Finally! Our first trip to Mexico and this is where we found the best margarita after so many (surprisingly) disappointments. But it's not just about the margarita. We stopped here the first time for just a margarita and guac and we were satisfied. We stopped a few nights later for dinner and were beyond satisfied. We shared the Mexican Plate which had a stuffed poblano (chili relleno), a hard shell taco, chicken enchilada, quesadilla with cheese, rice, and guac. The stuffed poblano was great! It still had a little crispiness despite being covered in sauce. This is how it should be! Nailed it! The rest was simply delish. We also had a side salad with a very tasty pesto dressing. That was definitely a bonus to our meal. The service was friendly on both visits. They accept only cash. It's among many good quality restaurants that line the beach in Puerto Vallarta. read more

Let's sit on the beach and dig your feet in the sand. We ordered Cafe de Olla. What is that might you ask? That's coffee with piloncillo (Mexican brown sugar) and cinnamon sticks. Oh I was in heaven as people often say. Just the right amount of sweetness. It was heavenly. Service was great. Everyone was pleasant and helpful. Just wanted a drink after our walk (mid weekday).... Cuates y Cuetes was cash only. On the beach side, perfect view and open setting. Stayed inside restaurant rather on the beach though. All staff, including the hostess were friendly and accommodating. Our server, on the other, did not give the same vibe. He was either too tired to offer his pleasantries or maybe he didn't like the fact that we only order a drink. Either case, he has no business being a server. Overall, the place looked busy, and relaxing. I may try their food next time. read more

Had a lovely and lively lunch here during a hot and sunny afternoon. The portions are huge and the beer cold. Our service was great and the food was served pretty quickly considering the place was packed. They have both indoor and outdoor beach seating, and the indoor space was comfortable and though it didn't have ACs, they do have fans running. Our first meal in Puerto Vallarta and it did not disappoint. Didn't want anything too heavy as it was lunch time and we had dinner plans later. I remember walking by a couple months ago when we visited prior. The staff all were welcoming. It is along the main walkway and waterfront of the beach so it's a good tourist trap. Except they didn't seemed to pushy trying to get you to come in. Price wise, it was ok. Gotta cater to the tourist so it was a bit higher than you would find at the restaurant along town but affordable. Started off with a couple bottles of beer. A table with a view was much needed as you're here for the beach. Of course chips and salsa was brought out to start. Perfect combo with the beer. We just shared some starters just to get us through the day. The mixed ceviche with fish and shrimp was great. Portion wise it was pretty big and perfect for sharing. Always served with chips and crackers. Also the cheese fondue which is basically cheese dip that we also went with the one that had shrimp. Not your traditional melted cheese in a pot with bread for dipping. It was still good with loads of chunks of shrimp. And topping it off with some chicken tacos. Street tacos size and come with three which was perfect. With everything added, cilantro and onion. Salsa that was brought out early was party blend for the tacos. Food was good, nice table with a view. Staff all were nice and sweet. Beer was perfect to wash everything down. What a fun play with great music in the evening and delicious food from morning to night. The service was warm, fun, and pure PV vibe. This is the place for veggie-packed fajitas. Everything else, from margaritas to guacamole to refried beans, was satisfying and tasty. I was walking on the beach and decided to have dinner here. The restaurant was completely open . You could eat at the restaurant or the have tables on the sand with umbrellas. I ordered two ceviche tostadas and my son ordered a quesadilla din. I ordered bottled water and a sprite. We also got salsa and chips. The service is very fast and attentive here. The place is very relaxing because you're looking at the water and a pier. The ceviche was pretty good and they had good hot sauce. Portions were generous. My son's plate came with rice and beans. We ordered three different meals from the menu and we all were satisfied with the food and the prices were reasonable. It's an unassuming place with a beach location that's nice and convenient for watching the sunset. It was the second time this week we ate there and I'm sorry to say that though we thought it deserved a second chance, both times the service was unpleasant. It wasn't busy either time at the restaurant but the host and waiters had poor attitudes, as if they don't like their jobs or maybe just don't like clients as if we were a bother and in addition, they seemed rather machistas. That was my gentleman friend's comment when he noticed that twice the waiter ignored me when I asked for another drink and for the bill, since I was the one who'd invited my friends and I was paying for our meal. The waiter was impatient and paid no attention to me until my friend told him I wanted to speak with him. Seriously, the waiters need to be more attentive to customers, make us feel welcome and appreciated since in the end, without customers there's be no work. Manny was our server and he was great. We enjoyed him! We only had chips and salsa but it was very good. Salsa is somewhat spice though. Drinks were probably some of the best I've ever had. Ugh. Where to begin. If you're coming for sunset drinks, ok, the location is pretty great... But for food? We came at 7 with a group of 12. They made room on the beach for us by putting tables together. But even with sporadic diners coming in and it not seeming too busy, our food took quiet awhile. And the quality of the food? I think some of the dishes sauces were literally ketchup. The shrimp dishes we got were decent, but the other dishes were mediocre at best. The real kicker was the waiter coming back to me demanding more tip. 10% isn't enough for the whole staff, he said. Really? Talk about a tourist trap. I got him another 300 pesos which made the tip about 17%, and left. Buddy, I come from a tourist town, and nobody goes back up to the diners afterwards to complain about a tip. Anyone recommending this place for food is out of their minds. I'd rather overpay in a tourist trap in any of the other restaurants on the beach just a little south. The one positive was the band playing lovely jazz and a singer. So that merits two stars. read more

This place was recommended by a local person. The place is an open air restaurant by the beachfront. We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of our food. Two ordered enchiladas and two of us ordered a shrimp dish (garlic shrimps and coconut shrimp). The shrimps tasted sooo good and even the veggies were very tasty. We also had margaritas and sangria. Beautiful location right on the beach. Friendly staff that will try to accommodate you with english if you don't speak Spanish. They have a very large menu from traditional Mexican to burgers. The only downside to this place is that while you are seated at the restaurant vendors will walk up and hassle you to buy stuff while you are eating... This place sits right on the boardwalk so people are walking by at all times. I get that they are hustling their goods, but to have to tell someone "No, Im okay thank you" every 5 seconds is kinda annoying! read more

Let me start by saying Cuates y Cuetes have a webcam you're able to see the view from their restaurant. The beach is something I'll never get tired of. Lately it's been down but worth checking out. They do have live entertainment every night and the servers are extremely nice. You never feel rushed when trying to decide what to order. We ordered ceviche tostadas, fish tacos, coconut shrimp, and buttery garlic shrimp. Everything. Was delicious and tasted very fresh. Our pina coladas were very tasty. The ambiance is fabulous you can stay easily for an hour or so just to listen to the music and waves of the beach. It didn't take long for our food to get served. My Son and Husband loved it. This is a staple for us. When we are in Puerto Vallarta we make this a must stop. A little relaxed beach restaurant that sits right on the water and when the sea breeze flows from the water it's paradise. The breakfast menu has everything one would expect in Mexico and is always made just right. Mimosas are made with fresh squeezed orange juice and the waiters that serve the food are the best. They have decent food and a very wide range of drinks, but the real appeal is the atmosphere/ambience. They host musicians for all sorts of events / festivals, and we were here during their jazz festival. They also let me smoke a cigar on the beach after sundown (not sure if that's normal) while enjoying a mezcal and jugo, so that was pretty much perfection. Cuates y Cuetes is the perfect beachside restaurant, fantastic food, wonderful service, a fun beach ambiance, topped of with great live music! After living here for several months it's quite clear that most beachside restaurants are basically a total ripoff and not anything special, that being said we really wanted to have a beautiful sunset dinner so we decided to try out Cuates y Cuetes based on better reviews, so so so happy we did! The prices are extremely fair for both food and drinks, and the service was just excellent. The drink situation is cool, you can order the tequila of your choice and for 10 pesos more they will make it into a margarita for you! They were nice strong pours too, for 130 pesos, compared to over 200 for most places for a good drink that was an awesome surprise. We ordered the shrimp fajitas to share and a couple of beers, the server didn't try to push us into ordering more food and was just extremely kind throughout the whole meal. The fajitas arrived in about 15 minutes, a beautiful plate filled with perfectly cooked large shrimp, yummy beans, rice and a generous portion of fresh guacamole, hot and fresh flour tortillas (I asked for flour) and was absolutely delicious. My wife and I loved them, the salsas were also fresh and we made a solid 4 large tacos out of the dish. Really really enjoyed the fajitas! It was perfect, and the sunset in addition to the live music just made it a beautiful night to remember. Would absolutely recommend this beachside restaurant, what a wonderful experience! read more

We dined at Cuates y Cuetes twice during our trip, once for breakfast and once for dinner. The breakfast was pretty decent! Best fresh OJ in PV for us. The cuetas y cuetes omelette was good and served with black beans and salsas. The french toast was very fluffy. The dinner was much tastier: we ordered a beef burrito and enchiladas suizas. Right on beach, so it's overpriced and you put up with all the vendors trying to sell you stuff and 2 different mariachi bands on the beach competing with the music of the restaurant. My wife and I ordered food she got a quesadilla and I got three tacos and three enchiladas. My wife quesadilla wasn't that great she only took two bites no flavor other than a bad after taste. Now for my three tacos with asada was very good not only it looked delicious it tasted delicious lots of flavor with the salsa and guacamole it was mouth waters wow sensation. Let's cover the basics first: food here was great. We had tacos marlin, which were delicious. We were bombarded by peddlers our entire lunch, which was annoying while trying to chat and eat. The service was fine and prices were decent. The part that wasn't so great was being chased by our server, demanding more money on top of our USD and Pesos payment, which was more than enough to cover the bill and tip. Okay hands down the best Mexican seafood I tried in Vallarta. We ordered different foods to try an array of flavors. We started with the huachinango fish, chicharron style, which was filleted and fried serves with rice and beans. The best friend fish that smelled amazing. We also tried Cazuela de mariscos which is a seafood soup. The flavor was 100% amazing although I was slightly disappointed because it was missing the crab. Also a shrimp tostada Sms flavor was spot on. We ordered an Average of 7 plates and about 6 drinks for about $100 USD.
