After ordering, our drinks were brought out, but the food still wasn't at the table at 6:45. We asked for crayons so the children could color, but they were not forthcoming. I got up after 20 minutes to get the crayons myself. I ran into the waitress and reminded her that we needed crayons. She went and got them. We talked about leaving and paying for our drinks. The waitress came and told us there was a "glitch in the system and our ticket didn't print." That was an explanation without meaning. Our food began to arrive in pieces. It took another 15 minutes for everyone at the table (4 adults and 2 children) to get their food. Someone in management came out and comped my daughter's appetizer. Upon paying the bill, there was an automatic 18% tip added to the bill. We are good tippers and would have left at least that much (not because the service was good and not because we loved the food.) It wasn't the money I objected to, it was taking my right to determine what we would leave as a TIP (to insure promptness). It really ate at me. I called the restaurant where a women answered and told me the manager was too busy to speak to me, but she would have him call me back if I told her my problem. She became snippy and rude as I explained my issue. Later, she called back and in the same short and irritated way told me that the manager wouldn't talk to me, but they would return the tip to my credit card. I told her that was not the goal I had in mind. I wanted to let the owner/manager know that I don't like the policy of adding a tip without consent. She told me the policy was printed on the menu (I guess I was looking for food and missed the legal ease.) I suggested that the policy should be on a sign as you enter the restaurant so that people don't feel violated when you assign them an amount to leave the staff. She said, "So, do you want the refund?" I said, "yes", which kind of surprised me, but her attitude sent me over the edge. I provided my credit card information and will NEVER return to this restaurant!

Our server only checked on us when it was time to bring the bill. Throughout the meal, we were rarely acknowledged, and it didn't appear that the restaurant was busy enough to explain the lack of attention. She may have been having a bad day, and I understand that everyone has off days, but that doesn't excuse the poor level of service we received. I'm a server myself, so I understand how demanding the job can be. I always make an effort to tip because I know how important it is. However, this was one of the few times I genuinely felt that the service did not earn a gratuity. Overall, the food was very good, and the restaurant itself made a great first impression. Sadly, the service left such a negative impression that I don't see myself returning. I hope this experience was an exception and not a reflection of the standard of service at Crazy Crab.

It can seem speedy, yet, is your economics can switch to a per person charge, you will make the connection that it will be worthwhile. The "per person charge" at the mid-year mark for 2026 is approximately $35 to $53 per head. It can feel like a shock when the grand total arrives to your table. Just know, we overheard servers with a great approach- they will split the bill however you see fit! Go for the gusto - you will have bibs, gloves, and tools to help your experience be fun and fulfilling! Cheers!

The interior is very nice, with a high ceiling and well-appointed decor; perfect for date night or business dining. We ordered the shrimp, crab and artichoke dip, which was excellent! We also ordered delicious sourdough bread, which came with butter and rosemary. I got the coconut prawns while she got the cod fish taco combo, which includes clam chowder. I'm a very picky eater, but I couldn't find anything wrong with all we were served. The prawns where delicious, not over battered, and had an excellently flavored sauce - with a little sweetness and a little spiciness. It was served with rice and a mixed greens salad (with balsamic vinaigrette), both of which were perfect. Her fish taco included a generous piece of tender flaky cod, perfectly fried. It was served with chips and salsa. The clam chowder was tasty, thick and delicious with plenty of clams. Our server constantly checked on us, and was very friendly. I highly recommend this restaurant. I'm just sorry we don't live here so we could come back often.

I had the clam chowder, Caesars salad, and one of the specials, which was a boneless New York steak sourced locally , ordered medium rare. Oh, lets not forget the dirty Martini I ordered off the cuff, neglecting to read their cocktail menu, an oversight I later regretted. This was all very enjoyable: the in-house Caesars dressing practically a food group on its own with the proper amount of garlic, and the clam chowder so deliciously creamy it could give Seattle chowder a run for its money. The steak, at perfect temperature, was very juicy and tasty indeed. I regretted not studying their cocktail list before ordering my go-to Martini. It is extremely sophisticated; I have never seen its equal; and I would have loved to try one or two of these cocktails had I not reached my limits that evening. I loved the decor, an old school set back into the old west, and the dim atmosphere. Service was very attentive and top notch. When in Pendleton, do yourself a favor and spend some time at Virgil's; I don't think you will regret it.
