After looking at the other reviews I have to wonder about what happened to my experience? I arrived on a Monday around 6:30 pm and there was only one other table in the entire restaurant of three people who were getting ready to leave. As I walked to the counter I noticed that behind the counter there were nacho chips in baskets stacked on top of each other under a light ready to be served to tables. Yuk! I was told I could sit anywhere so I was looking for a seat away from the a/c vents because it was so cold inside that I was glad I had my jacket. As I sat looking at the menu I started to put on my hood due to how cold it was but barreled through without covering up. I did not complain just ordered my food. I was helped by a server but don't recall him telling me his name but I can tell he may have been helping take out customers while attempting to serve the only table of 1 in the entire restaurant, me. Ask I got my chips I noticed dried sauce on the basket and not any type of separation from my chips. Yuk. My food came out quick but unfortunately I ordered a water and never got it. Glad I had my own with me. The food was good and fresh. As I came to the front to cash out I asked for receipt and was told that they could not give out receipts because their register cannot make copies but I could take a picture. This seemed like the norm in how they handle transactions but unfortunately is not a good way to go for me. And this is where I decided I would not be back. As i took the picture of the receipt I asked why is the name on the receipt (El Herradero) was different than the name on the building Burrito Loco? The person working who was also the person serving me said he did not know. What he didn't know is that I was looking for the restaurant El Herradero and my gps took me here so I assume they either changed the name or went out of business. Either way, unfortunately my experience here was not that great due to the service but most of all I cannot even get my own receipt for my own purposes? Wow. That's a first! read more

Fun place. As soon as you walk in your recognize if you're as old as I am. I went there for my birthday on taco Tuesday. $1 pork, chicken or chorizo tacos!!!!!! Had one of each. The pork was kind of bland though. Their hot salsa was pretty tasty. Can't wait to go back and try more of their menu. They have quesabirria tacos on the menu and I'm a fan of those things!!! read more

Came in here today, just a few hours ago, with 7 people at our table for my brothers birthday party. The food was excellent, I had the enchiladas verde which I get at a lot of places, and these were excellent. My brother had the same dish and he thought they were excellent also. The food is awesome and very affordable. But the service, based on our experience, was even better then the food if that's even possible. The waitress obviously does much more then just serve food here. She made sure everything we needed was done. She was very kind to our whole family. I really hope people come here, we were the only people eating inside but they were delivering also. They deserve all the business they can get. read more

So excited new owners from our last visit a few years ago. Folks from Mexico City with a great group of cooks. They barely speak da English except the waitress born n raised right here. Only place out of 65 Mexican restaurant Downriver that still has $1 Tacos on Tuesday, carry out or dining inside as many as you want. I order a six pack, two each Shredded Chicken, Al Pastor and Chorizo absolutely Wonderful . We started with a mega Queso Fundidio loaded with Chorizo in Hot Bubbly Cheese WOWED a must try. She had a Chunky Beef Botona delicious , I added a pair of Spicy Pork Tamales Omg outstanding. They have the King of Salsa from Veracruz Mexico called Salsa Macha my favorite. They made a creamy green bowl of dip for me to try. Holy Hottest burnt da Gringo long time, they all laughing and offer me more water. If you enjoy the heat ask for both Salsa Macha and Creamy Green Sauce for a burn. Going back Tuesday to try mucho more of that menu . The building finally found its niche. It changed hands several times until the current owner made it work. The restaurant has daily specials that are fast but really good. The nacho special on Friday is a great option for 2 people who are slightly lean on funds. A big nacho with basic toppings for $8.00 plus it's real food and not a burger? Not too bad! The restaurant itself is pretty basic and a throwback to the older Detroit restaurants on Bagley. Inside are old saddles and even a really old piece of great Americana history on one wall which the owners have no idea about! Overall, the environment is basic, relaxed, and clean. It really has the charm of a small family owned Taqueria. I gave it four outta five stars only because the food is always hot, fresh, and delicious but sometimes the dinners could be a little meatier, if meatier makes sense? However, that's an issue in many places and I assume it's a problem with cooks more than the establishment. Besides, 5 stars says perfection and I can't wait to say any place was perfect so 4 outta 5 is pretty good for a little place. After a day at the Henry Ford museum we took our 3 hungry boys here for an early dinner. It was delicious!! Tasty Mexican food that hit the spot. I don't get it. Reading the other reviews...I have no idea. I guess this could be 5 stars if you're comparing it to the other restaurants in the neighborhood (on Van Born Rd) I've honestly never had good food from any restaurant on Van Born. I hate to feel like I'm picking on the neighborhood, but how is Ponderosa and La Hacienda still open?? 0.o I got carry-out tacos here. My instructions weren't followed. Bag was tied up real tight which felt like it was on purpose so I couldn't check them before I left. No flavor. Dull yet greasy. Could hardly tell the different meats apart. I also order guac to go and it was super disappointing. Also a crazy small amount for the price and quality. No seasoning (that I could tell), couldn't even taste lemon or lime juice. Just raw onions and tomatoes mixed in mushed avocado. Chips tasted stale. The food coming out of the window to tables were covered in cheese and lacked color. Guessing off of what I saw, the cheese and portion sizes are the appeal. The ambiance in the place...it would take minimal effort to give this place a quick facelift. Think....a poorly lit 1990's pizza hut, playing low level mariachi music, with hand written poster board notices on the wall and poor storage space. It's a 10 minute drive further to get better quality mexican food that doesn't leave you feeling confused and disappointed about the experience. read more

Their chicken tacos are so heavenly. They give you everything on the side to avoid your tacos from ripping. I ordered cheese and they gave me a ton of it. The meat was so juicy and delicious. You don't need to add anything to it because everything is seasoned well. Great spot! read more

Satisfying. That's Burrito LOCO in a word. The decor and menu are both classic, reasonably priced Tex-Mex. Took a group of co-workers for lunch and we ordered the enchiladas and chimichangas. Everyone agreed the food was good and the value was excellent. Not sure if the salsa is homemade, but the medium is very flavorful and the hot was actually spicy. We'll certainly be back. read more

I'm so happy that Burrito Loco has opened in the same location as El Herradero occupied. I was saddened by its closing. Our neighborhood is better with its addition. It's clean, nicely decorated and the staff is very friendly. The food was great. For my first visit I had the combination #1. Could use a little more spices, but solid nice food. The chimichangas looked amazing. Served hot and filling, it's a great value. I would love an addition to the menu of my beloved carne asada fries. They would make my day. We ordered carry out from here and it was really good, and a ton of food!! We ordered a chicken chimichanga and a beef chimichanga (came with 2 of each) chips and salsa, and guacamole. The salsa wasn't the best, but it was fine. The guacamole was delicious though and so were the chimichangas. Will definitely go back! read more

I came here awhile ago and was beyond disappointed with their food, the best way to tell how good it will be, order a botana, now, is there a pound of grease? Yes? Then pass, which I should of, but then I tired again today... I live 15 house down from this place. Called, phone rang until it hung up on its own. Called back, "please hold" is how I was greeted, and placed on hold (which is fine) but literally 11 mins later they come back on and hang up without even saying a word to me, I call back and ask if everything is okay, I was being rushed to place my order. I explained that I called and was on hold for 11 mins, no apologies or nothing, her response was "we didnt know you was on the phone". I asked who put me on hold then, she says "would you like to place an order" still not apologetic or anything, I told her "no, not from a place where the left hands doesnt know what is going on with the right" and that I would go to hacienda, she says "okay" then hangs up. Bad food is one thing, horrible customer service is another. I HIGHLY recommend you pass on this place. Zero stars if it let me. I went for dinner because I've been wanting to go back since the new managers took over and the reviews have been better. I wasn't impressed. First of all the salsa. Who makes salsa with chili powder? At least, that's what it tasted like. And the chips were cold. I'm used to Mexican Fiesta where the salsa is MUCH better, made with fresh tomato and the chips are deep-fried and brought warm to the table. I had the meat burritos and they were OK but nothing to write home about. I'll give it another try and try the tacos. But seriously. They really need to do something about that salsa and those chips. read more
