Absolutely amazing place to enjoy terrific cuisine and a breathtaking view. We had dinner here on the 4th of July and were so grateful to Victor and the staff for our amazing family experience. The food was 10/10 well balanced texture, color, and hits every part of the palette. We had the carnitas tuna, jicama tacos, seafood platter and my daughters enjoyed the grilled fish. We had to wave him down and they pretty much ignored us We ordered the Cesar salad, and he said they have to make it in the cocina. Maybe that was red flag they were out of some ingredient and didn't want us to notice during their normal,table side presentation.... Because it was not very good. It was watery! And I had to add salt and pepper to make it edible. Bleach The steak with green Pepper sauce also had zero flavor. We have been going here for many years. This year (Jan.18,2023)we ordered the seafood platter and the lobster was rubbery and almost impossible to get out of the shell We were a party 3 and when our bill came they tried to bill us for 4 salads (we ordered only 2) , billed us for 2 soups ( we ordered only 1) and for 2 coca colas ( we ordered 1) This was over 600 pesos of additional charges. We brought it to their attention and they removed the additional items. This is truly PV's hidden treasure. And it is hidden: high, high up on a steep hill. We eat there every time we visit, and at least a couple of times the Uber driver didn't know how to find the place. But it's worth the trouble. The food is delicious, the drinks are perfection, the service is excellent, and the VIEW! Incomparable. The city, bay, and ocean are spread out below the terrace. A retractable roof opens up the sky as well. We always save Gonzalez for our last night in Puerto Vallarta, and it never disappoints. If you're in PV and looking for an extraordinary dinner look no further. Take a taxi or Uber, you can't walk it unless you're a mountain climber already. You won't be sorry. read more

If there is one place not to miss when in PV, this is the place. The food is great, the drinks are great, the entertainment is great, service was great and the view SPECTACULAR. You must take a taxi hear unless you have climbed Mt. Everest as this sits atop the hills up high. A quick taxi ride gets you to the top. Upon arriving we were greeted by two young children, probably ages 7 and 10. They were so cute, asking us if we had a reservation and then escorting us inside. Love the work ethic! We first had a Mai Tai and a Tamarind Margarita. Most people don't know about the Tamarind Margarita in Mexico but if you can get one try it. They are not all the same and this one was good. We had several salads for starters and they were good with fresh orange and green peppers carrots, and tomato. Simple but fresh and a nice start. For the Maine course my wife and I split the Seafood Platter for two and it was excellent (except the calamari was a little chewy, not the best. However, that was a tiny piece of the entire Platter. The Platter contain two of everything large, including lobster tails, huge prawns, bay scallops (Small cup), fish filet, whole mini crab, mussels, and lobster roll, as well as a fried scallop and cheese ball. We were full at the end for sure. They had a 3 piece band with two guitars and a pan flute and recorder player and they were excellent. Not too loud and worth paying a few bucks to play at your table. Always tip musicians and if they offer to play they do expect a tip. Well worth it. After dinner we had the Mexican Coffee which is really after dinner entertainment with a drink ending. Our server was great pouring just the right amount of Tequilla and Other ingredients in the preparation trays the giving us a nice liquid fire show. If you have never seen this, do it. The Coffee was outstanding and I have had these probably 30 times in Mexico. This one was exceptionally good. ***IMPORTANT*** You must tip cash here. They will not put it on the credit card so make sure you bring Pesos. For what we had it was about 600 Peso so if you are 3 or more have at least 1000 pesos to make sure you are covered on the tip. As we exited the restaurant they had already arrange for a cab before we finished dinner and the two boys took the ladies and offered their arms to escort them to the taxi. The older boy opened the door and while the little one had my daughter his cell phone rang ( a bit young for a cell but hey maybe he was the boss!). He walked away and was chatting and I told him to come back over in Spanish. I gave them both a nice tip and they were so appreciative. The older one in Spanish said "you don't walk away!", it was really funny! Impressive two well dressed young kids are part of the atmosphere and we thought it was great. They were so polite and spoke perfect English (although I only spoke Spanish to them). A great evening by all. 5 stars The song for this review is Bing Crosby's "Red Sails In The Sunset" as I watched the local Pirate Ship sailing across the bay during the sunset from our table. read more

We were in search of a hidden gem that could capture the romance of Old Vallarta and we found it! A short 10 minute walk from the beach and we were on top of the world. Unobstructed views of the entire bay at sunset was unmatched. Our server Victor made some wonderful suggestions and also showed us the surf and turf specials before ordering. Wow what a place! I loved the setting-when the taxi dropped us off and we looked up the hill I knew once we walked the flight of stairs we would not be disappointed. Appetizers: jicama shrimp tacos (jicama wrap instead of tortilla, nice and light, somewhat forgettable), tortilla soup (delicious, one of the highlights for me), seafood salad (this was way more seafood than salad, like a massive plate of ceviche, wish it had a bit more acid, would def rec if you're hungry) Mains: poblano shrimp (large shrimp cooked perfectly, creamy sauce was very tasty but a tad oversalted), Palomar beef filet (rich mushroom sauce, also very tasty and also a bit oversalted, cooked perfectly, a lean yet tender cut at medium rare) Dessert: you have to get the banana vanilla ice cream flambe, the show alone is worth it! We have been to El Palomar 3 times in the past 2 weeks. It's that good! The restaurant is set in a large historic colonial home up in the hills of Alta Vista. It is perfectly located to see amazing sunset views over Banderas Bay. Ask Victor, the host, for a table on the lower terrace by the pool. Our appetizers (tortilla soup, the Palomar salad and the Hibiscus salad) were very good as was the fresh grilled mahi-mahi entree. Don't miss their signature dessert: bananas foster with table side preparation complete with flaming brandy. Their website reservation system was not working and they don't  use OpenTable.com, so we went over and made the reservations in person. Of course you can always call in your reservation by phone - - ask for Victor. If you go by taxi and the driver says the restaurant is closed, don't believe him. It's a common scam in PV to take you to some other restaurant, where the driver gets a kick-back. read more

Had high expectations, based upon recommendation of our resort. What a flop. Food was slow and ho-hum when it came, the service tepid. Caesar, marketed as "table side" ended up being 3 leaves of romaine with some stale croutons scattered across it. I never did see the table it was prepared by. Waited forever for the salad, then couldn't finish it because the main came halfway through. We were a party of two, and tip generously. Start at 30% and usually go up. 8% on this one, a gift in my mind only because I didn't want to be a jerk. They do not take Amex (something nobody told us). Excellent bar, they made a specialty drink (lemon drop) by request. Wine menu is limited but selections were reasonable and tasty. Service was very attentive, which is unusual for most laid back Mexican restaurants. What keeps this place from five stars is the food quality/quantity. We had calamari which was well prepared, but tough (aka not fresh). Shrimp cocktail, however, was great (recommended). We ordered the seafood feast and the rib eye steak. As steaks go, this was one of the better prepared, but size and cut was average (nothing special). Lobster on the seafood platter was pretty small as was the crab. The scallops were the highlight (very fresh), so if/when I go back that would be what I would order. Overall a good experience and because it's a bit out of the way, not crazy busy like other places were during new years. read more

What do you do when it's your last night in Mexico and you still have a bunch of pesos to spend? Of course you find the most baller restaurant to spend all your money! Of course we each got an alcoholic drink, appetizers, ceviche to share, seafood entree, added tip, and it was still only about $20USD. You get to the top, it is truly a beautiful view. But the downside? You have to walk to the top of this hill. My friends and are not ninja warriors, but we are pretty active and we broke a sweat and I wanted to stop for a quick break. You also get to the top and you realize they had a trolley that you could have called to have you picked up. You get to the top and in the restaurant, and there is this little boy reaching out his hand to walk you down the stairs. I was a little weirded out by that and just said hello, but some of my friends took his hand (we all came in separate times cause we were taking pictures of the view). The waiters are also very attentive and very helpful. We sat in the patio so we can see the sunset. Great weather and the patio balcony actually have electrical moving awnings, so when it was setting, they actually closed up! Pretty crazy. The sunset kind of hits your face depending on where you are sitting though. So make sure to bring sunglasses if you are facing the sun. It's kind of hard to avoid the direct sunlight. You get there and you're thirsty and sweating, You order drinks! There is no drink menu, but they have a full bar. I think I ended up with a pineapple margarita and my friends all got different drinks so they have a lot of options. Appetizer - we ordered the ceasar salad for 2. I kept hearing it's really good. Why is a caesar salad so good? They make the dressing for you right there with a cart. You see the waiter making you a dressing. You would never get that anywhere else. The bad part? You get about 8 pieces of lettuce for two people. I'm not even joking or exaggerating. I have a photo and I uploaded it. You get 4 pieces of lettuce each. I thought they were kidding, and my friends had to refrain from laughing. It's a cool concept but can you add more vegetables?! I got a fish dish. The food is very good. The rice, grilled veggies. All very delicious. I loved the grilled veggies. Very flavorful. The rice had raisins in it so it was very sweet. We were so full from the bread (free - they gave us some bread), 2 appetizers, and mains that we barely finished our food. At the end, the waiter gave us a "coupon" for free appetizer or round of drinks the next time we come back. He told us to write a review on trip adviser too. The restaurant has a 5-star view, so if you are interested in seeing an incredible sunset then this is a fantastic restaurant. The food is pricey and average. It was fun to order the Cesar salad and watch them prepare it in front of us. What the restaurant lacks in food quality, it makes up for in romantic atmosphere and view. The "best seat in the house" is a two-top near the corner of the railing where you have an amazing view of the city and also the sunset over the ocean. However, as soon as the sun sets, there are bats that live in the tree near the seats so heed caution. Thankfully, we were seated at a great spot two tables away from this. My family and I have been coming here for many years. The view is great, as everyone says. The food has been excellent a majority of our visits, but sometimes (including this time), a meal is subpar. My dad got the filet with a lobster tail, and a majority of his filet was inedible as most of it was fat/gristle and his lobster tail was very over salted. Totally worth the trip to go on top of the mountain. Beautiful sunset with city view. They have many different view every minutes of the evening through the night. Food: Food was ok. Small portions. But we're fine with it because you pay for the view. Service: Staff kept coming to our table to make sure everything is ok no matter how busy they were. And one of the staff offered us to take a pictures of us soon after we got to the table. Good service! View: There's actually only one table have sunset view which we were able to seated luckily.
