First things first! The address is incorrect on Yelp, it's 315 SW 11th street! The opposite direction, 2-3 blocks. So my wife and I went to check this place out, as our job relocated us to Hermiston OR, 2 days ago! So we decided to try El Nopal Restaurant. We went in and the decor was beautiful! Very authentic. Now the service, George was our sever and to be honest, it was a little challenging communication wise, but George did an AMAZING JOB! He made sure our food was good and came out correctly, The food was on point! A little light in the meats seasoning, but it was extremely good, It's a family run business that works together and from what I've seen, it works! It's a great spot for Mexican Food and according to my wife who's Mexican American, the food is worth the trip! We're definitely coming back! read more

I came here by referral but man I wish I knew better not to come on a Sunday. Let's start with service. We had two waiters. One seemed confused and like he was hungover from the Saturday 2-3am karaoke night they have there idk I could be wrong but he was struggling. If it's an illness I'm sorry I didn't know I dont Know and mean no insult. He couldn't talk much, hick ups and slurs I really couldn't understand him. Nice guy but bad service. I had to finish his sentences for him on the menu. 2nd waiter was polite as well. Well spoken. Took care of us as he should to any customer. Took over after he noticed we weren't eating our food. I am not a man to complain. I never have even when I've found hairs in the past. I rather pay for another dish or leave. We were the first customers. Nobody inside but us. No reason why a chef or prep person couldn't wrap bacon around shrimp or as one waiter said we don't have our real chef here today so we just chop it up and throw it on there? How hard is it to wrap a shrimp with bacon? Who's cooking back there on a Sunday that is allowed to be called a chef??? Anyways, he left us after I politely asked him if this plate looked right to him? Would you eat this? He said no and left. Beans no flavor tasted old like leftovers from the day before. Rice was dry and no flavor Shrimp had ok flavor cooked well Bacon 3 pieces maybe 1" squares of bacon and undercooked I give them a 2.999 because the coke was cold tables were clean, atmosphere is warming and the 2nd waiter did his best to handle it. Although I didn't eat it I still paid for the dish but he discounted it. So I give this place that At least. This review is hard to give because we try to support and help restaurants, especially local ones with the pandemic going on... unfortunately both my wife's arroz corn camerones and my carne asada were very subpar. The vegetables in my wife's meal were uncooked, and I don't mean seared and still crunchy. I mean uncooked. My carne asada was the driest/burnt meat I've ever gotten at a restaurant. We were going to just move on and not leave a review, but my wife found a long black hair in her food, that was the deciding factor on leaving the review. The food is delicious!!! We were passing by Hermiston OR and looking for a Mexican restaurant. I am very picky eater when it comes to Mexican food (I like authentic homemade like Mexican food). Most "Mexican" restaurants I don't even touch their re-fried beans (to me they taste like canned beans), some restaurants I like their rice. Okay enough about how picky I am lol. Let me say this...this restaurant is a hidden gem! Every plate we ordered (the Molcajete, Menudo, shrimp fajitas and let's not forget the ceviche!) was delicious and YES! The rice and beans with the homemade corn tortillas!! You cannot go wrong here! It's a small mom and pop restaurant. The service was great to very nice people, just the husband and wife and son making the food and serving, but that makes it even better, they take pride on their food and make sure you like everything!! We had been wanting to try this restaurant for quite some time and unfortunately it was the worst restaurant experience I have ever experienced. From the moment we walked in, where we were not even greeted by anyone, where we felt very unwelcome, to the musty smell, to the ROTTEN food that was served to us. My mother in law ordered the 7 Mares and when she cracked open the lobster we all were taken back my a moldy smell of meat. We all feel ill. Absolutely disgusted and will never be back! read more
