Fresh hot Mexican food! Also, this is a GreenHills original! It's been there for years!

Ordered to go. Had the burrito asada as usual. It was tasty. I don't usually give out 5 stars but the food at this place was good!

As a Texas native/Nashville transplant, I'm a little picky about my Tex-Mex and Mexican food. Maybe more than a little picky? I was really underwhelmed by El Palenque's food, drinks, and value. We started the evening with their chips and salsa. The salsa tasted like Pace straight out of the jar, so I pushed that away pretty quickly. For my entree, I got the chicken taquitos, because it's usually something that is neither great nor bad. These chicken taquitos were among the worst I've had - they were way too thick, so the wet filling was making the taquito shell soggy. They were tearing from the soggy shell and the weight of the overstuffed taquito, so I ate them with a fork and knife, because they just couldn't hold up. We ordered a pitcher of their "Texas margarita" on the rocks, which was about $35. (There is a cheaper Margarita, but my friend told me that that kind is made from a margarita blend rather than from lime juice and fresh ingredients.) It was not a memorable pitcher. The meal was also a lot pricier than if we'd eaten much better Mexican food on Nolensville Road. So, thanks Green Hills, but you keep yours, and I'll continuing getting authentic, great value Mexican food on Nolensville Road.

I had no idea this place existed until some friends suggested it for dinner. I generally try to avoid Green Hills like the plague during the holidays, but El Palenque was easy to get in/out of without facing the crowds. I went with my Tex-Mex go-to: the chicken fajita quesadilla. I've been looking for one of these that's similar to the style I grew up with in Memphis, and I finally found it! The flour tortilla is stuffed with grilled chicken, gooey cheese and a generous portion of green peppers and onions (I wasn't thrilled about the $2 surcharge for those, but I have to say it was worth it). The chips and salsa were relatively standard as was the queso. Considering how good my entree was, the precursor didn't need to be groundbreaking. The service was pretty good - fast and friendly (for the most part). Whenever I'm in the Green Hills area and in search of dependable Mexican food, I'm definitely going to El Palenque.

Folks...listen. You will always have the naysayers when it comes to restaurants or life. El Palenque is a crown jewel of Nashville. Wait staff works their tails off to meet your needs. Food is delicious. I'm a big fan of their "Chicken Soup" that is so delightful to eat. Check it out...

The food was pretty tasty. Service was okay. A little pricey for the amount/quality of food that you receive.

My fiancee and dad got the birria tacos they did a pretty good job. I got the skirt steak i believe and it was ok. Tender but not too flavorful. Tasted more just like beef. I believe its marinated but i didnt really get hints of any spices. Again, I'm not saying it was terrible by any means. Just left something to be desired. I don't think I've ever had a restaurant ask that before! He was also super attentive and kept our waters refilled so quickly throughout the meal. One thing we really liked was the atmosphere. We loved all the fun live music spots around Nashville too, but this was a nice change of pace if you're looking for more of a chill, relaxed vibe where you can easily enjoy conversation during dinner. We both ordered the asada tacos and they were SO delicious, exactly what we needed. The rice on the side tasted incredibly fresh too, and the tomato and corn mixed into it were the perfect addition. You could tell everything was made with care. The staff was constantly cleaning tables quickly after guests left, and overall the service was just amazing from start to finish. I have to admit, I was pleasantly surprised. The guacamole and chips were the standout of the meal. The guacamole was incredibly fresh, packed with flavor, and served alongside warm, freshly made tortilla chips that were hard to stop eating. We also ordered the esquites, since I'm a huge fan of authentic elote preparado. The flavors were delicious and well-balanced. My only suggestion would be to serve the esquites warm, I promise it truly takes the dish to another level. As for the tacos, the presentation was beautiful. The Al Pastor tacos looked fantastic, but they leaned a little too sweet for my taste and were missing some of the bold, smoky flavors I associate with traditional Al Pastor, like guajillo chiles, oregano, and other aromatic spices. On the other hand, the chicken tacos were excellent. They were juicy, well-seasoned, and flavorful enough to shine without needing much from the toppings. To top it all off, our server was friendly, attentive, and helped make the entire experience enjoyable. Overall, Bakersfield exceeded my expectations. While it may not replace the authentic taco shops of the Southwest, it's definitely a solid choice in Nashville, especially if you're craving flavorful Mexican-inspired food before a night out.
