I've been to El Muchacho Alegre many times before and every time has been wonderful. We were taking of care by Pablo this time and he was so very attentive and hard working. My family and I went here for the first time for a family birthday and I was highly impressed! The staff were amazing and handled our large party with ease. The restaurant is a casual sit down restaurant with lots of seating, so perfect for families/events. It definitely has a modern Americanized Mexican restaurant feel. It does have lots of choices to choose from on the menu along with a long line of different drinks. We started out with free chips and salsa that overall did the trick. I got the carne asada dinner with corn tortillas. The meat was cooked perfectly and was extremely tender. The beans and rice could have used a touch more seasoning but overall very tasty. It was exactly what I wanted out of the meal. The picture doesn't do the meal justice, it was a huge plate and was definitely filling! I definitely recommend this restaurant. read more

Hands down my favorite Mexican restaurant in Omaha! Everything is always amazing! My favorite dish is the Guadalajara special. Which is chicken, shrimp, onions, peppers, and cheesy rice. Served with a side of tortillas. The most incredible dish! I almost always get. However, the last time I went I got the meat and potatoes burrito. Holy cow it's like 3 meals. The drinks selection is great, but I always go for the house like margarita. The servers are very sweet and friendly. They also give kids free ice cream after the meal and a shot if you order a margarita. I go here about once a week. The prices are very good for how big the servings are. read more

This is a great New Mexican restaurant in Omaha (although they have other locations) with a huge menu and drink menu. The chips and salsa are complimentary and can be refilled. There are two options for guacamole as an appetizer, one that comes with other veggies mixed in. We ordered the plain guacamole which needed some salt. I have ordered a few things here, and everything was good. I ordered the Mole Poblano enchilada, which was unique. It was cheese enchiladas with pork and mole sauce on the top. I have recommended this restaurant to numerous friends as a good alternative to La Mesa. The staff are friendly and attentive. read more

The food was quite flavorful not the usual bland tasting Mexican food you find in Omaha. The portions were a bit large but I think I'm the only one that complains about that. Now the Margaritas were awesome and (here's where portions matter) I can't complain about the size. Our server was very attentive and had no issues accommodating my dietary restrictions. read more

This is a sit down full service restaurant, guacamole is very fresh and served in the cool little bowl like they might have made it in. Very good and generous with the chips ($9) Fajita Hawaiian style, with pineapple, very good with fresh tortillas, your choice of meat, rice & beans.($15) and chicken primavera. (veggies & chicken $12). Cali burrito, bigger than the plate, like the Mexican flag, huge burrito, ($12). All very good and fresh, nothing was spicy, ask for hot sauce. With drinks $2.50, each, total dinner was $55 before tip. Tip well for good service!. We'll come back. read more

My wife and I have been to El Muchacho Alegre many times with our family and our friends. This is one of our favorite restaurants to frequent. The service is always top notch and the food is great. Honestly, we would be happy just eating the chips and salsa and drinking margaritas. However, everything we have ordered from the menu has been fantastic. My favorite is the Fajitas Texanas which is a combination of steak, chicken, and shrimp. The flavor is excellent. My wife loves the enchiladas verdes. We always walk out with left overs for lunch the following day which is a nice bonus. This place is getting so popular that they are opening a second location. I'm glad to see a local restaurant that is thriving. read more

With a new location coming to Gretna we wanted a sneak peak. The food and drinks were great but the service stole the show, it's been a long time since I raved about service at a restaurant. The moment you sit down you are greeted and chips/salsa is in front of you. We watched this happen over and over again and employees hustled no matter what role. Chips and salsa were a great start, and we also tried the guacamole, highly recommend! The chips are thin and crispy and allow the salsa to shine, which is very flavorful! We all had different margaritas and they were all good, particularly the jalapeño margarita (but no spice!) I had the oasis margarita which was pretty to look at and tasted great! We both got margaritas- mine was the top shelf, which was very good classic margarita with a good amount of tequila! My oldest got a seafood burrito, which he said was fantastic with their queso. My middle got the chicken taco and quesadilla, both of which he said were some of the best he's had. The youngest ordered the cheese quesadilla, beans, and Mexican coke - I think the coke bottle alone made it her favorite spot now. I'm giving it a 3 because we have been here about 5 times and the food is very good. The fajitas are excellent. The chips are warm and the salsa is very flavorful. They have always brought us a second round if they say we were low on chips and salsa. We have always had great service on FRIDAY evenings. Now for the bad part- we went Saturday night - 7-15. Worst server ever. When she did come by she was always in a hurry. Forgot my friends queso dip- completely and we didn't have time to ask for it because she never came back until the end! No refills on water or iced tea, didn't ask if we wanted a 2nd drink for those having a drink, didn't bring silverware then didn't bring enough sets. Had to ask for our bill at the front because she didn't return. Then she looked at us because she didn't even remember waiting on us! I wonder why? Our daughter was server in college- we tip well, usually!! Last night she got zero. She didn't do a thing to earn anything. Very frustrating because we like this place. It will be hard for me to go back. She ruined our experience. read more
