avocado). Overall the scenery is beautiful inside & out. Service overall is fantastic. I don't see what all the hype is about this place from my Georgetown friends. I've been here a few times to meet friends for drinks. Expensive margaritas and they weren't that great. I'm not a fan on the ice shaver - it just made the margarita weird, really. Kind of like a slushie instead of a frozen margarita if that makes sense. I haven't tried the food. Maybe that's their saving grace, but the bar was meh. And the service has never been great, always a long wait for anything. I have gotten to the point where I politely decline meeting anyone there. Just not super impressed. It has a pretty courtyard. Parking is terrible. read more

The food is bland, rice is bland, everything is bland. The service was quick. Did I mention the food was bland? House made chips are over cooked, might be a bad batch but who knows. We were discussing drinks when the waiter walked off to put in our food order and never came back which was strange to me. Over priced, likely due to the nice venue and tall ceilings. This isn't Mexican food, it's Mexican inspired food. Only reason I didn't give 1 star is because the service was decent and the food came out relatively quickly. The location is central Georgetown on the river. The site is expansive and multilevel. Parking is a bit minimal with some extended parking at certain hours across the street. Menu is interesting but limited in choices. Bar service is good but limits choices during high demand for walk up (while you wait) service. Staff is polite and up beat - dress is a bit random and may look like some one of the street. Our first night in the Austin area we were out driving Georgetown and while walking near the San Gabriel River we spotted El Monumento. We stopped in the bar for drinks. My wife had the Jalapeño Margarita and I had the traditional Margarita, both very good. As a matter of fact my wife is using that experience as a comparison to drinks we've had since then, she really liked it. The chips and salsa were good and we ordered an app, the queso with chorizo had a lot of flavor. The reason for my rating: There was a group in the bar that was very loud. I don't mean the usual gabby bar group I mean really obnoxiously loud. The worst part is that the bartender was participating, at one point throwing ice that hit another employee and into our area. Last call was at 8:30, good for getting that crowd out of there but if you wanted to chill in a nice spot you need to be out of there by 9pm. I would try this place again just to see if this was an anomaly. 3 stars for the chips, salsa, queso and drinks. read more

Bad experience. I would give a rating of "0" if I could. We had a party of four, last Friday night. Started with drinks in the bar, the bartender was great. It went down hill from there. We were seated at 7:16 pm, no one came to our table, no water, no menus, no table touch by the General Manager to let us know someone would be by the table. Nothing! So at 7:47 pm, I went to the Host/Hostess stand and asked for the General Manager. Her direct words "all I can say is I am sorry". A General Manager is the eyes and ears of the dining room floor, they know how the servers are doing (if they are behind, need help), the GM is supposed to walk the floor, they do table touches and check in with customers. And check in with their staff. They put a hold on seating more customers if the kitchen is behind. They are trained to execute flawlessly. The words, "I'm sorry"...that doesn't cut it in the restaurant industry. The answer that I should have gotten was " this is not how we typically operate, here is gift card for a drink/appetizer, come back and check out El Monumento again." Busy Friday nights with a busy dining floor, bustling tables, the kitchen knocking out orders and an attentive staff making sure each and every table is taken care of...THAT is what restaurateurs/owners/General Managers live for. It is the restaurant business. I will never be back to El Monumento, won't waste my time. It is a shame because the location is unique, the building/architecture has a cool vibe. Came here with a friend for a Saturday brunch. The interior is really spacious but also cute and classy. When you enter through the main entrance, there are outdoor seatings, and I think the ambiance will be really pretty for dinner. Also, there is a space on the side for bar seating. We sat outside and ordered drinks, chips and few appetizers to share. The food is not bad overall, but I'd come here more for the ambiance and than the food. Our server was really nice and attentive, and she came outside frequently to check on us and make sure that we have everything we need. read more

Haven't had a chance to return to El Monumento since Covid and didn't know what to expect but the four of us may have had our best meal there ever. We got a reservation a little earlier than normal so we could take in the Christmas lights on the nearby Georgetown square. Paige was our server and she did a great job. She was very attentive but didn't rush us. We started with chips and salsa, followed closely by the queso flameato, gooey and yummy . Our meals included tortilla soup, shrimp chili relleno, street tacos and one of the special plates. Needless to say we waddled out... Our experiences in the past were a little inconsistent but this time they were right on point. Looked like there were enough employees to take care of the good crowd they had. If you're eating dinner here Thursday- Sunday you need a reservation... if you don't have one, be prepared to wait atleast an hour. The cucumber margarita is super refreshing, I highly recommend it. The guacamole didn't have much flavor but the blandness of the guac was needed to cool your mouth after eating the salsa. Cool vibe inside, the patio seating is beautiful but will have to wait until it's not 100 degrees out to enjoy the view. read more

This is a beautiful restaurant right off Georgetown's blue hole park. We made a reservation for 13 people and our server did a wonderful job, couldn't have been better! The food came out fast and was delicious. I ordered the chicken tacos ( which comes with 2 tacos, your choice of beans and rice ) The drinks, spot on. Honestly loved this place. We sat inside but they do have outside seating that has a wonderful view of the sunset. Pricing was definitely reasonable. Now parking. If you go on a weekend like we did. You might have some trouble finding a spot. And walk just a little. It's worth the walk but just keep that in mind. read more

I recently wrote a review on The Monument Cafe where I commented on the excellent food and atmosphere, but somewhat chaotic wait and seating procedures that made getting a table feel like a competition with other diners. Unfortunately the same can be said for El Monumento. The atmosphere and food here are really very good, probably among the best in Georgetown, but getting seated is stressful and very chaotic. Last time I visited, I gave the host my phone # and was told 20 - 25 minutes. I then went out to the parking area to ensure my international guest found his way to the restaurant area, as it is not easy to find if you're completely unfamiliar. He arrived 10 minutes later, and we sat and chatted for 20 minutes. I then realized it had now been over 35 minutes and still no text from the host. We talked another few minutes and I excused myself to check with the host personally. Oddly the host recognized my face, but neither he nor the other staff who were present at the time could find my phone #. So I had actually never been in the queue, which explained why I sat and watched people be seated who arrive after me. Long story short this was quite embarrassing for me as I'd really bragged this place up to my guest from Europe as having a cozy and inviting atmosphere with a somewhat old world feel. To their credit the staff did jump right on the problem and quickly found us a table, but by then it has been almost an hour of waiting. I've not been back since. I'm not saying I won't go back again, but given this problem exists at both Monument establishments, it seems to be a systemic problem. I work for an international company and enterain international guests on a fairly regular basis. Unfortunately, neither of the two Monument establishments are on list of places to entertain guests because of the extensive waits related to the chaotic seating protocol. Were it not for that, they would be at the top of the list, especially El Monumento, it's ambiance and atmosphere is hard to beat. read more

We chose El Monumento last night for my daughter's 33rd birthday. Best dining decision that will now become a tradition and a craving. We started with chips and salsa as well as queso and one of the monthly special cocktails, the smoky jalapeño margarita. We also enjoyed the aqua Fruita non alcoholic beverage as well. Between the 5 of us, we sampled several dinner options including the street tacos, the enchiladas, and the relleno. They were all spectacular and even though I had no space in my tummy to finish it all, I couldn't stop. Ryan, our server, made the experience even more special. I can always tell if a server is being nice to get a tip, which I can understand, but Ryan was honestly genuine and engaging without being intrusive. The restaurant itself is beautiful with a generous deck that provides ample room to dine outdoors. We will be back, sooner rather than later as I am already craving more Chile rellenos. I can not believe I haven't reviewed this place yet, we used to be frequent flyers here pre covid. My favorite part about this restaurant is the outdoor seating and ambiance. It's relaxing, quiet shaded, and you can see the water below. The service has always been pretty good, no complaints there. The food is very good and the drinks too, their cucumber/jalapeno margaritas are perrrrfecccct. I agree with many of the other reviews, it's much pricier than its competitors for very comparable tasting food. Mom was pleasantly surprised to have actual beef steak in her beef enchiladas and we both liked the salsa. Mom is not one to eat salsa cause it's usually too spicy but she could handle this. I like salsa spicy, so even if it wasn't spicy it was fresh. I felt the food was a little pricey for the limited selections. read more

To be honest, I had given up on eating at this place some handful of years ago because I felt that the place was cooking Mexican food for the white-bread taste crowd. The food chronically lacked salt, seasoning or any interesting edge to it. Can you say "Food for the old folks home"? But last week a friend of mine said to try again. said it had greatly improved, so I took his word for it and reluctantly went in....and can say that I was glad that I did. They started us off with chips and salsa. Both the green (especially this one) and the red salsas were excellent and actually spicy, thank God. We also ordered queso flameado with shrimp and chicken tortilla soup, both packed with flavor and quality ingredients. The guacamole the we got was passable. Not as horrifically bland as is used to be BUT still needs a healthy dose of lime juice and salt which we ordered with it. Even or waiter said that it always needs more lime and salt, so, hey,just fix it already. Everything else was also very nice, like the great seating outside and the bar drinks. I can see that they finally got some cooks that know this type of food and I am very happy about it. I WILL definitely be back. My suggestion. You guys are finally on a roll regarding a more authentic taste. Don't rest yet! You are only a few bold menu changes from being something truly great! read more

El Monumento has been a favorite of ours since finding it when we moved here a few years ago. It's our go to spot for birthdays and celebrations. We went this week to find a changed menu. The fajitas meats can no longer be mix so in order to get a combo you had order 3 separate orders. Even after that you still had to pay an additional $8 for rice and beans. I have never been to a Mexican restaurant where you don't get rice and beans with the fajitas. My daughter also ordered her usual cheese enchilada and when it came it was just a tortilla and cheese (no sauce). We questioned our server who was amazing and she said unfortunately the menu has been changed and she's had a lot of upset customers about it. Here's to hoping they get it fixed soon. Really hoping to not have to find a new special place for a night out. read more

Their menu is very small with not many items to choose from. My first choice for dinner was out, so I go over the menu and find something else to order. A few minutes later the server comes back and tells me that is also out. I asked exactly what was out because if it was an ingredient I didn't care about I would just have it without that ingredient. But he has no idea and apparently can't find out. So I settle with just tacos. When he brings the tacos out I ask for hot sauce, and he tells me they don't have hot sauce. LOL what? And honestly the tacos were pretty mediocre. Very uninspired. Plus this place uses those QR code menus that everyone hates. Unfortunately I probably won't return. I want to thank the bartenders at El Monumento. My co workers and I had such a lovely experience. Korry, Shawna and Heather (I think) were all amazing! They always have a smile on their faces even when they are swamped. The last time we were there some very loud girls came in that were obviously very drunk and obnoxious. I greatly appreciated the manager asking them to leave as this is not a dive bar. Thanks for keeping it classy! Thank you all for great food, drinks and most of all your service.
