El Nibble Nook is located on 8 Mile Rd & Grand River in Livonia. They are fondly called "The Nook" and they are one of my regular go to spots every month. Yes, I said every month! My go-to meal at The Nook is their hard shell beef taco dinner. It comes with beans, rice plus chips and salsa. Sometimes I'm not in the mood for beans and will get double rice instead. Their guacamole is so delicious! The restaurant has both a restaurant and a bar area for dining in. Tip: If you are ordering takeout, I recommend added Frank's Original Hot Sauce to your tacos. Hi came here with some friends because of their glowing recommendations. There's quite a bit of seating inside and it was a nice place to enjoy a meal with people and chat. Our waitress kept bringing out new chips and salsa even though the menu said only the first basket was on the house, which was nice! The chips were homemade and I believe the salsa is too. I ordered enchiladas for my entree: there was good flavor in both the beef and chicken. The meat tasted fresh and I appreciated that they used corn tortilla for these. On the downside, the chicken was a little dry. I also would have liked more enchilada sauce on top. It came with refried beans, which were okay. They're not my favorite to begin with, but they were better than other refried beans I've had at other restaurants. It also came with rice: I liked that they had tomato mixed throughout. This is the quintessential Mexican American place. I was on the fence between 3 and 4 stars, but based on my experience, the food overall, and the reasonable prices, I'm rounding up to 4. Nothing was fresh. The blandest Mexican I've ever tasted. Salsa and enchiladas sauce was the same sauce just warm. Enchiladas were served like warm, pouring grease from the cheese which hardened before it was possible to eat. Beans tasted like they were direct from a can and rice seemed boxed. Lighting is low which is odd because the average age of the people eating there meant everyone had flashlight on their phone open. Service was tops though. read more

This is a neighborhood spot I see alllll the time the time and finally got around to checking out! It's very dark in here but festively decorated. Service was prompt and super friendly. I ordered the nachos madres churros for an appetizer which is pretty much bacon and cheese nachos. My companion and I were trying to figure out why they have churros in the name because nothing is churro about the dish! They were delicious though, super crispy, hot and cheesy. I had to make myself stop eating them so I could eat some of my food . For my entree I got the chicken enchiladas, these were superb. The chicken was seasoned very well and the dish hot and cheesy. The rice and beans that came with the dish were subpar though, especially the beans. They tasted and looked like they came straight out a can...no doctoring up or anything. I also had two strawberry margaritas. We initially requested non-frozen for our first round...and they bought frozen. We drank them though! And they were really good, they tasted like they used real strawberries when making them. Our second round we again ordered non-frozen strawberry margaritas and that's what we got. First and last time coming here - Came in with a large party which they accommodated. Ordered shrimp fajitas and the waitress came back saying they only had enough shrimp for one and we had ordered 3. Ordered steak instead - steak was cooked the way I ordered it but the whole dish was greasy. Didn't eat anything except the steak off the plate and that was only because I was hungry. They didn't charge me for the dish since there was an issue but I won't be back. Food was blah and the manager did not handle the issues well. At one point he said "it is what it is" and said I won't be giving anyone a discount for not having shrimp. I walked away at that point so I'm not sure exactly what was said. He did end up taking $5 off everyone's entree and didn't charge 2 people for their food since we had to order something different because of being out of shrimp. read more

Robin was friendly. I ordered meat and cheese enchiladas. The cheese was melted but the filling was cold. Mild sauce didn't have a kick to it. Rice had chunks of what could have been ham but I couldn't tell. It was so dark that customers used cell phones to read menu. I like to see what I'm eating. I came here the other night with some friends. I know I have been here before, but it was long ago. The place was pretty busy when we got there, but we got seated quickly, which was nice. I have to say many people hype this place up, so when I came here, I was worried I would be disappointed. I ordered Tacos (3 hard shells) and three corn tortillas filled with your choice of seasoned beef or seasoned chicken. Deep fried, then topped with shredded cheese, fresh chopped lettuce, and tomatoes. They also came with Rice and Beans. I have to say they were delicious. The price to portion was a good value; hands down, great food. My only downside is I* think their margaritas are way overpriced. $36 for a half liter; it was a decent margarita but, in my opinion, not worth 36 bucks. Maybe I am spoiled by another place I go to, and I get a Texas Margarita Grand Marne and Patron and Mixer for $9.99 with more than a half liter in a glass. That is my only rub other than that this place is fantastic food and customer service is five stars. I am not sure why this place has a 3-star rating on yelp; I am still giving a 5-star review and think they are overcharging for Margaritas. However, the food is fantastic. read more

Nothing is made from scrAtch, it's all prepared ahead of time For example, I wanted to modify the nachos and the rude bartender told me tHe meat was prepared ahead of time. So I ordered the cheese enchiladas. You can literally taste the wrappeR it came out of. The margaritas they make come from a mix they prepare earlier in the day. To top it off, the bartender had a cold or something that was constantly causing him to wipe his nose. HE DID IT WITH HIS BARE HANDS and then had the audacity to make me a drink. The guacamole is not freshly made either. Just something out of a can. There's a reason this restaurant that is on the corner of 8 mile and Grand River IS ALWAYS EMPTY! But, the White Castle, Dunkin Donuts and Wendy's is busier than they are for HAPPY HOUR! Their happy hour is a joke! Literally the place is ALWAYS empty and I can see why. The Botana is why you come here. Botana, Botana, Botana!!! I like the Botana - but no Avacado though. The cheese, I am a mark for melted cheese. Melted cheese is my fetish, through in jalapeno, but keep away that vile Avacado, I'm all in and you should be too. The rest of the menu is standard Mexican fare, which is fine by me. Every city should have their standard Mexican fare and I like it, which means that if someone suggested El Nibble Nook, I am not gonna say no, I'm gonna say, Hell Yeah! I think their tacos here are lit, a little bit more filling than others. The one thing that scares me is their Margarita and other alcohol drinks. The drinks are done really good, a little too good, so good that I've seen many over-indulge....and the ones who do, become demons......Montezuma's Demons. This one dude straight up becomes a Tequilla Demon and I'm straight-up afraid of him when he has too much.....He is "Mad at the World" and it's scary. My guess he is that scary because of how scary good the cocktail is.....and Botana. (But yeah, he is a douchebag after drinking here) What are yall putting in these yummy drinks nook? Fight Serum :) But yeah, perfect Margaritas, best tasting - in moderation. I recommend this place for Botana and Margaritas, but only in moderation. Tacos are a 10, beans can be dry at times, rice too, but not that often. I would eat it 7 days a week. Hubby and I go here occasionally, because he likes the quesadillas. I'm not sold on this location; the ambiance and food are nowhere near as nice as its West Bloomfield sister. For some reason, we always get seated on the "stage", a raised platform across from the bar. One of the worst crimes of the decor is this: If you're facing the bar and look ahead and to your left, you will see the ugliest, creepiest '60s style clown picture you ever saw. Next time I'm there I'll take a picture and post it here. It's unbelievable. The place contains some other really horrible art, but the clown pic takes the cake. I will say, the service here is always friendly and efficient. Drinks are filled, plates are removed, entrees come hot. Also, the margaritas are decent. However, the food is blah (apparently other than the quesadillas, which I don't eat). The refried beans, the salsa, and the rice all taste like they're right from the can, which I think they are. Started off with cold chips and salsa. Chips, definitely came out of a bag. Ordered the combination plate and my boy orders the soft taco dinner. Food came to the table about 8 minutes later. How? Was the food reheated after it was already pre-made? My burrito had the thickest white cheese. Had no taste and the beef was atrocious. Rice and beans were not fresh and served cold. I had two other items and the taste was lacking. I only ate about 10 % of my food My sons tacos had an abundance of lettuce. Beef was very poor quality. Restaurant was dirty and old. Carpet was disgusting. Debris on the floor and three servers continued to walk by. Sever allowed our plates to sit in front of us, even after she gave us our check. Do not go here! We were told it was a 15 minute wait and we would be texted when our table was ready. We watched as the person at the door seated at least 12 people who were not ahead of us. When we tried to ask what was going on, the person at the front and a server went off on us. What happened to customer service? Why did the staff go off on us? On our first visit to this location, we were very impressed. We'd heard this was an awesome spot and made the drive to check it out tonight. We were not disappointed. Every now and then, you find a place that only the locals know about. This is one of those places. They've been around for 7 decades I'm told. Their experience shows. Our server Garrett was great, and had a great sense of humor. He got everything right. Chips and salsa were great! The chicken fajita and beef burrito delicious, and fresh. This was our #TakeoutTuesday pick this week. Several people have reccomended this restaurant, so I was excited to give it a try! Tacos were excellent and crunchy. Beef and cheese nacho looked a little boring, but my daughter liked them. My mom said she enjoyed the enchiladas. My husband got the Tijuana Bypass and gave it two thumbs up. This review is for a curbside pickup/takeout dinner on a Friday evening during COVID. I had asked around my local FB group for restaurant suggestions and this one came well-recommended by a few people. I really wanted to be able to leave a better review, but I was honestly really unimpressed/"meh" with this meal. This was especially unfortunate since we had this dinner on my birthday. For two people, we ordered the super botana with chicken, the beef fiesta, and a side of guac. We also received chips and salsa with our meal, refried beans and rice, and one of the dishes came with a side of sour cream. The drive was about 15 minutes from home, for reference. When we got everything unpacked, the food was not hot. I really didn't want to eat a lukewarm birthday dinner, so we put the botana in the oven for a few minutes and the other hot food in the microwave. I know, not ideal, but the temperature was bad enough that I thought it was necessary. I think it's important to mention this because I'm sure this might affect how the rest of the food was consumed. The chips (from the chips and salsa) were good. Not too salty, which I prefer. The salsa was too spicy for me to eat (did I miss a mild option?) but my husband enjoyed it. By the time the botana was heated back up, the chips were soggy and fell apart when trying to eat it. Had to use forks. The chicken was good but also a bit spicy for my taste. The beef fiesta dish wasn't bad, but it just wasn't anything special. I wasn't a fan of the taco titanico. I think part of it was because there was a lot of lettuce, and I don't like hot lettuce (since we had to reheat the whole thing). The enchilada and flauta were decent. Side of guac was fine. Tasted heavy on the lime juice, which I like but my husband doesn't. The avocado could have been mashed more but at least it was fresh. Just overall an underwhelming experience for us. I waited a few days to write this review because I didn't want to be biased by birthday disappointment. I would personally not order carry-out from here again, and I'd honestly just rather try a different place for Mexican food next time. One redeeming quality is that the people there were really nice (in our limited curbside pickup interactions). Again- it wasn't terrible, it was just mediocre. read more

Old, hasn't been updated, dark, no windows. Tile tables, not level, shake. Apparently, Guacamole is only served with meals and not as a side "per Mexico shortage" according to our server. We guess going to Kroger is out of the question. The chips are hard and stale, seems big bag and store bought. The salsa is jar/ can made Our margarita's were small and were exactly like big plastic jug grocery store kind. $6.25 for about 6 to 8.0 oz, the salt on the glass appeared to be from a shaker that you find at a fast food joint. Stick with beer, Bar Tender is better at the lotto machine than making drinks. Wife's burrito showed, the "ranchero sauce" was ridiculously smothered everything on the plate, made it barely edible. My chili relano was soaking wet and watery. I usually order a chili relano, have had some absolutely wonderful ones over the years..I know to ask for the sauce on the side. Glad I did. As wet and watery and not ripe the poblano was, it was a good call. I ate about 2/3 of only one. Refried beans were canned, mex rice was packaged. Sons shrimp fajita was "ok", rhe guacamole that was served was 100% package made. There was nothing fresh about it. Server took burrito off, told her not to worry about my uneaten plate. My Tecate in a can was perfect...even tho no glass was brought with and the lime served with it couldn't fit in my mouth let alone the can. Lived in Livonia since 2001. Had dinner there today, right before seeing Grown-Ups at the Livonia AMC. Its been many many moons since I steeped into this place. First "re"-impression was, I thought the place was very colorful , and I liked the twinkle lighting and the tea light on all the tables. In any event, the waitress was friendly, the places was clean, the only thing that bothered me was, there were several rooms and not too many people in the joint, but they sat us all in the same room, this to me knocks a little off the total package, but not too much in this case. Well, as with any Mexican Cantina, they start you off with chips and salsa...this is something that stands out for me, because its first thing you get and sort of the "welcome to our restaurant" you get. The chips were fresh, but not warmed (maybe Old Mexico is the only place that does that), and the salsa was ok but a little more pasty than I like. I ordered the combo plate (they had about 6 of them) I had the tostada, taco and enchilada plate, with rice and beans. It was certainly fresh and the flavor was decent. There was SO much lettuce and tomatoes that it spilled all over when I picked it up. This place has a full service bar, and can offer catering and banquet services. For me El Nibble Nook (a unique name indeed) was decent and worthy of a repeat visit, and had all the makings to be a fun group gathering kind of place. read more

This is not Mexican food, My wife and I both had shredded beef chimichangas. The shredded beef tastes like bbq, like mushy and been soaked in Open Pit BBQ sauce (my apologies if I gave away your trade secret). The beans were real stiff and looked exactly like a scoop of chocolate ice cream scoop marks and all! The botana was beyond laughable! Not a single avocado slice on the botana but don't worry because they covered it in soggy pickle slices straight from the bucket I assume! I was torn between 3 and 4 stars here, so I rounded down for some reason. the food was excellent, but the rest of my time spent here was not that great. We came here on our bosses suggestion for one of our regular staff meetings. I've heard of this place before but never went because it's really to far out of my way. When I walked inside, it was wonderfully decorated, but something about it seemed tired. I can't explain it, but it was just tired looking. We were seated off to the side and immediately after sitting down I realized our table was wobbly. I hate this! Secondly, our waitress was pleasant, but nothing to write home about. I ended up reviewing the menu and want with the California tacos with shredded beef. It was delicious! The shells tasted home made, the refried beans were awesome and the rice was spot on! Food was an overall hit with me! I can't go more then three stars here because I'm looking at the whole picture. Food was spectacular, but that was it. I have been a lifetime patron of El Nibble Nook. We have celebrated many life's events or just a random Friday night at the little restautant at the corner of 8 Mile and Grand River. My son and I got a craving and chose Mexican. He ordered the burrito con carne and I ordered the tacos titanicos, which I have been ordering for 30+ years. The taco shells were stale and soggy, the meat was super greasy, the shredded lettuce was brown, the rice tasted like it had been reheated for several days, and the beans were dry with little flavor. My son's burrito was swimming in grease and his stomach started to hurt after eating one. I am so bummed about this. It really was, and I hope is again in the future, a fantastic place for Mexican food. read more

I don't care what my peers say, this establishment caters to a mixed crowd of locals in an area I grew up in, they always have had exceptional service and do their best as a dedicated and experienced staff to accommodate their patrons, I adore dining in adobe-style coves. The margaritas are always strong enough to relax too. The food can be tweaked to your liking after you find your niche. Im gnna be 100% honest here.... My gf and i just stopped at enn to grab a quick bite before her medical procedure at the hospital across the street... We ordered the small guac (market price 6.99), the cheese and chili appetizer thing (cant remember the name bc my gf ordered) and a small salsa. The expensive guac was ok, if you like guac that tastes exactly like mashed avocado and nothing else. No salt, garlic or anything...just avocado. I like mine w a lot of flavor- this guac had close to zero flavor. The cheesy/chili thing tasted just like hormel chili(which i do not mind at all) and cheese... you could almost taste the metal can it came in. The salsa tasted like it was from a jar. Am I being picky? No. Im being 100% honest. Bc i love mexican food... and this food sucked. Would i eat it if i was starving? Sure. But id never recommend it. And this is my 1st time here. read more
