The quality is superb (no doubt abetted by the fact that the store is almost always busy - everything's fresh.) The meat display is literally forty feet long. The selection is astounding. We're still discovering new things. And for all of this excellence, the cost is very reasonable. Excellent smoked Bratwurst cost $3.99 a pound on a recent visit. Lean hickory smoked bacon (de luxe, this is what Peter Luger's in Brooklyn NY serves for the thick bacon appetizer) was $4.99. Lean, pink Black Forest Ham was only $7.99 - this stuff put "Honey Baked Ham" to shame and is cheap enough to get a pound for sandwiches and then a pound sliced 1/4" for breakfast plates (or scalloped potatoes). Beside charcuterie, I buy coarsely ground fresh pork here, to make sausage patties with (and for meat sauce). There is a refrigerator full of pierogies of all kind. Refrigerated cases contain specialty European dairy products, herring, and frozen items. There's a bakery cabinet featuring superb high quality Euro-style breads and rolls - and Polish paczi (sp?) As in all serious food markets, they offer a great variety of spices, seeds and other dry goods for the kitchen. There's a huge selection of seasoning amalgams and sauce mixes, too. There's a great selection of pickles in jars, including some rather exotic pickled combinations. Candy and cookies fill fully two aisles of the spacious store. Go here because my words and pictures cannot suffice to describe the experience. Go on a weekday to avoid crowds - it's that popular! Did I mention it was a superb value?! So go here, even if you don't like Polish food.

When we politely pointed out the discrepancies, instead of acknowledging the error and reviewing the receipt carefully, the staff insisted that certain items had not been charged when they actually had been. To make matters worse, after we left the store, employees came out to our car and took back items that had already been paid for. The entire situation was handled in a very unprofessional and confrontational manner. A simple review of the receipt would have resolved the issue, but instead we were treated as though we had done something wrong. Customer service and accountability are important, and unfortunately this experience showed neither. I would not recommend shopping here based on how this situation was handled.

The quality is consistently excellent, but what really sets them apart is that they actually have real butchers behind the counter who know their craft and are happy to help you find -- or cut -- exactly what you're looking for. Case in point: this weekend my youngest son decided he wanted picanha for dinner. Not exactly the most common suburban grocery store request. I walked up to the counter fully prepared for the usual "we might be able to order that for next week" conversation... and within moments they had it cut and ready for me. Boom. Dinner plans saved. Their meat case and selection are honestly elite. Beautiful cuts, great variety, and the kind of quality that makes you want to cook something ambitious. I'll also admit that in some of my past reviews I've had a little "constructive feedback" for other departments in the store. Let's just say I'm slowly making my amends. But the butcher shop? They've been consistently fantastic. Great service. Great product. Real expertise. We're lucky to have a place like this in town.

They have butchers who can cut the meats as you prefer, where in too-many chain groceries lots of the choices have already been sliced up. They have a nice selection of prepared sandwiches, and the aisles are stocked with just about everything you'd find at your local Stop and Shop, although their aisles are much close together. Prices? Not too different from a larger store, higher for some of the meat, but you're getting better cuts here, in our opinion. In sum, not for everybody maybe, but it's a well-run local shop and we like their offerings.
