This place was a hidden surprise. We shared the oysters that had an amazing flavor. Also the mussels cooked perfectly and the sauce was flavorful but not over powering. Such a great place! Tucked away in the corner of a small shopping center and incredibly well put together. A bit fancier than we were expecting, but equally as welcoming as it was beautiful. Our waiter, Charles, hails from Utah and was incredibly knowledgeable with all of the sushi items on the menu. He was also very well knowledgeable about non-sushi items for our non-sushi eaters! From appetizers, to main entrées, everything arrived in short order and all had beautiful presentations. All of Charles's suggestions were spot on and he represents the establishment very well. I had an espresso crème brûlée, for dessert, and it was amazing! Please do yourself a favor, especially if you're staying at the neighboring Sheraton Hotel, and stop on by. This is such a cute hidden gem in the "town centre"! The ambiance and service is amazing as our waiter was very kind and attentive even though we arrived 20 minutes before closing; I forget his name but it starts with an M and it's French. He didn't rush us at all! My date and I tried the Goyza Dumplings, Texan Roll and House shrimp fried rice and literally EVERYTHING WAS TOP TIER! I also had the Blossom cocktail and that was great as well! The seafood was extremely fresh and large; not one tiny shrimp in site! And there is plenty left to eat for later! Excellent choice for lunch or dinner. My wife and I are from an area where a variety of fish are plentiful, so we were VERY pleased with the quality and taste of the dishes served at Ichiro. We started with the 7 spice calamari appetizer, which was perfectly prepared, crispy outside yet tender inside, with just enough heat (spice). The rolls were all superb, where the sauces truly complement the fish. We finished the meal with tempura cheese cake. This consisted of 4 slices, served with vanilla bean ice cream, whipped cream, some fruit garnish and caramel drizzle (can you imagine heaven on a plate!) Unfortunately, on my last visit, I ordered the chicken teppanyaki, but when I got my bill, I was charged for beef and shrimp teppanyaki instead. I normally don't complain, but I mentioned it to the bartender, and he told me it was the same price--even though chicken shouldn't be charged the same as shrimp. That left me a bit disappointed. Honestly, we were hesitant at first to dine in at an Asian restaurant with Asian Bistro in it's name so we had very little expectations upon entering the restaurant. Expectations turned around very quickly when we were met with a charmingly decorated interior, live music, a delicious sushi roll, and 15/10 service from the bartenders. The Texan roll is something we'll be craving for again in the future. It's a hefty $24 roll but compared to other sushi restaurants, the size of the roll was about 1.5x the size. It did not sacrifice flavor for quantity though. We rarely find things we absolutely love at restaurants but this was that love at first bite. The service was phenomenal and super attentive. The food and drinks could've been just okay and I still would've had a great experience at this place due to the service from the staff. Also the owner came by to chat and make sure everything turned out okay. We're definitely coming back here to try other things but mostly to eat the Texan roll. It was my birthday and I had not planned on doing anything when a friend suggested a last minute get together at Ichiro. I called them on a Wednesday and I was surprised they were able to accommodate a party of 12 for the coming Friday. This place is awesome! It's a huge space, they even had live music playing. Daniel, our server was extremely nice. He recommended a tequila old fashioned and I couldn't be happier with his choice. For main, i had the tuna temptation roll and the fish was very fresh, the rice fish portion was great and the flavors really complemented each other. For dessert, he brought me the ginger creme brûlée and it was very good. Really refreshing and not overly sweet, but still with the crunchy top. Sad to say I'm updating my review due to the recent menu change! Beware! The old happy hour deal is no more. When we went a month ago, their Monday - Thursday happy hour deal had specialty rolls ranging 10-15$, which is nearly half off their normal price. They've since changed their happy hour deal to be only 5$ off specialty rolls which just doesn't put a dent in the price speciality rolls range 24-28$+. Their old happy hour prices are now being used as their weekend lunch prices. Honestly, the rolls are decent and fully decked out and look fancy, but they're not 24$ tasty. With this new happy hour pricing, we don't find it worth it unfortunately. We've had fresher better priced sushi elsewhere! read more

I was pretty impressed with the freshness of the fish here. We got garlic and truffle edamame which was super good. Then I got uni, otoro, and fatty salmon. I also got the cucumber wrapped roll. The roll had a tangy sauce at the bottom of the plate but I didn't realize you're supposed to dip it in there. It's much better with the sauce! Very good sushi, great bar, very good service (for a busy Friday night), excellent atmosphere (as a jazz musician I appreciated the live entertainment). So why 3 stars? Eye-wateringly expensive. Their prices make Uchiko look like a bargain and worth the drive to Austin. Or even better, go to one of the excellent Omakase spots in Austin like Tare or Chef Choo. If you're spending this kind of money, get a truly unique experience. Don't get me wrong, Ichiro's sushi/sashimi offerings are imaginative and quite good. But they're not all-out amazing as the pricing indicates. If they were 20-30% less, we would be regulars like, 1-2 times per week. But you can't get out of there for less than $150 for two people for a light meal, even working the app menu. Sad because they're a few minutes from the house (and we've known the owners for 20 years - we were regulars at their previous restaurant, Koreana on Mopac). read more

I wasn't reluctant to try Ichirio because I definitely trust Yelp Nation. I was reluctant to walk in on a Saturday afternoon without a reservation and without a ton of cash to drop. The prices look steep on the menu for their specialty items and many of the apps....BOY! I was wrong. Do not make my mistake of hesitation to visit here!! But When I walked in before 4 p.m. it was very quiet with lots of available tables in its elegant decor. The bar is beautiful and inviting to visit on its own and the drink and wine menu runs deep. We were greeted right away and seated promptly. Our server, Luis was at the table immediately offering any help we might need as well as cold water. The menu had some amazingly good looking items on it. I am a sucker for a good simple spicy tuna roll so that would go along with a Lobster Bomb. The spicy tuna wasn't punch-in-the-face-spicy. It was a tasty, slow building of flavors ending in wonderful mild spicy flavor. The Lobster Bomb lived up to it's billing. It is beautiful to behold; Lobster tail draped over a lit orb at the end of a massive roll covered in red roe to imitate the appearance of lobster. The sauces, roe and ingredients were wonderful. And the morsals of lobster were absolutely delicious. I was picking of the tiny remnants on the plate and shooed Luis away when he came appearing as if he wanted to pick up the plate. The fact of the matter, the big, Ichiro rolls are pricey at $20ish each. But they are a meal! We got out with the rolls and two glasses of wine just slighty north of $50. And it was good. This was one of the best meals we've ever had! Went with friends we were visiting. Beautifully decorated restaurant with a large bar and great wine selections. This is a place you might want to wear something nicer than jeans (but don't have to - it is Austin!). Service was very attentive. We started with Warm Sake, the Super Tuscan red wine, and I had the Lavender Fields cocktail - beautiful and very good. The seafood is delivered fresh daily and the food is cooked from scratch. They offer Sushi and a modern twist on classic Asian dishes. The Lobster-and Scallop egg drop soup was silky and luscious. The Tuna Tataki, Hot and sour soup, and fatty Yellowtail sushi were delicious. The Edamame had a pepper spice sauce and was very tasty. The Saiko-Miso Chilean sea bass was incredible! I can't describe it enthusiastically enough to do it justice. The sea bass melted in my mouth - it was the best Chilean sea bass I've ever had. I'm still thinking about how good it was! My husband had the Sea Scallop Risotto and said it was the best Risotto he ever had! Our friends split the excellent Hot pot 'bi bam bap. For dessert we shared the espresso crème brûlée (perfect and silky) and Fuji apple pie was good. Beautiful presentations of the food made everything taste that much better.
