Husband and I had the taco plate and the nachos- both had amazing flavor! The only thing is, I feel like the nacho chips got soggy a bit too quickly. I just ended up eating with a fork. For dessert we tried the vegan cheesecake - it was not the best to me but husband really liked it. We also had what appeared to be ginger snap cookies but they fell apart and were not very good. El Palote Panadería is honestly one of the best vegan Mexican restaurants I've ever tried. The few dishes I got were full of flavor and really well made--it genuinely caught me off guard in the best way. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and the fact that it's family-owned made the experience feel even more special. It's cozy, authentic, and you can tell they put a lot of care into everything. Even the service stood out. Their daughter was the one who took our order, and she did a really great job, it just added to how comfortable and genuine the whole place felt. It feels like a hidden gem in Dallas. It deserves way more attention, and I'll definitely be coming back to try more dishes! read more

Visiting from Nebraska.. and discovered this little GEM! Great selection of 100% Vegan EVERYTHING!! I ordered the tacos with chefs choice of different flavors.. all were amazing! Rice and beans were also delicious.. wish I would have had more time.. would have ordered more.. but I'll be back! Great setting with outdoor seating too! When you search Vegan around the area this by far is the only legit place you can find! The place is pretty cool and nicely laid out. It wasn't the nicest place but it was just a relaxing place to go after walking and not touching a drop of food at the Texas State Fair! I wasn't sure what to get and the lady working the counter was really cool and recommended the Taco Plate and I can get 3 types of tacos.... She recommended getting them with grilled and raw onions so I did.... I got the brisket, al pastor and carnitas tacos....I'll be honest they all tasted pretty good even though I tried to distinguish the tastes and textures I honestly can't remember but overall I loved the food and texture of the tacos....I think they all use the same type of soy base just with different flavors and ways to prepare the "meats". This place is the real deal; not just in the sense that it's really all vegan, but it also has the small immigrant family vibe that one might find for any non-vegan Mexican taco shop in Texas. Their menu was wide in some sense; what was odd for me is that pretty much everything came with one of their fake meats, which appear to be differently spiced soy-based items that they make in house. Which is to say, they didn't actually offer any veggie tacos at a vegan Mexican restaurant, which is a little strange for me, though perhaps authentic as many other shops only have tacos with meat in them. The platter allowed me to try four different fake meats, which was a strange situation to be in since as an actual vegetarian I have no idea what the Spanish words for various meat products mean, so I even with some guidance I was just guessing. The spicy one was pretty good, some of the others were a bit tough in texture or had some odd flavor notes which might have been meant to emulate meat but which didn't quite land for me. The quality of the taco platter was otherwise high, with double layered tortillas, spiced rice and beans, and nice fresh taco fixins. I barely needed the salsas they gave me. A topo chico washed things down. Given that the place labels itself as a panaderia, I perused the baked goods, which again appeared very authentic. However, they also seemed rather carb-heavy, so I selected a fascinating brown bread topped with oats and filled with coconut and raisins. It was a rich flavor and totally lived up to the "delicioso" name. The parking lot is an easy turnoff to miss, but I would suggest making the drive as this place is a rare find. read more

My favorite restaurant if DFW for Mexican food and for vegan eats. EVERY single one of the proteins is the most delicious thing that I have every eaten. I usually order a taco plate so that I can get the crispy chicharrones and the incredible rice and beans. The BBQ sandwich is so good too and on the weekend they have breakfast foods along with vegan fried chicken. The one thing I am not a fan of is the queso and the eggs, just not my favorite but your milage may vary. What sets this place apart from any other is the complete pan dulce bakery. They have absolutely anything you could dream of made with no dairy or animal products. The restaurant is in an older part of Dallas, far east but the drive is worth it everytime. There is usually plenty of seating, but you can also order anything to go online. They even have the option of taking the different proteins home frozen and then making your own. I would bring any vegan here, I think it is the best that Dallas has to offer. read more

Pretty good vegan al pastor tacos. I got the 4 taco plate with rice and beans for $12. You can taste the effort they put into the soy tacos, def better then a lot of regular taquerias out there. I do not know the nutrition of each individual taco, but you can def order a ton! A la carte ends up being ~3 a taco. where as taco plate is the same price if you buy 4 tacos but with the rice and beans with it. Rice was on the wet too fresh side of things, kinda like the boxed flavored rice you get from wal mart. Beans were fairly good, esp with no lard. I do not recommend the vegan hortchata for $5. pretty powdery. Sodas are all $4 fyi. the pan dulce is around $3.9 for a pretty big one which I would say is fair, but pan dulce is just fine for myself. Would not go back unless I was in the area. read more

The food here is delicious and doesn't fell like you're eating vegan. Tex/Mex is a tough thing to eat out for vegetarians and this is a great option. There are a lot of menu options but the vegan tamales are delicious. I buy them by the dozen and freeze them for an easy reheat meal. It's cute and clean inside. As a pescatarian, it is hard to find good Mexican food. I am lucky to have found this place. I had the brisket burrito plate and it was good! I enjoyed every bite of it. I also got the cheese and strawberry pastry and it was nice and moist! I also got the cinnamon roll. It took a while for me to like the texture of the cinnamon roll since it wasn't as moist as the other pastry, but I came to like it because once I got home, I toasted it and spread some butter on it, and it tasted wonderful! After waiting over a year to be in the neighborhood, I finally got to go...and it did not disappoint! On site parking is a bonus. The bathroom was clean. Plenty of seating for the space. Good service. The tacos were delicious. We tried 4 different kinds of protein, all tasty. The flautas were perfectly crispy. I had low expectations for the rice and beans because at other places they're bland like an afterthought, but both were very good here! We were stuffed by the time we left but made sure to take some frozen asada to go, along with a variety of sweet breads of course. Love El Palote Panaderia. I've been going for the last few years since moving to the East Dallas neighborhood and I really enjoy every time I visit. There's a great mix of Tex-Mex vegan options and I loved their tacos, enchiladas and loaded nachos along with their amazing desserts. There are many options for all tastebuds and the staff are always super helpful to help guide you in your selection. It's hard to believe it's all vegan because everything tastes just as good, if not better than non-vegan Tex Mex restaurant food. I rarely leave reviews. If I do leave a review, it's because a restaurant has deeply deeply affected me and my life. These are the most amazing vegan tacos. On the days they are closed, I dream about them and literally salivate when I think about them. My favorite "meat" is the chicharron crispy. I can't even explain how amazing they are. I love the green sauce that is served with it. Typically I leave the beans and rice when I eat Mexican. But here, I eat the whole plate. The flavor, the garlicky rice and beans, it's indescribable. Run, don't walk, to this gem. The only thing you will regret about visiting here is you won't be able to stop. It's become an addiction for me. But, truly, a healthy addiction. SUPER DISAPPOINTING! I'm honestly surprised why this place has such high ratings, which was the reason for my visit. I ordered the Al Pastor and Chicharron Crispy Tacos, a Al Pastor Burrito, Loaded Fries, and a sweet roll pastry. The taco meat was not flavorful and had a strange flavor, for that reason I did not finish my meal. The Al Pastor Burrito was also not enjoyable. If you're truly looking for delicious Mexican food and tacos, try out Bentley's Love or Mariachi's Dine In. They're both located in Fort Worth and I always return for their flavorful vegan food. El Palote Panaderia gives a bad reputation on vegan food, trust me there is so much better. The only two things I ordered that I somewhat I enjoyed were the loaded fries and the sweet roll pastry. Considering the prices of the food, the fact you have to pay for water, and how I barely touched my food, I would not recommend anyone to come here at all. read more

Delicious vegan tacos - funny thing, I went to get some Mexican food with some friends last week before coming here and sadly they didn't have any vegan tacos, but all my friends ordered tacos so I felt empty. So, the next week I was glad that I was leaving Lubbock to visit Dallas to try these vegan tacos. Ridiculously yummy and packed with flavor out of this world. I took my non-vegan (best friend) and he was amazed at how good the food was, let alone that it was vegan. He said, "that he wished he had more". The line was out the door, but I wish the prices were as good as the tacos. Like most vegan restaurants, this place is expensive. We ordered two taco plates priced at $10.50, two horchatas (since the lady at the counter claimed they didn't have any water), and two conchas (which I wanted two vanillas, but the lady claimed she only had a chocolate and a vanilla). The chocolate concha was nasty, but the vanilla was tasty, but hella dry. The lady at the counter wasn't friendly, she had a nonchalant attitude. I probably won't be back since I found a cheaper vegan tacos place in Dallas close to Downtown. read more

I really don't want to write this review. But, here we are. El Palote was one of my favorite places when I moved to Dallas 3 years ago (see my old review on google) but this was NOT it. Al pastor is SWEET! Traditionally, it's cooked with pineapple juice/pineapple. Sooo, I got the Nachos - topped with Al pastor. It was all one note in flavor. The cheese (as someone else stated, "a bland oily gravy", the beans (which tasted different than the beans given in the taco plate I got) the sour cream (just.. no), all bland. No flavor. The al pastor had a weird flavor, weirder after taste. It was sour, and it didn't even resemble the usual cut of al pastor - which is possible with homemade soy curls. See the photos. I couldn't even finish the nachos. I threw them away. I got 2 carnitas tacos. More flavor in that particular faux meat - but the tortillas had an after taste. I will say - I should be able to eat the taco WITHOUT the sauce & it still taste good. That was not the case. Finally, I got the new Birria Tacos. Best thing out of everything I ordered. No.. actually the damn beans & rice AND the consome for the tacos were the best thing. I drove 40 minutes. Super disappointing after such stellar experiences. I have brought so many people to this restaurant, vegans & non, alike. It's sad because I WAS extremely excited to find out they were opening a new location - but if this is what they will be serving - unfortunately, after this visit, I will not be back. ---- Review from 3 years ago. Service: 1/5 Food: 4/5 I'm giving so few stars because I had a horrible experience, and I'm only giving more than 1 star because the food was undeniably good. I came during COVID so I was VERY understanding of time, but it became unbearable. I called my order in and they told me 15-20 minutes. I arrived at the 20min mark and waiting an additional 20min. I tried to ask the worker who was handing out the food how long it would take and he just kept saying "I don't know" and "can you get back in the car". I decided to get back in the car and wait an additional 20min. At this point it is 40min after I was expecting my food and 1 hour since I ordered. I asked the worker delivering the food if I could cancel, since No one was answering the phone, and he said "you can but can you get back in the car". Long story short, I waited an additional hour after arriving, with LITTLE TO NO communication and false promises the one time I spoke with someone on the phone. Did they give me anything free or reimburse me at all? NO. However, I will admit the food was amazing. The tacos were beyond wonderful, the beans were second to none, and the enchiladas were very good as well. read more

Been coming here for years and we were very let down today. After spending $42.95 with a tip. I asked the young lady at the counter for some vegan sour cream because it was left off of our food. She wanted to ask the kitchen but she stopped and looked at it and said it's in there somewhere it must be blended in. Really?!? I said it's not there but whatever she smiled and said enjoy. The food was different. The beans were very watered down. Nothing tasted as good as it has in the past. But their prices are still the same. I was about to buy some sweetbread along with some other stuff, but this experience made me not want to spend more money in here so I decided to save my money and go elsewhere. I run a fast casual restaurant. General hospitality is where it starts. Not only would they have gotten a five star review from me even with the food tasting the way that it did, if they would've just put some care into their customers. The nacho cheese was like water. El Palote dies a good job of providing a good substitute to your traditional version of these dishes The green salsa...is lacking. The salsas in general were a bit bland. The queso....I would avoid at all costs. But everything else was ok. I waited a pretty long time to grab food here and the folks who run this ship and gracious and kind and funny. COVID-19 UPDATE: During the coronavirus pandemic, El Palote is open for limited hours (Friday - Sunday only) and for take-out only. They have a truly delightful and genuinely contactless method for delivery: a delivery "robot"! You order online with a credit card (https://ordering.app/elpalote/) and the RC car drives the tacos over to you. I really appreciate that El Palote isn't reopening too early, to keep the public and their employees safe. (Tip: If, like me, you have to drive 20 minutes (or more!) to get to El Palote, I recommend eating your food while it's fresh. We took ours to a nearby park with picnic tables, Pleasant Oaks.) FOOD REVIEW: El Palote serves delicious, 100% vegan Mexican food - tacos, burritos, nachos, enchiladas, and more. I've tried the BBQ sandwich (which I loved, but my guy didn't, because it's super smoky), the flauta-rito (flautas inside a burrito; I'd actually suggest just getting a regular burrito, because it winds up being really tortilla heavy), and the nacho fries (aka papas norteñas) with crispy chicharron, which were absolutely phenomenal, and simply drenched in delicious vegan queso. They also sell "meats" by the pound to go. I got a pound of al pastor and it was enough for two taco meals at home. For $12.50, that makes it a decent value. The meats are mostly seitan (vital wheat gluten) and soy based, so check first if you have allergies. read more
