Another shining review for Rancho-Grande. This small, family owned restaurant continues to surpass my expectations. After a long December day doing things, I didn't want to do (too much work too little time.) my wife and I stopped at our favorite restaurant for dinner. We were greeted by one of our favorite servers, Layla. Always quick and efficient, even though the restaurant was crowded when we came in, Layla took a moment to greet us seat us, and make us feel at home. The food is always outstanding, and as the restaurant emptied (we were dining a bit later, and it was very cold outside.) Layla sat and chatted with us. This family knows how to put quality and feeling into their food. We stayed a bit longer than we had expected, even though we were exhausted. It almost feels like an extension of home. The food was fast, the service was great, and the atmosphere was very comforting after a long day. Layla is the "bestest" . I worry when I go into a place at dinner and there's only one couple. Got chicken enchiladas nothing special. Beans no cheese melted on top. Rice was good. My problem is why was the plate so flipping hot. I mean like ten minutes after the food arrived. It was still hot. Enchiladas definitely got heated by that warmer light. Chimichanga: Flat and thin instead of rolled like a burrito. Chicken is not a fair amount for the price I paid. The flavor is lacking and has very strong tomato paste taste in the meat. Fajitas: Steak is tough, tough, tough! They cooked tomatoes in with it? So, there's a high tang of tomato that was not pleasing to me. Chicken burritos: They were okay. The chicken, once again, was seasoned or whatever with a very tangy, tomato flavor. Not particularly yummy. Seasoning is lacking. As a vegetarian, I'm always looking for new Mexican restaurants to try due to the South-of-the-border cocina being so friendly to those of us who like to avoid meat and dairy. Thank goodness I happen to reside in an area where there are cantinas popping up everywhere like frijoles saltarines! Even better when the food is so delicioso, as it was at Rancho Grande. The waitress started us with the traditional tortilla chips and two sauces: mild and hot. I always go for the hot one personally. Everyone else went for the mild so more heat for me! I had no problem finishing off almost the entire bowl of chips and sauce while I waited on the main entree which was bean enchiladas and rice. Well what can I say? The enchiladas were magnífico! The red sauce they use on them really brings out the flavors of the beans and tortillas. I had a slightly difficult time finishing them due to to the large portion size, as is to be expected at a Mexican restaurant, so make sure you come to Rancho Grande with an appetite! The service was good but a little slow because only one waitress was working. The prices are very fair and you will leave very full with a reasonable tab. I went here with a few of my friends a while ago. We went in to sit down and the waitress asked us what we wanted. Kyle and I were unsure of what we wanted so we told her nothing, and that we would get back to her on what we were planning on ordering. She proceeded to rudely tell Kyle and I that if we weren't going to order something right then, then we had to get out of the restaurant. Food is bland and gross. Crusty refried beans. Dryest chicken enchiladas ive ever had in my life. Stale chips. Salsa tasted like nothing but crushed tomatoes. Waitress told me "we have the best margaritas you'll ever have"...... i seriously don't even know how she can say that with a straight face. Well first time here and for being here for so many years I was expecting something different. The first thought when I walked in and seen all the pink was what am I getting myself into! There was one other table dining so they were not busy at all. I was given a small glass of water with no ice in it along with some stale tasting chips. Other restaurants give hot chips and salsa. It came with mild and hot salsa. They had a good flavor but a bit watery for my taste. I ordered the combination plate that included, a taco, burrito, enchilada and tostada with rice and beans. The beans flavor was a bit off to me almost a bit lemony or something. I ordered a side of guacamole and it seemed to be store bought because of the consistency. I did have to add salt to taste. The service was fast but my waitress didnt come back to ask if I needed anything till I was almost finished because she was sitting with her grandkids and another woman. They were calling her grandma. The food was decent for the price but I dont see myself coming back anytime soon but not that I ever wouldnt. When another waitress cleared my dishes she brought me some fried tortilla strips with honey that was a nice surprise. Just enough for something sweet. So all in all it didnt feel like quite the authentic mexican meal which I have had in Mexico and at friends houses. But it dies in a pinch. read more

Been dining at Rancho Grande for many years for homemade Mexican food. This is the ONLY place that I will go out to eat for Mexican food. The owners take pride in their food, how it's made and presented. Food always tastes the same when ordering the same item. Can always depend on that consistency. :) read more

My wife and stopped in last night and were very happy with the service and food. While I would agree that the two salsa's we were given were very similar in flavor, one being a bit more spicy than the other. When we brought this to the attention of our very attentive server, she kicked it up a few notches and made the wife very happy. As for our entrees my wife had Chicken Mole, which thought to be the best she'd had. For me the Steak Chihuahua was very tender and flavorful. Big thumbs up, we'll be back soon. read more

My family and I just moved into Garden City and was looking for a great Mexican restaurant to satisfy our constant cravings. A nearby CVS referred me to Rancho Grande so we thought we would give it a try. We walked in and no one greeted us, there was no sign indicating whether it was a "seat yourself" restaurant or not, and when someone finally did come out she said very rudely "Go in and sit". We sat down and when our impolite waitress finally got our drink order we had to wait about 10 minutes for her to actually bring it. She then asked if we were ready. I had a couple of questions about the food and she seemed very annoyed impatient so I just guessed what I wanted to get her away from us. Looking around the place was very dingy, the decor consisted of pinatas and grossly-dirty hot pink walls. The floor looked nasty and mucky and our water cups were stained with lips marks. We told our waitress about our dirty cups and she just rolled her eyes, grabbed them from our hands, and walked off..no apologies or anything. We received our food and to our amazement, it was actually really good. I mean, DELICIOUS! Perfectly seasoned, everything tasted so fresh, and you could definitely tell the chef/owner had a lot of passion for it. In the middle of enjoying our food, our waitress started yelling at another waitress in the dining room about what customer arrived first and that she needs to "get off her ass and clean tables". I had my 3-year-old daughter with me and I was so incredibly offended, we almost walked out right then. We will NEVER eat there again. I just got back from the Rancho Grande Mexican restaurant in Garden City. We had the meanest waitress I've ever encountered in my life! Rude every second from start to finish. She had the most angry, unfriendly glare. She practically threw the food at us, slamming it onto the table. I asked her for something and as she rushed by she abruptly said "I'm not gonna answer you right now! I'm taking them their food!" Though she wasn't carrying any food at the time. Her tone was short and angry. She messed up all of our orders and then treated us as though we were to blame for asking for minus guac and sour cream. She and the cook argued for ten minutes, over who was right about the orders. The food was mediocre at best. I asked if they had a ground beef chimichanga because it only said shredded beef or chicken on the menu. She looked at me as though I was a huge idiot. She was very impatient when you ask a question. The place was empty and when I've driven by in the past, it usually appears empty. Now I know why. At 38 years old, I can honestly say this experience has taken the title of worst dining experience of my life thus far. There aren't even words for how unbelievable it was. We love this place. We get carryout once a week. Great prices great food. The owners are mexican right out of Mexico City, Mexico (the origial owners) The Grandkids run it now with all Grandmas recipies and cooking styles. Most of the staff are family. One things I found out and like about this is they are not like more Mexican restraint I have gone to a lot and their meat ins only onion and meat not here.
