I felt like going for a drive and trying a new place, so I decided on Calixto Mexican Grill after I read the reviews. When I got there, I was a little disappointed to see that it was an order at the counter type of place, but I figured I might as well. So, I started to stand in line to order. One of the owners asked if I was carrying out & I said no, I was planning to eat there. So, he told me to have a seat and he'd serve me. He asked what I wanted to drink and when he said watermelon fresca, I thought that sounded good. Alas, I didn't like it very much. It was too sweet and didn't have much flavor. I suggested to him that maybe lemon or lime would go nicely in it. I did take most of it home, and I think I'll try adding tonic water to it. I ordered an elote on the cob -- something I've only had once before and had been looking for. It was pretty good, although a little salty. I enjoyed it, though. It happened to be Tuesday, and they have $2 street tacos -- really just the meat, some onions and garnish (no cheese) . I chose a chicken, a beef and let him choose a third, and he brough al pastor. I did use some sauce on them, but they were pretty good. I noticed that they have a good amount of traffic; it was 2:00, but people kept coming in. A lot of them seemed to be regular customers. The owners were very friendly and were truly interested in what I liked & didn't like. The prices were pretty reasonable as well. I don't know if I'd make a special trip here again or not, but I'd certainly consider stopping if I'm in the area. read more

My wife told me that she read that the locals were raving about this place. We had to go and try it. Place is small, just 4 booths and 3 small Tables. Not a very impressive start. Opening the door the ordering counter was huge. When we entered it felt like McDonald's or Taco Bell. The menu glaring behind the counter so that even a dummy like me could understand. We elected to sit down at one of the small tables. We were promptly greeted by a worker. His English was broken at best, we had trouble understanding him. We looked at the menu and were surprised by how he reasonable prices were. It was taco Tuesday so my wife ordered a couple of tacos while I ordered an enchiladas plate and a couple drinks for us. Food came out promptly and hot. Presentation was excellent. The real surprise when we dug into the food. It was delicious. Atmosphere was all hard surfaces with sound bouncing around. Paper towels and hot sauce on the tables. The server ever brought out three different additional hot sauces and explained each to us. Portion size was good without being too small or overly large. Once again, the taste was great. Lots of carry out business, which is to be expected in a place like this, with people coming and going. When we were done the server talked us into a churro for dessert. Once again the food quality was excellent. So for the $64k question, would we go back? Absolutely. If you're looking for a fancy place to impress your friends with a fancy decor etc. place this isn't the spot. But, if you want to impress them with excellent food, this is it. we haven't gotten out of the house much over the last few years food wise - this is one of the first new restaurants that I have tried in a while. I have been seeing this online and wanted to try it. The ordering process online was very easy. They use clover which I am familiar with. Sometimes I have difficulties ordering online which deters me from doing so but this experience was smooth and easy. pick up was also easy I must've had perfect timing because I walked in and nobody was there. It was a bit early for dinner rush so maybe I got a super late lunch early dinner which was perfect for me because my order was ready exactly when they said it was going to be ready and the guy at the counter was super nice and even let me practice Spanish with him . I was a bit embarrassed or whatever but these people quickly let me know that they are non-judgemental and very nice and friendly I will definitely be back. I didn't notice if there was a whole lot of dining in options. This might be more of a pick up only location but I will definitely be either dining in or picking up more often our food was delicious. It didn't lack flavour at all. It was authentic Mexican food which has been hard to find in Livonia. There is only a few places around here that I would even trust going to nothing against American people. It's just people from their own culture. Do better at cooking so Mexican cuisine needs to come from people who know the cuisine and that's what I love about here versus another chain restaurant or something it is authentic. It's not from a can or frozen or pre-prepared. They make everything there. It's delicious and I cannot wait to eat my leftovers today. Very good food. If you want Tex-Mex or Mexican style food they do it all. I got tacos the traditional way in pollo, asada and camaron. Prices are reasonable, the sour cream and salsa verde were excellent and the inside of the restaurant is also very vibrant and worth eating inside vs doing take out. First time there so I decided to get myself a breakfast burrito. It was terrible,horrible and disgusting .!!! I made one of the biggest mistakes of my foodie career!! It was dry and I was so angry and disappointed that I decided to go there. I guess I shouldn't be surprised by that because it was ready in 6 minutes. Maybe because I was not one of the regulars who was there. Maybe because they were trying to tell me not to come back I'm not sure but I won't be going back there again. This place is cute but small. I managed to snag the last of about 8 tables. I was greeted immediately as soon as I entered. My waiter was super nice and sweet. I ordered the quesabirria, chips and guacamole and horchata. No free chips here! Prices very but are reasonable . I hadn't planned on drinking which was good because they do not serve alcohol. Horchata was very good! Haven't had it but maybe one other time so not sure if it would be considered good horchata compared to others but it was very delicious to me, so creamy and cinnamon! Chips and guacamole were insanely good, I just wish my chips were warm, that would have really set it off. But they were crispy and fresh . The quesabirria tacos were the best I've had, the meat was seasoned well and flavorful as was the birria soup. I stuffed myself silly, everything was so good smh! Only misstep was on my end, I took a bite of the grilled jalapeño on my plate; I like jalepenos but omg my mouth was on FIRE for a good 15 minutes afterwords. This place sets the bar high for Mexican food. Hands down, it's the best Mexican food I've had, period! The wife and I had the Shrimp Fajitas and they were so good that we will likely crave them in the days to come. The Guacamole is addictive! Our grandsons had the birria tacos and they felt the same way about their food. The owner and staff are friendly, upbeat and attentive making us feel welcome and appreciated. I almost never leave bad reviews, you can see my history, but this one truly deserved it. New operation, no care to the detail, soggy wet quesadilla, truly uneatable. I also got a kids quesadilla for my son, it came out a little better, but still so undercooked and rushed, and it took a very long time to receive it. French fries also doggy and undercooked. Only giving them a -3- because they have just opened. But the overall experience was rather rough. Arrived about 6pm, crowded. Ambiance is just like one of those 24-hour hamburger places - divey diner. They have 4 small booths, three 2-top tables and a couple 4-top tables outside. Colorful signs outside. Paved parking on one side, dirt lot on the other side. The line at the register was long (7 people). Funny thing, there were 5 employees (that I saw) .. 2 at the front counter and 3 in the back kitchen area. But it took somebody almost 7-10 minutes to speak to the woman at the front of the line! I mean they never even looked up to acknowledge her presence. This is obviously their first experience in the food business ... there was no organization - at all! I finally got a chance to order and initially stated that this was to be a takeout. LOL, so after finally getting in my order, he asks, "takeout or inside"?! Crazy busy. Surprisingly, they had my order before the two people in front of me got theirs. Just ordered tacos, 2 ground beef and 2 chicken .. they were OK. Tacos are done in those floppy corn tortillas (flour option), they don't carry the hard shell type. I like the sliced radishes on them .. crispy and fresh. Included grilled onions, a whole large jalapeno pepper and two salsas (red, medium hot and green, mild). Then I looked at the bill when I got home .. they charge a 3% Credit Card Surcharge .. and didn't even tell me about it!! At least give me the option. Don't let it be a surprise! Trying to sneak one by, eh? They just passed a law in California forbidding restaurant surcharges .. they have to incorporate it in the menu prices. Great customer service! I ordered carryout and they made sure my order was correct. I spoke with Enrique and he shared how they prepare the carnitas: baked! My husband enjoyed the carnitas tacos lunch special. I had the quesabirria with consomé, and it was delicious. Arroz y frijoles were on point. Our entrees were served with grilled onions, fresh radishes and cucumbers, and lime wedges. We'll be back! read more

I gave three stars because the customer service is great, but the rest leaves something to be desired. First time I came and ordered to go the food was cold had to heat it up when I got home. Tried them again and I ordered tacos with rice and black beans they only gave me the tacos but I wasn't charged for the missing rice and bean. My loaded fry came out incorrect the first time, second time they still forgot the guacamole so I suggest making sure you say all the ingredients when you order. Also ordered the cheese and pepper tamale but the filling didn't stay so it was more of a deconstructed tamale. It was a large crowd so I know it was probably rushed so hopefully on a slower day it may be better. Customer service great so may be why I'll give them another try. read more

Went to Calixto Grill today to try their food. It's a walk up order and then they bring you the food. There were four tables for three and about six booths. The order was promptly taken. We ordered two carnitas tacos and two chicken tacos. Each came with grilled onions,sliced radishes,and a grilled pepper on each plate. We received no silverware and the napkins were on paper towel holders. Food was promptly served and I also ordered chips and salsa. For a drink we ordered a horchata drink which was good. My meat tacos were good and I enjoyed the grilled pepper(not too hot). My wife's chicken was minced and ok. Her pepper was too hot for me to eat. The chips and warm salsa were not worth the 5.99 I payed for them. The meal was adequate with most meals listed at 10.00 to 12.00. The food tasted good though the chicken seemed bland. We would return in the future but be very selective in what we ordered. 21.99 for four tacos,a non alcoholic drink and a bowl of so so chips with heated salsa seemed a little high but they have taco Tuesday for 2.00 a taco. Might return for those,but mostly a Carry out business. We wish them well. read more
